Week 02 2024 who should I start thread **OFFICIALLY UNOFFICIAL** (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
This is where we ask questions and offer help.

Thank you to all the posters who come here to offer that help.

A couple notes:

I attempt to give well considered responses to all questions posted. I can't get to everything, but I'll try.

1) This only works if people participate. If you ask for help it is good form to offer help to someone else.

2) It helps if you post the matchup. e.g. Cousins vs Den or James Cook @ Mia

3) Please post important league scoring considerations (e.g. PPR, super-flex etc).

4) Please go easy on the nicknames, save that for other threads. We can't help if we don't know who you are talking about.

View this as an exercise to help focus your thoughts about teams in general. Players you own may not be involved in these WDIS questions but certainly you will own players on many of these teams. Analyzing other players will help you identify things you may have otherwise not considered.

On to week 2!!

Super-flex league, full PPR. Looks like I lost Jordan Love for a few games.

Flex 2:
David Montgomery v TBB
Justin Fields @ Denver
Jameson Williams v TBB

League two PPR, NOT super flex:

QB:
Justin Fields @ Denver
Trever Lawrence v Cleveland
Sam Darnold v SF
Caleb Williams @ Houston

Two flex spots:
Terry McLaurin v NYG
Jayden Reed v Indy
Devin Singletary @ WAS
Jaylen Wright v BUF*

*Mostert is already out but I think that only makes Wright RB3 in Miami. But if Achane sits I pretty much have to start Wright.

Caveat I don't play Super-flex. I think I go Monty by process of elimination. I don't love Fields in Denver at all, figures to be a tough defensive game. I do like Williams but i'd be surprised if the gameplan week 2 mirrored week 1. Unless of course Tampa decide to defend in the exact same way as LA did and take away ARSB and LaPorta. Which they could. I guess. But I lean Monty, he's a starter and a closer and great at the goal line and you have to figure they're going to focus on getting the ball to ARSB this week.

Monty by a hair after all that waffle.

Alright I've got a cluster here ... Choose one:
Etienne (vs CLE)
Godwin (@ DET)
Jameson Williams (vs TB)
Metcalf (@ NE)
Olave (@ DAL)

PPR. 5-point bonus for 150 rushing or receiving yards. Projection-wise I am a 60%+ favorite, and I think that matters in this case (leaning toward Etienne or Godwin due to that).

I would go Fields. His rushing total alone could beat out what Monty provides. TB secondary beat up, so I'd expect the Lions to attack in the air. But Lions players are tough to keep out of your lineup with such a high powered offense.

This one is close, I think I would go Darnold over Fields in this one.
Flex: I like McLaurin to have a bounce back game and Reed despite Love not playing. However, if Achane is out along with Mostert I would go Wright instead of Reed.

Alright I've got a cluster here ... Choose one:

Metcalf (@ NE)
Olave (@ DAL)

PPR. 5-point bonus for 150 rushing or receiving yards. Projection-wise I am a 60%+ favorite, and I think that matters in this case (leaning toward Etienne or Godwin due to that).

Slightly favor Godwin, should be a high scoring game. I still like Etienne and can see him having some success but Cleveland are tough to run on. I don't consider Metcalf (Seattle a running team looks like) or Olave (prove week 1 wasn't a fluke first). Williams is a strong consideration in what may be a shootout.

Feet to the fire, i'd go Godwin but it's tough with 3 good options for one spot.

It would be torture to have this decision every week. Williams still needs to prove he can do it consistently. Metcalf would be my next sit as Gonzalez is the real deal and if he is shadowing him, I wouldn't start him. ETN, Godwin and Olave I think are are coin flips in which I think Godwin has the safest floor of the 3, but maybe lean towards Olave if you are trying to go boom or bust.

You have seemingly great options.

I think I need to give ETN at least another week before I'm ready to even begin thinking about pulling the plug on him.

If you decide to pivot from him good luck picking the right guy. I lean Godwin but you could talk me into any of them pretty easily. Olave scares me the most because of the matchup.

ETN>Godwin>DK>Jameson>Olave

Isn't the default play almost always the QB? That's the play even if it wasn't the default play IMO.

I like Lawrence's floor but Fields has higher ceiling because of his running. Agree about wright but if Achane sits, Reed and Singletary. Giants may try to simplify game plan after week 1. And Reed and Mclaurin both have the same problem - A QB who may have difficulty getting them the ball. Honestly the second flex is a coinflip amongst all three flawed choices.

Full PPR, start 1QB/2RB/2WR/1TE/1Flex/1DST/1K

2RBs are set and forget with Hall and Pacheco
2WRs I want to fire up are Smith and Waddle
TE I have LaPorta

Flex...I can pick either:
DK (WR) (crapped out last week and another tough matchup in what could be a low scoring Defenseive slugfest)
Keon Coleman (WR)
McLaurin (WR)
Montgomery (RB) (I know traditionally you want to flex a WR in full PPR leagues, but this guy is a TD machine when the Lions get into the endzone)
I am even contemplating Isiah Likely (TE) as he is practically the WR2 on the Ravens so far)

TIA

Godwin for me here too.

PPR league:

* Jeff Wilson (vs BUF) -- Assume that Achane is INACTIVE. That would leave Wilson and J. Wright in the backfield at home against a BUF run D without Milano.

or

* J. Ford (@Jax) -- CLE offense looked like a trainwreck against DAL at home. That said, Ford got his share of touches along with a TD. Things may not get much better against the JAX D that was tough on the ground (but did give up plenty of receptions to Achane).

Which?

THanks

You have good options. Any of them could outperform the others.

I personally probably roll DK or Montgomery. DK is the most physically gifted and most likely to salvage a bad week with a big play. I don't love his QB or his matchup. And Seattle may want to be a run first team (29 designed runs to 25 pass attempts last week). DK oy had four targets last week.

Monty is all about banking on the TDs. It's a pretty good bank too.

Monty>DK>McLaurin>Likely

Wilson if Achane is inactive Ford if Achane plays.

I LOVE this thread!
Sorry,I'll calm down.

All FFPC scoring:

I need a final flex in this one:

D.Swift @ Hou.
Javonte Williams vs Pitt

And then ONE of the following:

Javonte Williams vs Pitt
C.Hubbard vs LAC

And then TWO from this motley crew:

D.Swift @ Hou
K.Shakir @ Mia
R.Doubbs vs Ind
D.Mooney @ Phi

3) You're killing me dude.

I would probably go with Swift over Javonte this week. Based on the assumption that the Bears will run more to protect Caleb and the fact that both Keenan & Odunze are dealing with lower extremitoissues.

Swift>Javonte

Javonte>Hubbard

I like Hubbard but the Panthers were too bad last week and Miles Sanders got too much run.

Not Doubs or Mooney. You knew that before you typed it.

Shakir & Swift are a toss up. I go with Shakir because the Bills offense just looks so much better than the Bears

Shakir>Swift

First, thanks for the advice last week. This week I have two scenarios in a 0.5 PPR league.

I need any 3 of the following:

RB

Mason @ MIN (if CMC is out)
Henry vs LV
Conner vs LAR
Jacobs vs IND

WR

Jefferson vs SF

Jefferson is usually a lock but against SF with Darnold I am not 100% sold on it with the other choices but it feels like I need to stay with him.
Henry seems due for a big week and the Chargers just ran all over the Raiders.
If CMC is out, Mason is a lock for me. If CMC plays, it feels like Conner as active as he was last week has a good floor.

That is the way I am leaning but if you have a different take would like to hear it.

You can call me Bro

QB:

Fields for the rushing upside

Reed even with Love out
McLaurin unless both Mostert and Achane are out. Then I would go Wright

Super-flex league, full PPR. Looks like I lost Jordan Love for a few games.

Monty/Fields. If Fields can get you 50+ rushing along with the passing, will that outscored Williams ?

Don’t really like Lawrence vs an embarrassed Cle D, pass on Caleb in his first road start also. The safe play may be Darnold here. The two flex spots, I would lean to both guys in the NY/Wash game, both have bad D’s. Wright is interesting, but it’s a Thursday night. I would consider him if Achane is out - always a possibility on short weeks.

You have to play Jefferson, he has a qb that can get him the ball. Mason is a lock also if CMC is out. Out 9f the remaining, I’m probably starting Connor. He seems to find the end zone a lot. Henry concerns me that Lamar vultures a TD, and Jacob’s could be affected by the new QB. They are all great options, but Mason is the best RB of the four this weekend.

Monty, then McLaurin. Both are great matchups, very hard to sit anyone vs the Giants, wouldn’t blame you if you flexed McLaurin.

This is a gross option but it is what it is in my 14 teamer. Full PPR and need a RB 2:

Gus Edwards against Carolina
Javonte Williams against Pittsburgh
Jeff Wilson against the Bills with Mostert out and Achane a game time decision currently
Chase Brown against the Chiefs

Thanks in advance,

Wow, I love/hate your choices.

Brown is out for me, I liked nothing about the Bengals and particularly his usage relative to Moss.

Can't trust Javonte after his usage and facing what seems an excellent Steelers defense.

So Gus v Wilson. Let's assume Achane plays, if he doesn't Wilson is the obvious choice.

Personally I think the matchup with Carolina is why Gus is a Charger. He's Monty lite. If the Chargers get a lead he's the guy that will salt away the victory.

Wilson, with Achane is somewhat similar but, IMO he has a tougher matchup by a huge margin.

Gus>Wilson*

Standard scoring non-ppr league, I'm looking for my WR3:

Pickens vs Den - will have a shutdown corner marking him who blanketed Metcalf last week
Godwin vs DET - Should hopefully be a high scoring game

I'm obviously leaning toward Godwin but every non-ppr rankings has Pickens higher.

Really? With Fields at QB?

My guess is most sites consider him to have a bigger TD chance. And he's his team's #1 WR.

Even so, I also lean Godwin.

Good options. Monty seems like the "safest" bet and I think he has enough upside.

Ford had great volume. Unfortunately he didn't do much with it. Decent option if it was PPR but I don't think that's the case here.

Obviously Wilson is tempting if Achane doesn't play but even then, he's no Achane and Buffalo is probably a tough matchup.

Monty>Ford/Wilson

Likely and I don't really feel bad if it's wrong. The Raiders did not look good last week and I think they get rolled this week. Andrews may not have to play much.

Godwin>McLaurin

Don't like Javonte against that Pitt D..
Swift probably will see the ball more because Keenan & Odunze are limited at best and they need to protect Caleb Williams. Still, without a threat of a credible passing game what can we expect from Swift.
This game feels like exactly the type of game the Chargers were thinking of when they brought in Gus.

Gus>Swift>Javonte

Likely>Pitts

Cousins looks iffy at best and this game could be ugly. I don't like counting on being on the losing end of garbage time for stats. Being on the right side of it however... I think the Ravens roll the Raiders.

Full ppr and I have to sit one of these players: Waddle, Rice, Tank Dell, or Worthy. Wish I could start all of them. What you guys think?
Comes down to Dell or Worthy for me. I can understand trying to capture most of the Chiefs passing game but what if this is the week Kelce goes off?

The problem is Worthy's upside seems tantalizing.

I probably bench Dell as he has a ton of competition for targets and a tough matchup. But I would waffle quite a bit.

Full ppr flex - pick one

Achane
Waddle
Mason

Since Miami plays today, need to make the call this evening. Since Waddle is the only sure thing, leaning in that direction.

It's good logic. With Achane a GTD, even if he does play Waddle may still be the best option.

Based on gut alone I think CMC misses this week too, but that may be magical thinking. You have nothing else to throw in on Sunday?
