What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (4 Viewers)

In seriousness, thanks for turning me on to Alpine. If not for you and this thread, I'm not sure I would have had any clue what it was when it came to Michigan.
:suds:
Definitely one, if not, the best collection of IPAs out there.
Have you had any Half Acre? IMO they are turning out the best lineup of consistent IPAs in Chicago. Really excited to try their Big Hugs and Vanilla Big Hugs stouts tomorrow.

I have had Vellajo, the one they keep changing the name of, Daisy Cutter and Akari. Great beers, no doubt. I still prefer the Pipeworks IPAs if we are talking Chicago only.

Gone Away (formerly Senita and Heyoka) is amazing. Navajo, their DIPA, can go toe to toe with any DIPA out there IMO, but it's brewery release only. PW quality and availability have slipped as of late, which sucks.

That sucks. I have been on PW for awhile based on recommendations from here. I have family in Chicago and go there a few times a year. The expansion hasn't been kind to the quality?

That is definitely a fear on the expansions of these craft breweries. I know Sebowski thinks Alpine has lost something in their move with GF. So far, I haven't noticed it with Founders, but it is always a concern.

Yeah their canned versions of the bottles aren't there, it may happen but who knows. And the expansion could have killed them, from what I have heard they had to dump multiple batches of beer due to QC issues. I still buy their beer and Lizard King (mosaic Pale) is in my regular rotation.

ETA One of PW biggest issue is that they self distribute so orders are inconsistent with qty and what was ordered. IE store orders XYZ but instead gets ABC, very prevalent in their one offs.

It's been an amazing beer weekend on my trip to San Francisco. I went to the Rare Barrel in Berkeley yesterday and to Russian River in Santa Rosa today. I had at least a taster of basically everything on the menu at both places. The beers have been fantastic. It has been an epic beer pilgrimage.

Nothing fancy...just a little Fat Tire while in working out in the garage. What would I do without beer?
I just pictured you benching 300 pounds and then chugging that Fat Tire like a maniac.
working, out in the garage

NOT

working out, in the garage

A co-worker dropped off a growler with a twist off top that is taped shut. How long does something like this last unopened? He purchased it late last week (Friday), I have to believe it would be flat by now. If it can be stored, could I keep it until this Saturday? I was planning on putting it in my fridge as soon as I got home tonight.

Yeah itll be fine and wont be flat. Growlers last a while if unopened. I've drank ones that were a month old and they drank fine. If its something hoppy you want to drink it fresh as possible. Stouts and porters you can sit on for a bit with (usually) minimal flavor change. Of course the sooner you drink it, the closer it will be to tasting straight from the tap.

Can't shake this damn cold/sickness...gonna lay off the beer for a couple days...I'll live vicariously through you guys til I feel better, so drink up!

Sunshine City IPA at Green Bench in St Pete. Holy crap, this is a great IPA. I put this right up there with Crank as far as Tampa Bay IPAS go, and dare I say...a little higher? Just awesome.

This is only my 3rd time at Green Bench, they have always been very underwhelming although it has the best atmosphere/ambiance in the area...and I've never seen or heard of this beer before...but damn...reminds me of some of the better Chicago IPAs Hawks has sent me. Super impressed, I hope they keep this one on regularly

I got let out of work at noon yesterday due to blizzard conditions in Denver -- which started a pretty epic little afternoon/night of drinking strong beers:

Pliny the Elder

Bourbon County Regal Rye imperial stout aged in rye whiskey barrels with blackberries, candied cherries, fresh sour cherries, and sea salt

Rare Barrel Map of the Sun golden sour ale aged in oak barrels with apricots

Evil Twin Imperial Biscotti Break Natale imperial porter with sour cherries

Terrapin Wake-n-Bake imperial coffee oatmeal stout

Evil Twin Soft DK imperial stout

Surly Abrasive imperial IPA

The Regal Rye was pretty delicious, although perhaps not as good as Cherry Rye or Backyard Rye from past years. I got lots of espresso/roasted coffee, really prominent oak barrel notes, rye whiskey, caramel, chocolate covered-cherries, brown sugar, blackberries, raspberries, dark fruits, and some mild saltiness that lingered on the palate. I didn't particularly love the lingering saltiness that left you with a tingling sensation of salt on your tongue -- it just seemed somewhat distracting from the overall flavor of the beer. That said, it was a really enjoyable drinking experience.

The Rare Barrel Map of the Sun was fantastic. Huge fuzzy apricot and peach flavors with the perfect degree of sourness in my opinion. Everything I have ever had from Rare Barrel has been awesome (i.e., Cosmic Dust, Ensorcelled, Dubious Nights, Home Sour Home, Impossible Soul). They are probably my top target for beer trading right now.

At Cycle now, just had an Electric Boots Berliner, now having a Vienna IPA...you know Cycle is stepping up their game when I drink beers other than Crank here.

Waiting on a delivery of BCBS Coffee and Regal Rye, then stopping in to Rapp before heading home.

Good day in St Pete today!

Had one last night that I took back with me from a recent trip to NC. Delicious is correct.

Then found another one in WI on the way home from a business trip.

Got ####### schmamerred on Delirium last night - I've been on a bender like no other for the last 3 weeks, prob haven't drank this much or smoked this much weed in a 3 week stretch in about a decade. Think I'm gonna keep this ride going until 1/1.

Birthday tradition Alpine lunch had 3 Nelson, a Hop Boxed, Singled Out Galaxy, Odin's Raven.... Hit Benchmark on the way home. Going to dinner now and then birthday traditions will continue with closing down the walkable Pizza Port. God Speed fellas. God Speed.... :banned:

Awesome. Happy Birthday.

Turning 40 on Christmas and stocking up for what should be a decent night of drinking, or so I will be told the next afternoon...picked up

Revolution Deth's Star ba imperial stout

Revolution Bean Gene ba coffee porter

Revolution Blue Gene ba blueberry porter

Nelson x2

Half Acre Big Hugs

Pipeworks Lizard King

Surly Abrasive

And some others. Have some other good beers but no omgwhalezbro. Unless you count regular BCBS. I didn't wait in line though so any chance of tasting the rare is gone...

Oh. And still have a Marshal Zhukhov that Wing sent me awhile ago. That will likely be opened.

Work Christmas party last night -- got hooked the hell up by "secret Santa" with:

Crooked Stave Mama Bear's Sour Cherry Pie

Great Divide Barrel Aged Old Ruffian

Last night -

Community Beer Works The Snow (imperial stout) - cask

Alpine Pure Hoppiness

Almanac Hoppy Sour: Wakatu

Community Beer Works Frank (pale ale)

That Almanac sour was much better than I had anticipated. Didn't know what to expect but definitely glad I got it.

I love Mama Bear. One of my favorite Crooked Stave beers. You've got a Secret Santa that knows what's up.

I just picked up some bottles of Crooked Stave & Mr. B's new Plum Batonnage aged in French white wine barrels with plums.

Greenbush Delusion Imperial Stout

Any of the Chicagoans recommend something from Haymarket? They are building a new brewery five minutes from me.
