What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (3 Viewers)

I tried Sculpin and Gratefruit Sculpin for the first time as I found a store that carried them here in RI. I guess I was a bit underwhelmed which is probably mostly due to the hype surrounding them. I liked the Gratefruit Sculpin a bit more and think both are really solid but again, expectations probably hurt my evaluation. There are definitely other IPAs I like better then Sculpin. Only had one each though so perhaps my mind will change as I make it through each six pack.
Do you know how old they were? My understanding is that Sculpin falls off pretty quick.

The Habanero version actually has some kick to it, so buyer beware. Got a single, wouldn't do a 6pack, but was interesting.

Don't know what types of IPAs you enjoy, but Ruination 2.0 by Stone is a new favorite of mine lately. Very much a shotgun to the face with the hops though to be aware.

Question about beer, going camping for the 4th weekend and we are looking to take a new beer to try with us for the weekend. We are kind of into the no GMO kick right now. Anyone got any good recommendations? We live in Michigan if that changes the recommendations. Thanks in advance

Michigan? Sorry, that state's a dead zone for beer.

Thanks to Wing, I'm enjoying a Crank and it as advertised: delicious and crushable. My friends say thanks, we love it.

I could recommend a million beers, but I have no clue what has GMOs.

 Glad you like it! Its teh juice!
It really is. How are their other beers? Anything as good?
Their stouts are world class, but most are limited as hell...their double IPAs (rotating) are great, as are their session IPAs (but not as good as Crank)...they do one offs sometimes that are excellent..I should have sent you a Galactic Supercluster, a galaxy hopped wheat - I'm hoping they keep it all summer...they have a pretty good coffee porter (year round) called Cream and Sugar Please...

But their stouts and IPAs are their bread and butter. Look up Rare DOS on BA...its available in bottles right now...

Cool, just grabbed a Ruination 2.0 yesterday. Sounds delicious.

Just stopped by Hailstorm to grab 2 growlers of Nelson hopped Prairie Madness. Need to go back for some Captain Serious. Have a 4 day weekend coming up. My poor, poor liver....

Drinking my last Julius. :sadbanana:
I'M drinking your last Julius. It's realky juicy, similar to Crank really. Crank might even be better.
People say I'm crazy for saying things like that...but I agree...maybe I'm biased because I love my local beer, but to me Crank holds its own against any IPA I've had...I'll have some Hill Farmstead this weekend, so that may change. From a few weeks ago:

Went with Crank while Julius was still fresh on the palate. Crank is definitely the closest thing to NE IPAs Ive had...not saying it beats Julius or Sip of Sunshine (Ive had em both now), but its in the same ballpark.
PseudoSue is the only beer Ive had that I thought was easily better...but opinions are like a-holes...lol

BF1> If you need GABF tickets, let me know. Sat afternoon might be difficult to come by but I can probably do the other sessions easily.

Actually Hawks will be drinking my last Julius this weekend...he's been sitting on it for a week...sneaky SOB lol
Haven't had a chance to actually sit down and enjoy it...been crazy busy. It will happen in the very near future though. Fri or Sat the latest!

Southern Tier Tangier. Pretty awful. Strange because I love almost everything ST makes, but this is definitely a 'thumbs down'.

I really want to try their new Choklat Oranj Stout, but haven't seen it in any stores yet. A couple of friends visited the brewery within the last month and tried it. Both said it was pretty good. I'm guessing neither of them are big orange chocolate fans. I love the stuff.

I've seen it in Michigan but it doesn't really interest me

At World of beer in Orlando. So far:

Funky Buddha Big Guava Jelly ale

Funky Buddha Blueberry Cobbler

Angry Chair German Choc Cupcake Stout

Cigar City Jolly Ollie

Cigar City Horchata Nitro

Cigar City White Oak Citrus IPA (cask)

Wynwood IPA

Green Bench Low Micro IPA

About to try Funky Buddha French Toast and about 6 more beers.
Is Funky Buddha More Moro Blood Orange IPA worth getting my hands on? Just came on at Whole Foods and never is around here as far as I've seen.

Bell's says this about their farm: http://bellsbeer.com/about/farm/

About the Bell's FarmMoisture management: No-till farming practices support surrounding ecosystems by minimizing erosion and the use of water-contaminating fertilizers, all while improving soil quality.

Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP) certified

• It is tiled for draining which helps oxygenate the soil and allows earlier planting and a longer season.

• All crops are 100% Non-GMO (genetically modified organism)

• Barley is grown on a 3 year rotation.

Fertilizer is tightly controlled and spoon fed, which allows better absorption of nitrogen that would otherwise be lost to the water table.

I don't know if that means that all of their ingredients are non-GMO (as I assume they source some ingredients from elsewhere), but at least they are seemingly trying.

Peak and Wolaver's are certified Non-GMO, it appears. Uinta is close or something. Uinta would be the best of those 3, imo.

http://www.spins.com/non-gmo-beer-on-the-rise/#.VZQN9Pm6e70

Uinta from Salt Lake City, has a wide selection of USDA Organic certified beer. (They also make the best commercially available IPA in my opinion, “Hop Nosh”). The USDA Organic label claim is similar to Non-GMO Verified because they both ensure that no GMOs are incorporated into products carrying their labels. It would seem that Uinta currently has five of its brews carrying this exalted certification. I have tried four of the five of Uinta’s USDA Organic beers, “Baba,” “Hazel,” “Hyve,” and “Sum’r,” and they have only solidified Uinta’s place as my number one favorite brewery. As a dedicated beer consumer and connoisseur, knowing that what I am consuming is safe and healthy for me is absolutely paramount.

Pretty sure they had it at the Wegmans on Amherst St. as of last Friday. Not 100% sure on that though.

Had Solemon Oath Pain Cave last night. Horrible. Smelled and tasted like a pilsner and it's supposed to be a IIPA.

Nice. I'll have to check Orchard Park again.

I wonder if any of the Buffalo or Rochester locations will be getting one of these - Wegmans Pub :excited:

So I got this private message on BA from Sixpoint brewery today:

Hi wingnutter,

Thanks for being a customer of our brews. I am reaching out about a recent review you posted (for Jammer Gose)

(link to review)

Naturally, the review struck us because it is quite negative, and we don't want to let you down (or swing and miss, as you said). That being said, we did take your feedback into consideration, and we have remade this beer and the customer feedback thus far on the second round has been very solid. We would like you to be able to revisit this brew as well as a valued customer. We believe you'll enjoy it!

Would you be interested in revisiting this beer? We can arrange a fresh sample for you.

It may also benefit you for us to explain our intention with the second round, as well as the processes and ingredients for our new beer.

Cheers, and thanks again!
So I wrote back saying Id absolutely be willing to revisit and edit my review accordingly, and in my review I said it wasnt a bad beer, just that it didnt taste like a Gose to me.. He asked for my email and shipping address and said he will get that fresh sample to me right away.

I thought it was a cool gesture and an example of great customer service...Ill definitely give them a few upticks for the customer service alone, I just hope the beer is better this time around.

Sixpoint has done that with someone else in the "local community". He repeatedly trashed Sixpoint so they sent him a bunch of free beer. He drank some, gave some away, and continued to trash them. Classy.

Finally having a Shorts Hopstache. Delicious ipa with grapefruit. More hints of grapefruit than a full on grapefruit beer like Sculpin. Shorts has put out some really tasty IPAs this year and this is up there with their best.

Eta: actually, it's pretty grapefruit forward. Love it.

It rivals Grapefruit Sculpin. So good. Did Shortcake just get released? That always sells out super fast.
