What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (1 Viewer)

Wow....Goose Island's Rare Bourbon County event is all sorts of interesting this year. Tickets are a lottery only, if you win the lottery you can buy 2 tickets @40 each. Then you can buy up to 3 Rares @60 per.....220 for 3 bottles of beer is pretty ####### steep. Although these were aged for 2 years in 35 year old Heaven Hill's barrels.
I've been entering myself (and my brother) in the lottery every day since it started on Friday. You can enter once a day. It is really expensive, but the release day sounds like an awesome experience, the BC Rare is a one-of-a-kind beer that should be incredible, and it would be a great excuse to go some visit some friends back in Chicago. If I get picked in the lottery, I am definitely going and buying my full allotment. Here is the link for the lottery if anyone wants to enter:

Yeah I am entering daily as well and will buy my full allotment as well if I get tickets, still will be the most expensive beer I have ever bought.

Unfortuently, being in the beer business precludes me from being able to afford to buy beer. :kicksrock:

I'm pretty much done with #### like this. I've reach my limit of how much time and effort and what hoops I'm going to jump through to get beer. This is too much for me and #### a lottery (run by a macro) that "let's" me purchase something.

I'd love to try it. Just too much for me. I'd trade off cellar beers for it. Other than that, hope I run in to it somewhere. And I don't blame them for pricing at ll. I'm a supply and demand guy. Demand has gotten us here, and it will take us further.

Super Session #2 courtesy of my GB Wing - very good session IPA

Lagunitas DoppleStiky - very good Alt Ale. Never have had an Alt Ale before...it's good, and happy I got some.

4 Hands Volume 3 - Awesome beer. They say it's a rye wine aged in rye whiskey barrels. Outstanding.

Yep that Volume 3 is delicious. Had one Sunday.

Been drinking barley wines lately. Revolution's Straight Jacket is outstanding.

I had another awesome weekend of beer drinking in Colorado. I went up to the mountains to do some hiking and camping and to go to the Casey Brewing and Blending October release in Glenwood Springs. One of my friends that went with me just got an interview for a position as a regional sales director for Firestone Walker, so I broke out a couple barrel-aged FW beers from my cellar to celebrate and to help my friend prepare for the interview:

Firestone Walker Parabola imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels (2014) - One of my all-time favorite beers and perhaps my favorite bourbon barrel-aged stout ever. It's so rich and complex with tons of barrel character, yet so smooth with practically no heat with a year and a half of age on it. Rich dark chocolate fudge, charred oak, bourbon, vanilla, roasted coffee, dark fruits, dark cherry, oats, caramel, and molasses. Just awesome.

Firestone Walker Stickee Monkee quad aged in bourbon barrels

Russian River Pliny the Elder (I stumbled across several bottles sitting on the shelf at a random liquor store in a small mountain town)

Casey Family Preserves Montmorency Cherry wild saison

Casey Plum Fruit Stand farmhouse ale

Casey Nectarine Fruit Stand farmhouse ale

Casey East Bank honey farmhouse ale

Casey/Aspen Biere de Garde

Crooked Stave Nightmare on Brett aged in apple whiskey barrels

Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin IPA

The GABF Members Only session on Saturday afternoon was fantastic as well. Thanks again to the Aristocrat for hooking me up with tickets from all of his hard work (and hard drinking) as a group leader of the GABF volunteer staff. On Thursday night, my GABF game plan was largely focused rare barrel-aged stouts and barrel-aged sours that I thought would kick early, so I planned a run on world class IPAs to start off Saturday. I also hit the Midwest, Mountain, and Pacific Northwest regions, which I largely ignored on Thursday night just because I ran out of time. Here were some standouts for me from the Saturday session:
"hard work"

Glad you had fun. The two ticket offer to the Saturday afternoon session will stand for as long as I'm a volunteer Captain. No plans on retiring anytime soon.

You are the man!

Had a lot of catching up to do in this thread. It was a pleasure to meet Sebowski at the festival this year.

If there is any chance you could send out some of that sour saison, let me know. On about half of the breaks I took, I ponied back up to Sebowski's brewery and kicked another ounce of it back. Absolutely delicious.

It's finally happening!

CCB vs. 3 Floyds: The Tap Takeovers Posted on October 6, 2015 by Cigar City Brewing
As you remember from an earlier blog post, we promised tap takeovers of 3 Floyds beer here at CCB and our beer up at 3 Floyds. Here’s the big details:

Monday, November 2nd, CCB takes over the taps at 3 Floyds in Munster, Indiana

Monday, November 9th, 3 Floyds takes over the taps at CCB in Tampa, Florida

Both tap takeovers will be ticketed. We do not have ticket pricing information yet. We do not have finalized beer lists for each event. We do not have exact times lined up for the events yet. We will announce the details on all fronts as soon as we lock everything up.

Monday is damn near impossible. :kicksrock:

I've got no problem with the pricing or the folks who pursue this stuff, but I won't be. I think the most I've ever spent for a take-home drink is a $120 bottle of scotch. Not going to do the math, but I'm pretty sure this GI beer would top that on cost per ounce.

Crank IPA. This beer has changed. Its gotta be a new recipe. More bitter and dank than ever before, and clear as a bell...nowhere near juicy as before. Its still delicious, but this aint the Crank I know. Its different enough, I couldnt have picked it out of a lineup...Im all for tweaking recipes a bit form time to time, but call it something else if it lands this far form the original.

Also, the sour game in Tampa Bay just got ramped up...Orange Belt Brewing is a "new" brewery at Pegs Cantina, which is where Cycle was born...Cycle's head brewer Eric has branched out and started his own brewery out of Cycles old spot, and he's focusing on sours - I missed the first few of their releases (which have been on tap at Cycle, including a Lime Gose, a Blueberry-Coconut, a Strawberry Rhubarb, and a Raspberry Berliner), but picked up a crowler of See How It Gose, a collab with 7venth Sun, brewed with orange zest and salt, then "generously dry hopped with Simcoe and Citra". SCHWING!

#### that. Crank ruled, glad I got a taste of it before they messed it up.

I am to fall beers as Mario is to bricks.

Founders Harvest, Liberty Street Punkin Pie, Great Lakes Oktoberfest.

Well they have a new production facility, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and figure it was brewed there...if so, I hope they get it dialed in the next batch.Currently drinking the See How It Gose...delicious dry hopped sour.

That's why Crank changed I bet.

Heady Topper. Out####ingstanding. There are a few that are on par with but not better than. So glad I got to finally try this!!!

Nah, Crank is Doug's beer. I think its the new facility theyre growing into. Ill ask about it next time Im there.

Meanwhile, I just cracked a crowler of their Home Alone II: Electric Boogaloo IPA...out. #######. standing. Reminds me of a Going Away or one of those dank crushable Chicago beers. I hope they keep this one around for a bit, it would give Crank a run for my money. So good.

Heading out to 3 Floyds tomorrow. One of their guest taps is Big Bad Baptist so want to try this. They also have Pear Bear on tap, a new sour that is getting good reviews. Not a big sour fan but can't wait to try this. Maybe this is my gateway sour....I fear for my wallet if that's the case.

Cycle Home Alone 2: Electric Boogaloo IPA....one of their best ever. Mosaic bomb (I think?). Super tasty.

Jerk pork loin on the smoker, starting off with more Prairie -- Brett C. this time. I'm drinking way to much Prairie lately considering its $10+ / pint -- but damn, is it good.

What did you have?
Not as much as I would have liked but I was a detour on our way to traverse city wine tasting weekend

L-I-V-I-N is a Belgian Saison brewed with lemon and orange zest. Light bodied with a bright Golden color, an abundance of citrus aromas blended with spicy yeast esters greet the senses. This beer is bright and tangy with flavors of clove and lemon and a mildly tart finish that cleans and dries the palate.

Shorts Kind Ale a.k.a. Harvest Ale, is a seasonal beer made each fall to celebrate a successful growing season. True to tradition, we commemorate the earths agricultural environment by using freshly picked hops to wet hop this brew. Straight from the fields on Leelanau Peninsula, local hops impart a mellow earthiness to this ale that lead to moderate bitter tones and a subtle sweetness in the finish.

No complaints

Buddy called an hour ago and told me to stop by...he gave me some Heady Topper from his VT trip last week and shared a growler of Treehouse Green IPA. Fantastic.

Now enjoying a Heady.

Ballast Point Ocktoberfest Dead Ringer is a very tasty beer. I always like to try out new beers in this style this time of year and this one does not disappoint. Best domestic Ocktoberfest I've had.
