What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (4 Viewers)

Drinking the Westbrook Gose...it looks like OJ...juicy, salty, and sour...so damn good.

ETA: if there's a better Gose, I'd like to try it. This is ####### fantastic...I thought Rapp's Gose was on par, but I was mistaken. Rapp makes a damn fine Gose, but Westbrook's is on another level.

So AB is interested in buying out Cigar City...the rumor here is Joe Render is considering it...I don't believe it for a second. Render won't sell out IMO. He's been talking about leaving FL but there's no way he sells out to AB. No way. If he does, it would be a sad sad day for craft beer.

I can't believe he would turn it down. Obviously AB will ruin the name like they did with Goose Island. Hard not to turn that kind of money down, just open another brewery in 3-5 years, based on the agreement. It would be a sad day for CC fans.Drinking Saugatuck Neapolitan Stout.
Is the Goose Island name really ruined? AB hasn't touched the good beers they make at GI as far as I know. I'm pretty happy buying 750s of Matilda and Sophie at Costco for $5, although i don't know whether AB has anything to do with that.
I agree totally with this.

I always enjoy hitting the Clybourn pub

Not at all a traditional German Gose, but best new style gose. I think the Anderson Valley Gose and Blood Orange Gose are close but Westbrook still better. They did a collab with Stillwater (who Westbrook contract brews for) called Gose Gone Wild that is really something

But if he sells, the recipes of all the flagship beers go with it...no way they hand over the keys to Jai Alai. This won't happen.

Sure he will lose the recipes, that doesn't stop him with creating new ones though. Tastes evolve over time also. If they come up with an offer he can't refuse, he probably selling unless he is thinking of expanding outside of the Florida market.
Posted at BeerAdvocate, from FB:Joey Redner: So that meeting took place BEFORE the 10 Barrel and Elysian deals closed. There hasn't been a second meeting in that time. Draw your own conclusions and remember newspapers can troll too.

Joey Redner: We also met with some people from Mahou San Miguel before the Founders deal and CBA at one point . And we talk with private equity folks all the time. You always take the meeting because information is cool.

Joey Redner: I suspect you won't need to boycott CCB for selling to ABI. Unless you can get me 100 million. For 100 million I don't even like beer.

Joey Redner: It is a moot point anyway. We took a meeting. It ain't much of a story.

I always think it's kinda funny how many beer aficionados scoff at the idea of their favorite breweries being bought out by the big boys, yet similarly complain about rising beer prices. They want their favorite places to keep brewing their favorite stuff at the same relatively low prices. Consolidation is huge in the beer industry just as it is in, say, banking. The big fish know they can't carve out a niche in the market themselves, but they can do so by purchasing smaller companies with a strong market presence. They may have some supply chain changes, but they'd be foolish to screw with a brewery's product. Why buy a place like Goose Island if you're just gonna #### up all their beers? Makes no sense.

Which particular Yeti style? There are plenty of stouts out there to try. Have you tried Victory Storm King (assuming you are in PA?)

Kind of need more info
hi ditka, have tried the yeti imperial stout and the yeti oak aged espresso stout and love both. was wanting something along that line of beer to compare.

have tried the youngs choc stout and Samuel smith choc stout and they don't compare to the yeti for me.

i'm in nc
Beers I'm pretty sure you have access to that compare (yes, Yeti is great):

Ten Fidy

Old Rasputin

Stone Imperial Russian Stout (comes out every April)

Founders Imperial Stout

If you like coffee in your beer like the Expresso Yeti, Look for Founders Breakfast Stout.

That's off the top of my head. Look for local breweries. You probably have some great stout around I've never heard of.
thanks sebowski.I have not been able to find the founders which is 1 I was going to try. I will look for the others you mentioned above as well. it stinks paying $8-10 a bottle and not liking it, hence asking for the knowledge here.
Other beers distributed to charlotte/Huntersville area, but not sure what total wine has:

- olde hickory event horizon

- duclaw retribution

- olde hickory imperial stout

- brooklyn chocolate stout

- brooklyn black ops

- bunch of different evil twin stouts
thanks palmer. I'm sure i'll be able to find a couple with both lists.
Ended up finding and getting:

Founders breakfast stout

Yeti espresso...it was there

Big bad baptist imperial stout

Olde hickory brewing imperial stout with tad of honey. Apparently after a few sips I will feel like a Russian czar...

Palmer, I got our friend Rob the big bottle of delerium tremens to pay him back the thank you of the yeti he got me. Know if he drinks that?

Thanks again for the recommendations guys.

Excellent choices. I'm sure he does but have only had a few beers with him and that wasn't one of them

Fyi, 3 of those 4 beers have coffee added to them. Personally not a fan of that, but I believe I'm in the minority there.

I usually drink crappy domestic macros or Shiner Bock. Tis the season for my favorite seasonal....

11%ABV Duck Rabbit Barleywine Ale

Sitting at Cycle, enjoying a Crank IPA (and getting 4 growlers filled). So juicy. $5 growler fills on Mondays...you just can't beat that. #DrinkingLocal

My connection there has fallen through. You keep talking that beer up i may have to try to get a trade in with you.

Pliny the Younger is getting tapped this week in Denver. Keep an eye out for PtY tapping events this week and next in select markets.

I paid $16.99 for Hopslam last night. Its unbelievable what the hype has done for this beer over the last 5 years. I'll always get my one six-pack each winter, but with all the great double ipas on the shelves these days its hard to justify that price.

Also, Ballast Point is now in Wisconsin - great news. I've had the Sculpin, wondering what else is worth trying? There were 5 or 6 different bombers and probably 4 different sixpack varieties on the shelves at my local yesterday.

I really enjoy Victory at Sea coffee vanilla porter and am in love with Grapefruit Sculpin.

Hypothetical beer nerd question: Assume you are at a Pliny tapping event and you're waiting in the four hour line to get your $12 8 oz. pour. If you throw a rock up in the air, what are the odds it will hit a dude with a huge beard when it lands?

At least 85% in Denver. I shaved my beard for my Kenny Powers Halloween costume last year and then went to the Avery IPA Fest the next week sporting a week's worth of stubble. I felt like a real outcast there without my beard.

You should have gone as Kenny Rogers

Two Youngers, 3 Expos, 2 Bad Boys, a Good, and a Council Tangerine sour. Turned into a big day.

And no lines for this neck beard.

A lot of percent. But not as much as before? I'm seeing more and more younger cleaner cut kids at the bars these days. But maybe I'm just getting more and more older and disheveled.

Hey Palmersteel...you're in Charlotte right? If so, we need to talk...I need some NoDa Hop Cakes DIPA....just a couple of cans.

Yessir. I was out of town yesterday when they hit stores, but I'll swing by the brewery this week and see what I can find.
 NoDa FB post at noon today (Wed): We deliver to Plaza Midwood/Elizabeth, Huntersville, Steele Creek, Gastonia/Belmont and West CLT areas today.

If youd be interested in a small trade let me know, I wouldn't mind a couple of HDRs too...

I don't follow. I'm pretty sure the cheapest I've ever seen it is $11.99 when it was first introduced ~2007. All of Bell's seasonal big beers are in the $14-16 range when I see them, so that price seems right in line to me.

Now in the VA/DC Metro it regularly runs $25-30/six pack due to scarcity and hype. That's worthy of my scorn.

:lmao: So I had a girlfriend in Charlotte last year...the first time I booked a flight there I made a comment to her about how the airport abbreviation was CLT...you know, because I was flying up to see her and have teh secks. We laughed and laughed and then did it.
Have I ever told you that I hate/envy you?

Just found a bottle of Saison Nogne O from Norway at the lcbo

Anyone tried it? Grabbed one and got it chilling for tonight... Norway usually does things well.

And it still flies off the shelves in this area. I got an e-mail from my go-to beer place (in a residential area not accessible to most at work) on Monday morning saying they have 11 cases, selling six-packs for $20, one per customer. They sold out in about an hour.

Lol...would it make you feel better if I told you she won't even talk to me anymore or ship me beer from there? Plus, the last time I drove up she wouldn't even give it up. 8 hour road trip (one way) for nothing.Wait, I did bring back a crap ton of beer from Charlotte/Asheville/SC...so it wasn't really a trip for nothing...but still.

I've heard of places selling for up to $22 around here. I found it for $17.50 and was happy. They had a whole massive display of it at Wegmans for that price.
