Where Will Matt's Castle Be? (1 Viewer)

Cassel is good at one thing, being a backup. Why would anyone sign him to be their starter?
they said the same about Favre...Shaub was a backup, Delhomme was too..Rich Gannon was a CAREER backup until he won an NFL mvp with Oakland , and turned into one of the best QB's during his playing time..I also remember Tom Brady being a backup behind Bledsoe at one point in time..Kurt Warner was bagging groceries and became a starting QB and two-time NFL mvp and a SB winner..not saying Cassel is anything like these guys, but, you never know!the difference between MC and some others is that he is playing at a high level, especially for a guy who didn't start a single college football game and hasn't started since high school..he'll follow the money, where ever that leads him to..Seattle, Oakland ( Russell sucks), Det, Minnesota, Buffalo ( c'mon, Edwards and Losman?!!? ) Houston ( can Shaub stay ever healthy?)

If Cassell plays at a decent level the rest of the year he will get himself a nice payday from some team.

Detroit is always in the market for a QB, Minny needs a QB. Carolina may be looking to replace Jake, Tampa Bay is always a player .

1) He'll leave even if Brady isn't ready at the beginning of the season. Brady will be ready at some point and Brady is too young to wait on to retire.

2) He will get starting QB dollars, he won't get franchise player dollars. He probably won't go to one of the more desperate teams unless they are willing to throw money at him and I just don't see that.

3) If he has half a brain, he'll go to a decent team and play back-up to a QB that won't likely be around in a few years or go to a decent team with a QB he thinks he can beat, which changes the list a little bit.

None of those teams would give him as much money as he could get from a team that needs a starter NOW.

Cassel will be an UFA after this season. I'd be shocked if the Pats used the franchise tag on a guy they expect to be a backup. They'd have to pay him the average of the top 5 QBs in the league to keep him.The person who says "you just have to chuck the ball up to Moss" is showing how little he knows about football, IMO.Cassel's not the next coming of God, but he's improving with every start he makes and has played better than a number of guys who are currently "leading" their teams. He'll get a shot at starting next year.Unfortunately for him, no matter what team he goes to, he won't have the same quality personnel around him and it's going to make him look bad.

I did take into consideration a team throwing money at him, but I just don't see it happening. Minnesota seems to be the most likely to swing for the fences on a FA QB, but they need one that can throw the ball deep! He's not that type of QB. On the other hand, he could actually start and do well for a team like Chicago.

Knowing what we do right now why would Chicago consider pursuing him?

I don't think any team is gonna pursue him very hard. I also think that the first round of next year's draft is gonna be deep at QB. I think the teams that go after him are gonna be looking at more of a game manager at QB. I think he's a better Orton than Orton at this point, which is why I used the Chicago example, but I honestly don't know where he may wind up. I think the desperate teams may spend money elsewhere in FA and get QB in the draft.

I don't get any inkling of that around here....

Why would anyone sign Culpepper to be a starter when the team has not won a game and Stanton should already kwow the playbook. Lets face it Cassel may not be a great QB but he is a lot better than a lot of the current starting QBs.

Cassel has played well because he has a strong team around him, and Belichick has designed game plans which play to his strengths. He is not a complete QB. If it were not that teams are so afraid of Randy Moss, he would find it much harder to complete the short passes which are the basis of his game. He would not be as successful in another franchise.

Personally, I think GM's would know this, and my bet is that he is back at NE with a good contract, but backup money.

In my opinion he is as good as gone next year. He has played exceptional
I stopped reading here. You and I must be watching a different Matt Cassel. Even yesterday, his final #'s looked great (they should after all his attempts), but he was brutally awful to watch.
Look at NE last year and all the pressure it must be to come in and try anf fill the expectations of T. Brady. Now no one is asking him to be T. Brady but with the circumstances that he has been put in with all the injuries to the tailback postition I think he has played exceptional and has grown each week. He will land elsewhere next year with some nice pocket change as long as he keeps doing what he is doing.
