I'm willing to compromise. When I think of "the south" I think of this:

The Deep South: various definitions, usually including Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and South Carolina. Occasionally, parts of adjoining states are included (sections of East Texas, the
Mississippi embayment areas of Arkansas and Tennessee, and northern and central Florida

I would add anything south of Richmond in Virginia and most of North Carolina being the south. Delaware is not the south at all, Maryland has a few southern counties that play south even now but this state isn't like Northern Florida or Tupelo. Texas and Oklahoma have southern themes but I would consider both "western" or the southwest. Cowboy boots, cattle, arid conditions, little green, no rebel flags, even the BBQ is different. San Antonio is more Los Angeles than it is Atlanta, Abilene is something out of a John Wayne western.
