The Browns do seem to be playing with heart and also appear to be headed in the right direction. I'll tell you one thing, the Steelers better not be looking past this game or they're going to get their heads handed to them.
Oh, wait a minute. The Steelers have the Lions next week. No chance they'll be looking past this one.
I really don't know if the Browns are headed in the right direction.Butch Davis was absolutely crucified in the press and the fans eventually turned on him too. It was BAD in this town. What scares me about that is the last time I saw the media attack like that was when Bill Belichick was the coach.
The Belichick experience really made a major impression on me. Here is a coach who is probably going to go down as the greatest coach in NFL history and the media not only failed to recognize it but tried to personally destroy the man. And why? Because he didn't get along with the media. It is completely inexcusable. I dismiss the notion that "he needed seasoning". So you try to destroy the guy? That is how you season him? BS.
That is where the media's credibility completely went out the window for me forever. I can no longer trust the media to ever represent a story fairly without an agenda. Anyone who has any respect for the media I also do not trust. They are scumbags. They exist to cause trouble.
When you objectively look at Butch Davis, you see a lot of similarities with Belichick.
1. He came from a pedigree of success elsewhere. He helped rebuild the Miami Hurricanes.
2. He did things in a very unorthodox way.
3. He angered the media.
I am wary that Butch Davis will just wind up somewhere else, he will do things
his way and he will succeed in a huge way.
On the other hand, I also fear that Romeo Crennel is akin to Bud Carson. Both were old defensive co-ordinators who had been passed by for head coaching gigs. The problem for Carson was that he was hired because the priority was to not have a "control-freak" for a coach. I don't understand why that is a priority. A lot of super bowl winning head coaches have been control freaks. Jimmy Johnson was one. Mike Holmgren had to have things his way and left to gain more power in Seattle. You WANT aggressive people. In the end, Bud Carson had no authority as head coach of the Browns and lost the respect of his players. I wonder if that is Crennel's fate. That is my experience.
