WR Ja'Marr Chase, CIN (1 Viewer)

i'm trying to sell where i have him. but not too panicky. i've only traded one of 4 shares so far. sent chase, zach moss for amon-ra, jerome ford, and gainwell (i have swift). if you can do something like that and avert risk while building deph by "downgrading" chase i'm all for it

Sigmund Bloom today, on "On the Couch", suggested that Burrow won't be fully healthy for 6-8 months. He strongly recommended selling Chase while you still can, as his value completely depends on catching contested throws downfield - which Burrow can't.

If we do, who do we think it's a decent target? Bloom suggested Michael Pittman.

In general I’m a fan of Sig, but from time to time he can really be a hack. This is one of those times.

Two years ago the Titans started very poorly their first game and Sig advised on the next WW show to "get out from under" and sell Henry for "pennies on the dollar".

I didn't and of course he was supremely dominant until the mid-season injury.

I love Sig, there's no better interview show in FF (On the Couch) but we have to recognize he gets overly emotional at times. I guess it's the price of living on Narrative Street.

what's wrong w this take though? burrow has been borderline horrendous over 2 games and Burrow seems to have reaggrivated an injury which will ensure he won't get better.

i'm a burrow owner in a $$$$ league, and had to bench him this week for Purdy (worked out ok)... And I'm convinced that benching will continue.

Chase has value with anyone at QB, just nowhere near as much without Burrow. I agree w Sig there.

Shaping up to be a disastrous 1st pick.
Yep. I steered clear of him in all my redraft leagues, but in my keeper league he killed me last year missing time and now this year with Burrow being off. The Burrow injury was the reason I steered clear in redraft. The toughest thing about having Chase is that he will always be ranked in the top 5-10, but the reality his is probably benchable if/until the Bengals turn it around on the field this year.
I’m staying away from all Bengals this year

He's likely a situational start. If you are in a close matchup I'd just play him as his floor is still likely 8-10 points. But if you are an underdog in your matchup, I'd likely bench in favor a WR with a higher ceiling. So frustrating as a dynasty owner though. The Bengals screwed the pooch by not just IR-ing Burrow, or at the very least sitting him through these first few weeks. Now it's something that will likely linger through the whole season.

Locker room interview today after practice:
During a Friday open locker-room session, Chase said he would ‘guess’ that Burrow won’t play Monday (emphasis on the word guess).

just about matched his first 4 weeks in one game

in our format (full PPR with bonus for big plays and milestone games):
  • WK 1-4 - 57.60 pts (29-284-0 + 1-2 rush)
  • Wk 5 - 56.20 15-192-3 on 19 targets

Ugh I traded earlier this week for Andrews + Evans. Sickening
A top 3 redraft pick who is a proven stud for aging vets?
It is redraft not dynasty, not that that makes it much better lol. I’m still confident Mike can have a top 10 season this year but we will see.
Why is that a sickening deal? Chase had a monster game in a situation where the Bengals were playing the Cardinals (only 4 teams allow more passing yards per game than the Cardinals this year)—and the Bengals were without Tee Higgins. Even with that monster game that effectively saved Chase’s season up to this point—Chase is still only the WR8 on the season in half point ppr leagues in regards to how many points he averages per game (17.56). Evans is currently the WR13 in half point ppr and only averages approximately 2 fewer fantasy points per game than Chase—even after the huge game from Chase (15.4 fantasy points per game). Andrews is the second best TE in regards to fantasy points per game in half point PPR and is a must start in position where there is a ton of scarcity. I would argue that even after yesterdays game that your trade looks pretty solid.

Keep in mind that earlier in the season and in this thread—nobody claimed that Chase was garbage—but the claim was that he was not living up to where he was drafted. Even after yesterdays somewhat predictable game (he was primed to have a solid game against a bad team with Higgins out)—he’s still only the WR8. His return on investment in redraft leagues is still negative—but there is plenty of season left.

It was good Burrow finally looked like his old self, much more comfortable driving the ball. But, even as a very happy owner, the numbers will come back to earth a bit more when Higgens is healed up. Right now Chase is basically the the first and second read, and sometimes the third haha. Boyd and Irwin (wtf is this?) seem to go down at first touch, or sit on routes and fall as soon as they catch the ball. With Higgins out though, sky is the limit for Chase.

True, thanks for talking me off the ledge lol. It is only one week. I think Evans has a good shot to be a WR1 this season, so chance to flip Chase and get top 2 TE and top 12 WR was enticing enough.

When asked about the back injury he suffered in the Bengals’ Week 9 win over the Bills, Ja’Marr Chase said, “I’m alive. That’s the best thing right now.”

Chase’s back injury flew somewhat under the radar in the Bengals’ 24-18 win on Sunday night, but the star receiver took a hard fall in the third quarter and was visibly uncomfortable throughout the remainder of the game. Bengals beat writer Paul Dehner Jr. said of Chase’s comments on Monday, “Chase making it sound like his back injury will be something worth monitoring, Concerned tone, to be certain, from him.” The Bengals already had their bye week, so there won’t be any rest for Chase coming unless they team opts to sideline him for a week. It will be interesting to see where he stands on the injury report Wednesday leading up to Week 10’s contest against the Texans.

Was making offers for Ja'Marr today, received an offer straight up for Etienne. Most rankings would say that's a home run, but RB's are just too valuable here.

I feel like he plays and plays pretty normally. They’ll numb it if they need to and give him a ton of padding. Wouldn’t seem like it’s a risk for further injury if it really is only a bruise and should be fairly easy to manage the pain.

seems pretty banged up this week

obvs can’t bench him if he plays but have low expectations

I should rename my one fantasy team this.

Barkley, Pollard, Rhamondre, Ridley, Olave.... Looked great in August lol.

should name mine the No Touch Downers

Chase - 4
Waddle - 3
Olave - 2
Pacheco - 4
Hall - 3
LaPorta - 4
Gibbs - 2

That’s less than 3 TDs per week from my starters
  1. 1
  2. 1
  3. 2
  4. 1
  5. 9 (+ 4 fm QB)
  6. 2
  7. 3
  8. 5
  9. 2
Full PPR but that lineup shouldn’t be 4-5. Aw well, s/b fine ROS - you want to peak late, not early, might still be able to do some damage next month.

Wow yeah that's impressive bad luck. I always felt like you shouldn't rely on TDs to win weeks, but being utterly deprived of them can devastate what looks like a great team on paper.

My concern on him playing is increasing.

Bengals elevated two WR's from the practice squad.

Also keep in mind Chase was outspoken earlier this year that Burrow should not be playing week one and should take more time to recover. I would think that mindset would apply to himself as well.

Also I forgot they play the Ravens next Thursday. Huge game on a quick turn around.

Just rub some dirt on it and play.

It sounds like one of the WRs is normally elevated for special teams.

I think the Bengals entered the week thinking they'd error on the side of caution with Chase, but when Tee got hurt that went out the window.

I expect Chase will play. Normally I'd be concerned it would be as a decoy, but I'm playing against him so bracing for 30+.

Edit, per Twitter:

Bengals WR moves.
1. WR Stanley Morgan replaces S Tycen Anderson, who is a special teams ace.
2. WR Shedrick Jackson replaces WR Tee Higgins. Could've been Charlie Jones but he is out until Thursday.
Neither move indicates anything about Ja'Marr Chase.

That seems like a non-sequitur. The Bengals have 8 guys on the Injury, and excluding Tee and Ja’Marr 5 out of 6 are multi-phase STers. They need bodies. The two guys elevated have zero targets. Stanley Morgan is known for being a STer, the other guy (Shedrick Jackson, Auburn) must have been a UDFA? Know nothing about him.

I should scroll before I post lol that’s some solid Hippling

Here we go:

(Rotowire) The Bengals are hopeful that Chase (back) will be able to play Sunday against Houston, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Chase has dealt with a back bruise throughout the week after landing hard in a victory over the Bills in Week 9. He concluded the week with two limited practices but will go through pre-game workouts before his availability is decided. Chase is officially listed as questionable and his status will become official roughly 90 minutes before the team's 1 p.m. ET kickoff.

How hopeful is the word strong enough that he plays?
