WR Jameson Williams, DET (2 Viewers)

What is his injury status? ESPN says Out so I cannot put him on my IR but Fleaflicker and MFL both state IR.

Should you guys hang onto him in a 1 keeper league with no IR spot?
Almost a redraft situation... a function of roster size and keeper options. If you already have a younger and proven player, it seems unlikely that you would opt for Williams next year. Do we think he has Justin Jefferson upside? Of course, if your roster size is deep enough to keep keep him on the bench for 6-8 weeks, they why not?

As discussed above, he is on the NFI list because he was hurt in college rather than the NFL. Very similar to IR and should be equivalent for fantasy purposes. The NFL makes the distinction for potential contractual reasons.

I haven’t followed him much honestly, do others feel he has that level upside? Curious to get opinions.

He was drafted #12 overall coming off a torn ACL. All you need to know, brother.

Alabama kid has wheels and is expected to play on a team with a lot of garbage time games.

Jameson Williams tore up Georgia's defense that had 5 first round picks and 3 other players that were drafted. They had no answers. He is blazing fast and can outrun defenders even when they have the angle. He is also a very good route runner. His game isn't just deep routes...he can take a slant, screen, or crossing route to the house at any time. His upside is off the charts imo.

Lions' Jameson Williams: Stashes (WR Preview)

September 21, 2022 1:40 PM ET | by Heath Cummings
We've seen Garrett Wilson, Drake London, and Jahan Dotson break out early this season, and don't be surprised if Jameson Williams is next. He's still at least five weeks away, so it may be difficult to stash him if you don't have an IR spot, but his upside means you should at least try. At the very least, he should be rostered in every league that has IR slots.

Lions' Jameson Williams: No timetable for return

September 2, 2022 8:03 PM ET |
General manager Brad Holmes hasn't offered a timetable for Williams' (knee) return to game action, Benjamin Raven of MLive.com reports. "You got to be a little bit conservative and on the safer side when it comes to forecasts and those returns to play. But hopefully, he stays on track, and hopefully it's sooner than later, but we're going to continue to be smart with him," Holmes said.
After tearing his ACL last January during the National Championship Game, Williams has progressed well in his recovery and recently posted a video of himself running and cutting on a turf field, per Williams' Instagram account via Vox Media. However, even though it looks like the rookie is getting close to being ready, Williams will spend at least the first four games of the season on the NFI list, and it seems like Detroit is prepared to hold him out longer if need be. With DJ Chark and Amon-Ra St. Brown atop the depth chart with Josh Reynolds, Quintez Cephus and Kalif Raymond providing solid depth behind them, the Lions can afford to do so as long as everyone else stays healthy.

Would require a drop of like a Mooney who was supposed to be my locked in WR3. Things are going swimmingly.
WTF is going on with the Bears passing game? It just doesn't seem like Eberflus has any kind of plan for Fields so he's just not letting him do anything. I simply cannot believe Fields is this bad.

But...I could see cutting bait on Mooney. Not sure I would do it for Williams at this point but, it is certainly not outrageous to consider.

FWIW Meinke is a solid beat writer. Mostly quotes from receivers coach Antwaan Randle El, who is always optimistic. He’s a good hype man.

No change here, still looking at week after the bye (Week 7 @ DAL.) May start practicing next week. Importantly, no setbacks in the rehab. They’ve kept him very engaged every week and are pleased with his grasp of the offense & coverages.

Obviously zero reps and it may take awhile for him to get going, but nothing except positive news so far.

With St Brown developing so fast, Williams will be the 2nd weapon at WR, I assume the rest of them are expendable whenever.
What is next for the offense to reach the next level?

Final piece of offensive puzzle is quarterback. Hopefully we do not win just enough games to put us out of reach for that in next years draft.

In Holmes We Trust

As a Lions fan, I'm excited about Williams' prospects going forward. But in terms of redraft, I don't see him putting up a ton of value this year. I think there will be too many fits and starts before you feel totally comfortable rolling him out as a starter. Even in leagues with IR, you'll have to activate him well before you know whether he's startable.

Hope like hell I'm wrong and he's the next OBJ

I grabbed him in redraft this week. My hope is he can be a solid WR3 for the last couple of weeks and playoffs. But he is probably the first guy I will drop if other needs/opportunities arise.

If he comes back week 7, then he could easily become a viable option for later bye weeks and beyond.

Players coming off IR and beginning their 3 week practice window this week were discussed at length in Dan Campbell's presser today. CB Jerry Jacobs 2nd round pick Josh Paschal start practicing Wednesday. Of the Offensive players on IR, FB Jason Cabinda is the closest to being ready.

No mention of Jameson Williams.

Good news, bad news from Dan Campbell today.

GOOD - last three weeks he has really amped up his agility and getting back to where he needs to be.

BAD - no timeline on when he'll see the field, but "definitely well beyond the bye week."

have him stashed on IR in a keeper league and also have ASB. I've never had 2 wr's from the same offense and I'll likely deal one of them at some point but I'm not sure which one it will be.

I know ACL tears/recoveries aren’t what they used to me, but is there any concern he won’t have quite the same explosiveness he had prior to the injury?

Apparently Lions brass doesn’t think so or they wouldn’t have traded up to draft him when they did, but it’s not out of the range of outcomes IMO.
As long as he does not rush back then it is highly likely that he will be 100% recovered for a healthy offseason going into 2023. It's paramount a long term approach is deployed from all involved between now and then.

Agree with this. Long view is the right call here IMO.

Yea football teams aren’t paying healthy players to not play. If the Lions fancy themselves a contender next year they’ll want him to have all his rookie snaps out of the way.

I imagine we’ll see him the last 6 weeks or something. I have him but I doubt he ever sees my lineup. But you never know.

He will not really be healthy this season. 12-18 months is the real recovery timeline

9-10 months. Godwin just came back after 9 months. The 18 months thing is a long time ago.

So hold or drop in redraft? I drafted him and put him in the IR slot but I’ve got 2 other possible IR fillers now.

had the same dilemma awhile back - also drafted Gallup so I started the season with two on IR, and got a little crazy with RB lotto tix - I may have had 8 or 9 RBs at one point - so when Kamara was declared out Week 2 I dropped the Cowboys WR. that was dumb, got outbid trying to get him back a few days later. don't want that to happen again.

think I can cover byes no problem and I'm down to 7 RBs (2 lotto tix) - but if I have more injuries it could be an issue. I'm gonna try to hang on, I would love to have a piece of the Detroit Offense when they hit the sweet part of the schedule post-Thanksgiving.

ETA: for context, league is 18 x 12 with 2 IR

As the Lion losses add up....the less and less chance that JW see's the field in 2022 Season.

Really no reason to even dress J-Will this season as Lions are going nowhere fast.
That may be factually correct, but I feel certain he is going to play.
If he is fully healed at some point this year, there is absolutely reason for him to see the field. Some WR's take 2-3 years for the system to start clicking for them. Shouldn't delay if they believe he is truly healed this season.

I think he will see some time, just not sure how relevant he will be FF wise. Just heard today on ESPN that he is still not even ready to practice yet.
