If he’s a day 2 pick, very likely a top 7 WR in my rankings…

.@CodyCarpentier says Javon Baker is the PERFECT wide receiver️
Here’s why![]()
Matt Miller
The more I watch of Javon Baker (WR-UCF) following the Senior Bowl, the more I'm becoming a really big fan. Legitimate vertical threat who adjusts so well to the ball--on tape and did it in person. Have a Round 3 on him currently.
Jim Nagy
One player who'll greatly benefit from @ZebraSports tracking data during @seniorbowl week is UCF wideout Javon Baker.
Prior to Mobile, biggest question NFL scouts had about Baker was his speed but then he was fifth fastest overall player (20.99 mph) at Reese's Bowl. Only WR faster was UNC's Tez Walker (21.18).
Equally impressive, Baker had third-best max deceleration of any prospect, which explains why he's such a good separator on @UCF_Football tape.
For those who don't know, Baker is former 4-star Alabama recruit who was in same famed WR room with DeVonta Smith, Waddle, Juedy, and Ruggs.
We've seen argument that if Baker had same exact college tape but with an Alabama helmet he'd be getting early-round buzz.
We fully agree with that.
Dude has a Sunday skill-set.

UCF WR Javon Baker has been solid all week, nothing overtly stood out, but he saved his best for the last day. On a fade route in one-on-ones, he SKIED for the touchdown catch as if he was on a trampoline. When he went up in the air, there were audible gasps and a few "HOLY SH--!" comments near me. I can still see him RISING above the defensive back, snatching that fade route for a touchdown. Throughout the week, Baker did some work from the slot in addition to some on the outside and could be a name you hear in the future.

It’s not hard to see why people like Javon Baker.
4-star recruit (90 Prospect Grade).
Ideal size (6’1”/208).
Trapped behind Devonta Smith, Jaylen Waddle, Jameson Williams, & John Metchie in 2 years at Bama (but did post 3.61 YPRR & a 76.3 PFF Receiving Grade on 23 routes as a sophomore).
Transferred to UCF & led them in receiving both seasons (56/796/5 & 52/1139/7).
76.3 & 81.3 PFF Receiving Grades in those seasons (2.38 & 3.03 YPRR).
Explosive (led NCAA w/ 21.9 YPR amongst players w/ 50+ receptions).
Good in contested-situations (above a 50% contested-catch success-rate every season).

Listen in on what I had to say about Javon Baker on the @TheFFdynasty podcast
#NFLDraft2024
Javon Baker's release off the line of scrimmage is lightning fast
the footwork/twitch allows him to create separation naturally, not many WRs win vertical and can move like this off the LOS
#NFLDraft2024
Javon Baker's had the 3rd highest yards after catch per reception in 2023
it all makes sense now when you move this well laterally/vertically, you will make plays with your legs after the catch
He can be as high as my WR7 in the 2024 class
#NFLDraft2024
One of Javon Baker's best traits...
Adjusting the the football and making acrobatic plays
#NFLDraft2024
Javon Baker moves like silk
He has the potential to develop into a consistent nuanced route runner.

The #Patriots select UCF WR Javon Baker with the 110th pick in the draft. Baker is another hit for the big board.
True X receiver with great ball tracking skills and some silky smooth route breaks. Love, love, love this pick.

Cocaine is a hell of a drug....
Baker is wrong obviously, but I love the confidence!
Top 13 rookie or top 13 WR in the NFL?Top 10 is a reach...I have him 13 overall.

Javon Baker thinks NFL teams were out of their minds drafting 17 receivers ahead of him.
Brett Whitefield
Oddly enough, he was exactly WR18 on my board. Love the chip though, ARSB vibes.

“Javon Baker made a couple of nice plays with Maye. First, he reached to save a sailing throw. Next, Baker utilized nifty footwork to get out of his break on a crossing route. It’s a very small sample, but Baker distinguished himself and was one of the best players of the morning. Later in the workout, Baker showed off his
smooth route-running ability while catching another pass from Maye.”
Just took him 3.09
Could not wait to make that pick. Legit upside.
Unless you have other targets you like similarly, seems like the time to try and move up for your guySitting at 3.05 in a 1QB and we are currently at 3.01 and he’s still on the board. Potential upside is legit and there’s a clear path to early targets. Fingers crossed

Got him. Had faith he would stay on the board and wanted to let the draft come to me without giving up any more picks. Corley was also still there as a consolation prize. Sinnott/Davis/Irving/McMillan went in round 3 before me. Was a nice feeling to look at the players before draft even started, highlight Baker as the man I wanted ( barring any crazy outliers ) then just sit and wait and have it happen. So often isn’t the case
You like him A LOT, however not enough to take him in the 3rd round?I'm hoping he lasts to me at 4.08 in a 14-team draft. It's a startup where we've already got our vets and while my WR corps is strong, I like this guy A LOT.

Sinnott is fine but zero chance I take those other 3 over Baker. Nice job. Sinnott, Burton, Polk, Baker, McCaffrey are my targets in that range. Like them all quite a bit. Guessing Polk and Burton were already gone.
