WR Jordan Addison, MIN (1 Viewer)

Vikesinsider @vikesinsider
#Vikings HC Kevin O'Connell on Jordan Addison:"He's off to a really good start... what he's done on the grass so far has confirmed a lot of the things that we expected from Jordan. He's also done some things instinctively just playing football within the confines of our scheme... he's showing a willingness to be a blocker, he's showing understanding of how he fits within the scheme and the rhythm and timing of the QB in the pass game. I'm really excited about him.

He's a nearly a "must draft" for me in redraft. The combo of talent , role and opportunity is perfect.
Dynasty Team (12 Team 1 QB PPR) and I took him 1.07 in May .... I have received 4 offers for him since 140 mph Speeding ticket thinking to buy low.
I think the situation is as close to ideal with a QB who will sling it around and JJ takes 2 DB's & Safety on top leaving Addison and TJ Hock to control the middle.
JJ will still get his but there is room for another mouth to feed here...

7 was a steal for single QB. He should rerun value right away. That Thielen role was so juicy. Thicken was just so washed last year that it didn’t result in much production but if Addison can play, he’s got top 20 WR potential.

It’s honestly too early to know for sure with it being his first training camp, but Jordan Addison looks to be the next great Vikings wide receiver. He has tremendous feet for a receiver and snagged an impressive touchdown on the back line of the end zone. I refuse to get hyperbolic with the praise for Addison, but he looks every bit the player that we thought he could be coming out of USC.”

This all sounds very promising Faust and thanks for posting.

Maybe the Vikings have struck gold again and will be fielding a dynamic duo this team has been fortunite enough to have for most of my lifetime watching them.

There was a bit of a lull as far as that goes post Moss and Carter before Diggs and Thielen stepped into those roles.

As far as rookie WRs go, not really a fan. In redraft it all depends on how far he drops for me to consider him.

Sometimes you see rookie WRs make noise during the season, but typically it takes a season for them to figure the NFL out. Also, he's going to be the third option in the passing game.

For dynasty, he's a no brainer.

JJ Zachariason Late Round Podcast ep 647: rookie wideouts in redraft leagues performance vs. ADP (performing over expectation). Long story short, rookies drafted in the top 100 picks since 2011 (roughly the first 8 rounds or so) exceed expectations about 80% of the time. A much higher hit rate than most other populations of players you're looking at in those middle rounds. Statistics tell you to target rookie WRs in those rounds as they will perform above that ADP a large majority of the time.

Also, much to a point you made, it can often take them a while to get going. Whether it's a learning curve, having to earn playing time, falling into playing time due to injuries, etc. So breaking down those numbers during the season shows most of those positive stats are weighted towards later in the fantasy season; ie. during the home stretch and through the playoffs. IMO, exactly when you need them the most.

I personally love targeting a few rookie WRs rounds 5-8. They have high hit rates, and they tend to be my WR4/5 so I don't need them right away. But when it gets late in the season and I'm fighting through bye weeks and injuries, they are really starting to cook.

I would just add to pinkstaplers post (thanks for that and JJs research) that specifically with the Vikings rookie WR who make a positive impression in mini camp have seen that performance translate into the regular season.

Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen are both examples of this, being called Mr. Mankato (where the Vikings used to have mini camp) and drawing more praise for their performance in camp than any other players.

Diggs did not even make the active roster in the first 4 games of his rookie season, but once he did in game 5 he ripped off four 100 yard games in a row and a strong rookie season.

Adam Thielen got all the praise in camp, even over Cordarralle Patterson who was drafted in the 1st round that year. He didn't get much chance to play until his 3rd season with the Vikings, but when he did he performed well and ahead of Patterson and Treadwell who were 1st round picks by the team.

So because of this I do think its worth noting who is doing well in camp with the Vikings. Its been a strong indicator of things to come.

Nice 22 yard catch last night. And a spectacular toe-tapping sideline catch that went onto the box score as a non-catch because they didn’t review. But it was an obvious catch.

If he keeps this up, no way he doesn’t find that WR2 role quickly.

Could be a really nice producer at his ADP if that’s the case.

Vikings coach Kevin Stefanski said Jordan Addison entered the league’s concussion protocol after exhibiting very light symptoms.
Stefanski said Addison could be back as early as Monday, so there isn’t much to worry about here. Addison will sit out of the Vikings’ second preseason game against the Titans this weekend. Expect a few extra routes for Brandon Powell or Jalen Nailor, if he can get healthy in time, versus Tennessee.

Jordan Addison caught 4-of-6 targets for 61 yards and a touchdown in the Vikings’ Week 1 loss to the Buccaneers.

The rookie Addison burst onto the scene with a 39-yard receiving touchdown in the first half of the Vikings’ game against the Buccaneers. It was a product of good route-running and blown coverage as a result of Justin Jefferson’s magnetism. Addison saw a couple other targets in the red zone, including one in the end zone that fell incomplete. He is Minnesota’s WR2 and get many looks with Jefferson drawing defense towards him. Addison is a flex play on a short week against the Eagles in Week 2.

NFL Rookie Watch
Jordan Addison has looked ELITE through two weeks:
• 11 targets
• 7 receptions
• 133 receiving yards
• 19.0 average yards/reception
• 2 receiving TD’s
Addison also logged a speed of 19.88 MPH tonight, which was the FASTEST of any Vikings player.
This is Addison’s second straight week logging the fastest speed of any Vikings player.
The Vikings got a STUD in their rookie WR

He needs more volume. Looks good out there.
Yeah, I never want to be the “were it not for the 63 yard TD” guy, but based on his volume he’s going to see wild swings of production since he isn’t guaranteed to haul in a 63 yard TD every week.

He’s gonna need volume to be trustworthy in lineups. I’m not sure where it’s gonna come from with JJ & Hock being target Hoovers.

:Walter Solcheck voice: Thats just the PPR talking man.

Its only his 2nd game. He has scored in both and to my eyes he looks better than Osborn. He should move up the pecking order for targets as time goes on because of his play as has been reasonably speculated since the Vikings drafted him.

This team passes the ball a ton. The opportunity is there for his volume to increase.

As a multi-Team shareholder, I'd like to think so as well, however, I'm not sure that's going to be the case.

It may have been mentioned upthread...although he's a willing run blocker, his size prevents him from being an effective one. Osborn is a good run blocker, and a decent enough receiver in his own right, in spite of the recent miscues, and from what I gather, that gives him the edge as on-field WR in 2 WR sets, with Addison joining when the Vikes go to 3-wide.

I think Osborn would have to get a lot worse to change, all other things being equal.

Of course, if the Vikings continue to play subpar defense, they may be situational football for the majority of snaps in a catch-up position, and if they're down 2 scores at any time, and especially later in the game, you'd think they'd be in 3 WR formations more than if they held a lead or were trailing by a TD or less.

Addison is a really fun Player to watch. Flowers, too.

Well the Vikings have shown little interest in running the ball and they are in 3 WR sets much of the time anyways. So I dont see much reason for blocking ability, which is important, for other recievers mostly to be a big reason for Osborn to outsnap Addison.

I would have to look it up but I am guessing 3 WR is already high percentage of their alignments anyways and snap counts for Addison likely increasing going forward.

Minnesota used 11 personnel on 825 snaps (73.6 percent of plays), according to Next Gen Stats. LINK Referring to 2022
So far Osborn has played on 93% of the snaps. Addison has played on 62%

Addisons snap counts increased from 56% week one to 69% week two. LINK
