WR Jordan Addison, MIN (1 Viewer)

I’m just saying people are being a bit hyperbolic in this thread and some are being a bit overly sanctimonious.
It's a bit silly.

21 years old, give me a million dollars, imma break a speed limit.

I don't get it, are people born at 56 years old?

Not the first 21 year-old to make the mistake and won't be the last. But a smart one making multiple millions books some time at one of the local racetracks and actually gets to drive his lambo for the next six months. Okay... three months. This is Minnesota.

I'm not condoning Addison's behavior. But ruggs doing 140 on a 25 mph street is way different than doing 140 on a 55mph Rd.
-signed: some guy who found out the governor on a Saturn is 105mph as a kid, but now glares at people that drive too fast down his road
When the national speed limit was lowered to, they also made the cars speedometers go no higher than 85 and highlighted the 55 indication.

I'm fine with writing this off as a young guy being stupid but perhaps we should review some of the laws surrounding this particular incident to make the punishment commensurate with the offense.

A car travelling 140 mph is significantly more dangerous than the same one travelling 80 mph.

I'd be fine if he had to spend 90 days in one of Minnesota's fine penal institutions. Maybe give him a chance to get out in 30 with good behavior. And none of this "undue hardship" delayed sentence nonsense either.

Just sent a couple of offers out for him, in the comments section I placed links to the most excellent Tracy Chapmen song Fast Car, as well as Luke Combs' solid cover, a certain Sammy Hagar tune and Judas Priest's Heading Out To The Highway. Eagerly awaiting responses.
Update: 1 was insta rejected but my would-be trading partner responded in the comments with a link to Foghat's Slow Ride. I hate him, but I respect the hell out of him.

I have to admit that I've done this and worse when I was his age. I'm not concerned from a fantasy perspective, but that sure was dumb. He's lucky to be alive. One only hopes he learned his lesson. My mom and I had a conversation years ago, where I said to her, "I don't know how you put up with me when I was young". She said, "I just wanted to keep you alive and hope you learn from your mistakes". God rest her soul. She was the wisest person I've ever known.

Austin Peay freshman Jeremiah Collins dies in single-car crash

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- A freshman football player at Austin Peay died Friday night in a single-car crash near the school's campus in Clarksville, Tennessee, officials said.
Jeremiah Collins, an 18-year-old defensive back, was driving too fast while exiting a highway and his pickup truck rolled several times before coming to rest in a grassy area, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said in a news release.
Police said there were no signs of impairment at the scene. Collins was transported to a hospital and later pronounced dead.

Sad. Incidentally, I don't know if I've ever heard of someone dying from a vehicle just rolling without hitting anything. But the blurb doesn't necessarily paint the picture clearly.

Incomplete info, like was he wearing a seat belt?

This is sad, but to be fair this story isn’t about driving too fast or racing, he got off an exit while driving too fast (likely a curving off ramp) which is more of just a misjudgment. I’ve done that before - but haven’t rolled fortunately.

It endangers people lives this kind of recklessness.

Lucky he did not kill anyone….or for that matter himself.

This is not something that should ever be taken lightly. 140MPh is insanely fast….sorry. It simply is.

Of course it is not the greatest look but crazy choices made at that age compared to a full grown adult are not the same. To play NFL football is an completely different mindset in itself compared to our everyday life, along with being thrust into being a millionaire at a young age is not the norm. I will mark this down as young and dumb and hope his track record indicates this as a blip on the radar and he truly learns from it..

While I do agree with you, I also seem to think that JSN just wouldn’t do something like this. We can chalk it up to immaturity and ignorance and youth. But it does feel like, if you’re going to be a superstar, you don’t do these kinds of things at any age.

But what the heck do I know?

I mean...

Tyreke Hill, Alvin Kamara, Joe Mixon all currently have legal situations than Addison's.
Adrian Peterson was a mega star and had a legal situation.

If you're limiting it to "future" stars...

Randy Moss was in actual jail on multiple occasions before ever getting to the NFL.

There are always exceptions.

This dog story sounds ridiculous. He said his dog was at his residence.

The citation reads, "driver stated his dog was having an emergency at his residence, and that was the reason for his speed."

If this was his statement to the police, do we really know if it was his dog that was having an emergency at his residence, or is it possible that it was his dawg?

If I'm the officer, I might ask a follow-up question, but there's no way I'm writing "dawg" in that report if there's any possibility that it was indeed Fido.

However, the dawg that wasn't in the vehicle being rushed to an emergency veterinarian at 3am somehow seems slightly more plausible.

This is worse than the time that kid in sixth grade actually tried to play it like the dog really ate his homework. Embarrassing for everybody all around.

Guy goes 140

Man this guy has character questions, what kind of person----

Police: apparently there was an emergency with his dog

Man this guy was probably lying, anyway

4 Early Risers at Vikings 2023 Training Camp

Excerpt:

This man had a tumultuous week and a half.

He was charged with reckless driving nine days ago, apologized, explained his sickly dog was the reason for speeding, and then balled out at training camp. That’s the Addison news in a nutshell.

Vikings.com’s Gabe Henderson tweeted about Addison on Wednesday, “Jordan Addison BELONGS‼️ Route running, poise & natural playmaking ability were all on display today.”
It’s safe to say Addison’s mini-reclamation tour is humming along.

Takeaways from Week 1 of Vikings Training Camp

Excerpt:

We all expected Jordan Addison to compete for the WR2 role in Minnesota when the Vikings selected him with the 23rd overall pick this spring. However, it seems that the rookie will be competing for another role on the Vikings roster this summer: punt returner. Addison was warming up with both Jalen Reagor and Thayer Thompson this week, getting reps catching punts.

During his collegiate career, Addison returned 18 punts for 219 yards, averaging 12.2 yards per return. Considering Reagor’s struggles at the spot last season, it makes sense for Minnesota to try and get better in this area during the 2023 season.
