I actually think having TY play benefits Pittman in the long run. Defenses have to plan for the speedster.

As long as Wentz doesn't go to TY that much, I agree. It's not a high volume passing offense, so any targets that go away from Pittman makes that floor lower obviously.

I will reiterate this. Needs more go and get it type plays. He clearly has the size and can win those one on one matchups with smaller DB's. He had 3 plays (1 catch and 2 defense PI's) last night where Wentz kind of just threw it up and Pittman went after it. We need more!! 

Some people aren't scared of TY being back, but personally I am. I think TY will get the deep targets over Pittman as shown last week. I think Pittman would be more of the 5-15 yard guy with TY in the lineup.

In the Texans game, this happened:

1) Taylor 90 yard run

2) Campbell 50 yard TD

3) Hilton 60 yard reception

200 yards off of 3 chunk plays, likely not to happen as much vs. decent competition.

Pittman would've gotten some of this during this game.

With no campbell, Pittman balling out in this game (drew PI's as well) he's a must-start ROS. I also bought him in a trade and this is what I'm telling myself lol

TY is definitely a threat to Pittman's targets and production outside of the RZ

Probably worth its own thread....but not even taking FF into account....I am wondering if the NFL should add spot fouls (such as PI) to the passing yards of the team OR yards against for the offending team? It is obviously a tactic that offense's use, tossing the ball downfield in the hopes for a penalty. They are such huge plays normally, that "Penalty Yards" don't seem to always show the strength or weakness of defenses. Heck a defense could PI all the way down the field and yield a 1 yd TD plunge YET their passing yards against would be minimal and look like a strong passing defense.

 
Huh, if the mods hadn't deleted that scrap I got in with Trip It Up about this, you'd see that there were some people that were plenty on his bandwagon before it started to get full. 

He's the WR1 in Indy. Full steam ahead (so long as Wentz remains playing and the starter). 

 
Must be something in the water in Indy because like with Taylor, there doesn't appear to be any good reason why he isn't getting a larger share of the workload. I mean, the point total this week was nice, but 4 targets? Without Hilton AND Campbell? The same number of targets as the great Ashton Dulin. Smh.

Given that monsoon, I was thanking my lucky stars they threw three or four deep balls to him. That's quite a bit, actually, given the circumstances. Pete Carroll wouldn't have, that's for sure. Nor would have Sean Payton. 

Just saying that it could have been much, much worse and not nearly as awesome.

He actually had 6 targets as he drew 2 pass interference flags.

 
Wentz only had 150 yards passing and 105 of it went to Pittman. So maybe that sinks in for Carson going forward. When he likes a guy, he goes to him a lot. 

 
So happy I ponied up for this dude in dynasty. I think he has all the tools to be a top tier WR, except for a long term solution at QB.

Just like with Taylor- sure, it could have been worse, but it could also have been better, that's the point. He has 7 total targets in the last 2 games, and one of those games was without TY and 1 and 3/4 was without Campbell. That's going to lead to a lot of dud FF games if it doesn't increase quite a bit.

Eh, there's a reason those don't count as targets. You'd have to go through every play and do the same for each player to make it apples to apples. Regardless, 6 targets isn't anything to write home about for a #1 WR either.

While it may help when Hilton is in the line up,it means the best CB on the D is going to cover Pittman ,he will get the most attention leaving Hilton to soak up more targets.

 
Also TY hurt again. Pittman is the guy and Carson is gaining confidence he can throw it up to him and Pittman will get it.

I'd been a bit worried about his target share and actually benched him in one place for Claypool. Very good performance today where Carson was looking for him early and often.

 
Michael Pittman caught 5-of-6 targets for 64 yards and a touchdown in the Colts' Week 9 win over the Jets. 

Pittman's touchdown was his third in five days and fourth in three weeks. Pittman's 11-yard end zone grab was initially ruled an incomplete pass after Jets S Marcus Maye knocked the ball away, but further review revealed that Pittman had indeed #CompletedTheProcess. The six looks were a disappointment after Pittman drew 15 in Week 8, but frankly a good outcome as the Colts steamrolled the Jets for 260 yards on the ground. Pittman is running hot right now and has a golden opportunity to keep it up in Week 10 against the laughable Jaguars.

Locked in as my #3WR next to Diggs and Godwin. His presence now allows me to completely ditch a #4 WR and stop wack a mole ing other WRs week to week.

Yea. I'm going against Elijah Moore so I'm already in the hole. That TD salvaged it at least. 

No idea why they don't go to him more. He's a guy I would think you'd want at least 12 targets a game to because he catches it if it's near him.

They didn't need to. Indy honestly could have run the ball every down.

Terrible gamescript and he still got 17 PPR points. I'll take it.

Wentz looks to him EVERY TIME they are in the redzone. He is the target unless it's a designed MA Cox play.

 
Agreed with the above, they didn't need him, I'm actually surprised that he got as much volume last night that he did. It was nice to see him involved early and often before the game got out of hand. Good signs moving forward.

I have a ton of Pittman and have watched their games somewhat closely so far this year. There are a ton of plays where Wentz is looking to load up for something deep in Pittman's direction but gets bumped off his timing by the pass rush before he can set up and he ends up looking another direction. It happens to all offenses but I have noticed them trying to set Pittman up more than meets the eye. FWIW.

Colts WR Michael Pittman Jr has been a beast on third down. He ranks first in the NFL in third-down catches (21) and trails only Justin Jefferson in third-down yardage (331). He's also being targeted on 33 percent of the Colts' third downs.

And if you’re watching closely, you’ll notice that he’s often well covered in these situations. Third down is where you see a lot of man coverage. But he still manages to come away with the ball. His catch percentage on third down is 72.4. That’s *impressive.*

I wouldn't say he faded. It's the Indy offense.

Wentz threw for 57 yards.

Let me repeat that. 

57 yards.

They are going to pound Taylor until they can't.

He's a tough start no doubt. @AZ I'd THINK Wentz would have to throw a bit more, but not sure I could throw Pittman in as more than an WR3.

Oh...getting thrown out didn't help tonight either.

 
He did get 5 targets tonight. Unfortunately Wentz missed him for 2 TDs over throwing and underthrowing.

While I like Pittman, the Colts really need someone like Treylon Burks, David Bell, Garrett Wilson, or Drake London.

He is good at a couple things and then throws in random, idiotic, “I’ll save us” type plays that make every game an adventure.

You will have to live with Wentz a few more years.  When he's not doing those underhanded passes and not throwing INTs in general, he's not that bad.  Besides, who are you going to replace him with?  It is evident that the Colts are weak at WR and need to select one of those 4 studs I mentioned earlier.

 
Michael Pittman caught 8-of-12 targets for 82 yards in the Colts' Week 16 win over the Cardinals.

Pittman was the Colts' clear go-to receiver, leading all receivers with 12 targets. T.Y. Hilton was a distant second with five. Pittman's only real chance to score came on a screen pass in the red zone. He took it down to the five-yard line. Wentz never looked his way in the end zone, connecting with Hilton and Dezmon Patmon instead. Still, his role within the passing offense is very valuable. Pittman will be a WR2 when he takes on the Raiders in Week 17.

On balance, seems a positive for Pittman with Wentz being traded away. 

While Wentz did feed Pittman, it was a low volume offense that could change with a new QB. And have to figure whoever comes in will continue to focus on Pittman in the passing game. 

 

The Athletic's Colton Pouncey reports that Colts WR Michael Pittman "carved up the Lions' secondary all day" on Tuesday.​

Pouncey covers the Lions for The Athletic, but Pittman jumped out among the Colts' receivers in joint practices and scrimmage. Pouncey noted that Pittman looked "terrific out there... not just in one-on-ones, but in the scrimmage portion, too." Pittman was "Ryan’s top target most of the afternoon," and made a highlight reel 40-yard play, which included a broken tackle and about 20 yards after the catch. With more consistent quarterback play, Pittman has a chance to emerge as a true fantasy WR1 this season. Drafters are optimistic, selecting him in the early-mid third round of drafts. That could ultimately look like a steal if the Colts air it out a bit more than last year, with Pittman as their clear No. 1 target.

The Indianapolis Star reports Michael Pittman has "hit it off with Matt Ryan right away."​

Under the subhead "budding superstar," beat writer Joel Erickson reports Pittman utterly dominated joint practices with the Lions and has been Ryan's "No. 1 target by far." It's not the first report that Pittman was uncoverable against the Lions this week. Despite his memorable inability to find Julio Jones for touchdowns, Ryan has made a career out of supplying WR1 seasons in fantasy.
