Yet another Pitt Bull attack (2 Viewers)

I have never went looking for dog facts/stats, but just growing up here in central Cali I know about the problems with the pit bull.  No other dog has the same negative rep.

Now somebody will try and.....no you see........I'm not going to buy it.  There is no debate that these dogs are extremely dangerous and cause a lot of problems.

I don't fear dogs, I'm a big guy who carries a serious knife, but, have looked across the street and there stands a pit eyeing me, yep....seriously concerned. Any other dog gets little attention.
my pit bull stares at my every night. Doesn't stop until I take her for a walk  . Still have both hands intact to write this post

ETA: also stares at me when she wants to go to bed and I am staying up too late. doesn't like to go to the bedroom by herself so stares at my wife and I until one of us goes to bed. No knife needed yet for either situation

She loves you.

What if I walked up?
she would likely jump on you but give you kisses. depends on your disposition when you walked up to her though. she has good instincts so if walking up with good intentions she would say hi. need to be a dog lover because she will be a pain in the ### if you aren't. and protect your nether regions, she pawed a buddy of mine about a month ago when he stopped by and hit him square in the nuts. got him good for a few minutes.

now if this was a Rottweiller thread, you may be on to something. he doesn't greet people well at all compared to her. but both together is good for both of them

Pit Bull owners are the "Veggie Burger" people of the animal world.  They desperately want people to find the benefits of their dogs.....but normal people aren't hearing any of that nonsense. Comparing Dachshunds to Pits is just dumb.  I don't mind house cats (I'm one who thinks there's little difference in the instincts/domestication between house cats and other wild species of cats).......but I'm sure as #### not going to be comfortable with someone walking around with a lynx or or cheetah.

Pitbulls performed better than dachshunds administered in tests by the ATTS.  Roughly the same success rate as Golden Retrievers.

The bolded is also dangerous thinking.  This isn’t about knowing your dog. Because every ... single ... time ... you read one of these stories of a pit bull attacking and maiming or killing someone, EVERYONE is seemingly completely surprised.  Owners, neighbors, family members.  “But she was the sweetest dog I just can’t believe this happened.”

You can’t believe this happened only because you’re a complete idiot.  It’s a pit bull.  This was a possibility every single day.  You thought you know your dog, but it’s not a person, it’s still a dog, and a wildly dangerous one if it wakes up on the wrong side of the bed and snaps.  So, this business of allowing pit bull owners to wander around in public with their dogs because they think they “know” their dog?  Total nonsense.

Let me help you pit bull owners out here: you don’t know your dog.  I know your dog.  And guess what?  It’s a liability, and could badly harm or kill another person.  And if that happens, it’s on you for being dumb enough to own it.  End of story really.
Try reading the post sober.

  this is one of the most confusing statements i have ever read, are you a magician or something?

"Gabriella asked if she could pet a dog, a pit bull. It was allegedly an emotional support animal."

I can't roll my eyes enough.  People are just so very incredibly stupid, irresponsible, and inconsiderate.
we took our pit to be a therapeutic dog and she failed the training. She was classified as "socially immature".

Yep, you’re right @DJackson10, harmelss animal this breed is. It’s all the owners, nothing to do with their dna or anything in their genetic makeup.
we have fostered pets in my house before. My pit bull would hide under a table when we fostered kittens because they hissed at her. Kittens were a few weeks old. Maybe the pit bull i own has a different genetic code

A babysitter’s boxer-pit bull mix dog killed a 6-month-old North Carolina baby boy on Tuesday after the sitter went outside to clean her car so they could go for a ride, Salisbury police said Tuesday.

Jacari Long of Lexington died after he was flown by helicopter to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, according to a police news release.

The babysitter’s dog bit Jacari after she sat the boy down in her living room and walked outside to clean the backseat of her car at about 2:20 p.m., police said in the release.

The babysitter ran back inside her home in the 700 block of Wilson Road after she heard her mother scream, police said.

Jacari was taken to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center before being flown to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, police said.

Rowan County Animal Control took custody of the dog, police said.

“Salisbury Police are still investigating and no further information will be released at this time,” according to the police news release.

On Wednesday, Jacari’s grandmother, Avnah Long of Stone Mountain, Ga., started a Go Fund Me page to raise money for his funeral and memorial/burial expenses.

“Anything left over will go to counseling for the parents as they are heavily grieving as we all are,” Avnah Long wrote.

Any large breed dog will cause carnage when they attack.  That's obvious to everyone.
Unfortunately the "outlaw" image of the pit- totally deserved or not- has become somewhat self fulfilling. I'm not sure if that is obvious to you.

For a number of years now you have the "idiots" (not all dog/pit owners) who want pits expressly BECAUSE they have that bad dog, aggressive reputation. And they do little to see to it that that behavior isn't encourage to come to fruition. Some even encourage that behavior to go along with their misplaced sense of machismo.

So, now you have a society struggling with a trust issue involving a breed that has the ability to inflict major damage should it become aggressive. And many don't care if your pit snuggles with your kitty and precious newborn. It's YOUR dog, and you know how that works.

They aren't inherently more dangerous than any other breed.  If you eradicate all pitbulls, the "idiots" will find a new breed to abuse and mistreat.  Then you guys can spend all day complaining in "Yet Another [new breed] attack".

I never said "eradicate" the pitbull. I was merely breaking down how such a harmless doggy could come to be so misunderstood. It is the "idiots" fault, not the dog's, so we can agree there.

However- they most certainly ARE inherently more dangerous than the multitude of dogs that I can kick clear across the room if one of them goes off.

For whatever reason.

C'mon people, it would have been the same result if a 10 lb. yooodle got aggravated. All dogs are the same.

Ok 7 years ago.

Look, I think dogs are generally stupid. But if my neighbors want to have a dog, I’ll take my chances with any breed over a pit bull.
There would have been more Golden Retriever attacks but DMX had issues getting enough of them for his music video.

There are 10,000 more important things you need to worry about than a type of dog.

Obligatory and customary, hope your neighbor is not a Russian mafia guy sporting a polyester jogging suit and an ovcharka.  There are way worse dog breeds than pitbull terriers, and pitbull bans are sure to trigger a rise in such breeds.  That said, I get what you are saying.  I get a little unsure around pitbulls too; by default I'm inclined to think that they were raised by d-nozzles.

Ultimately, it's a people problem, and no amount of pitbull hate will change that. Identify a-holes dog owners (about a 2 on a 10-scale degree of difficulty ... legalize pot and Presto!, we have the resources to combat bad dog owners), and take away their right to own dogs.  Many problems solved to the overwhelming majority's satisfaction.

Time to hit the hyperspace button and make my way to the PSF, or worse, the Shark Pool.

Good ol' Darwin strikes again.

“The initial investigation revealed the dogs had been quarantined at the vet clinic for observation due to a recent biting,” the news release said. “The owner had come to the clinic to feed the dogs and was outside in an exercise area when the attack occurred.”

Hey dum dums: if your stupid pit bull bites someone, don’t go play with it. Have the stupid thing put down the way you should have before you even owned it.

Idiots...

Yes, one breed (the one everyone is whining about) is abused and neglected a lot more than other large breeds (aren't whining about).
One breed was BRED to be different. And the breeding worked. And humans really ####ed them over in breeding them as they did.

Poor things.

"Pit bulls" don't honestly concern me but I have a neighbor who owns a Press Canario (maybe it's a Cane Corso) and those things are friggin' terrifying Hell Hounds. It's a gorgeous dog, truly it is, but every time I see it I can't help but think it is a murder looking for a victim. I also grab my two French Bulldogs and get the hell out of there.

This is how I approach any situation with a dog. Lets be clear I've been around dogs my whole life, I'd rather hang with my brothers dog or my cousins dog rather then most people especially when it comes to my dad's family and always cautious and courteous when seeing an unfamiliar dog in the neighborhood.

1. I walk every where or take public transit Uber so I'm very familiar with people who walk dogs.

2. If I see a person walking a dog if I can I go to the other side of the street or walk in the street keeping a safe distance especially if it's a dog/owner or both I'm not familiar with. This way the dog doesn't get shook, I'm at a safe distance and the dog has room.

3. I also don't know what the dog will do react wise or how the owner will if I'm unfamiliar. If they stop ad talk to me I will and I'll ask questions about their dog like breed, name, how old where they got them and how long. Also ask maybe about their training. I ALWAYS ASK IF I CAN PET OR PLAY WITH THE DOG. One if I reach out and the dog bites me thats on me not the owner since I never asked. The owner knows more how the dog will react to unfamiliar people then I would to it. If they say on no they aren't great around others I just say thank you for your time and walk away.

4. When my neighbors have their dog lose or escapes the house I try to help. I try to calm people unfamiliar with the animal especially new neighbors. When my Second cousins Pits use to to get out eventually most of the street knew who they were and weren't afraid of them. If y Second cousin wasn't home and I was and didn't know they get out someone would knock for me or call saying the dogs got out. I'd come out and get them as for whatever reason they always seemed to listen to me I have zero clue why to this day.

5. I have a customer at my store I use to do carts and he had a Huskey named Nicky. She unfortunately died but a very nice dog. I'd sometimes watch her when her owner went inside or other stores. He always told me if kids want to come up and pet or play with her it was ok and taught me how to introduce her to new people. He now has another husky similar who's well trained we do the something with.

6. When I'm around a dog and I see people afraid fit that I'm playing or walking it I try to educate them on the dog. Most dog owners in my area are all very nice to one another. I think out of all the ones I know so far thereby be one dog I wouldn't even go near alone or trust. When the dog owners see newer owners or say myself walking my Brothers dog they are always so friendly and educational on topics of dogs and all. Everyone seems to try and help one another.

7. Almost everyone in the area is aware of the ##### dog owners or the guy or gal who abuses the dog. It gets out there fast they aren't welcomed in our area and most will call law enforcement if needed.

Overall I agree. It's a people problem,. Most dog attacks for the most part happen because the owner is an ####### who doesn't have the animal trained well. I've had several experiences of dog attacks. I've never been attacked but have known people or seen other dogs attacked and I'd say 99.9% of those attacks I know of is do to the dog not being properly trained or the owner being a complete d-bag. Or in my friends case with his family terrible advice on how to train the dog. It's a smaller beagle dog but completely unfriendly to strangers and non immediate family. Use to have to crate him when my one buddy and I would go to his house. It got ridiculous that we all just started going to my house. I did my best to get to know the dog and my buddy accused me of not being 100% in trying to interact with him. Dude I've known multiple dogs in my life and your dog is the only one thats ever been an ####### himself with me. He also takes constructive criticism poorly so I can't even make suggestions on stuff to do to make the dog more friendly to others outside the family.

Overall my system with dogs seems to work incredible well. I think it's a 2 way dance though. Some dog attacks are because of a hole owners who shouldn't have a dog but then theres times where some ##### is the one provoking the animal and in those cases I don't care if the dog rips their balls off and lets them bleed out. If you provoke or abuse the dog and I hear ro see it you better hope the dog got to you before I do is all I will say.
