Mopey update, but I just had the ####tiest weekend in Vegas of my life. Lost everything ####### thing I did. Got two-outed twice on the river with pots totaling over 2k playing poker. Lost every sports bet I made (0-7). Sat down and lost 10 hands in a row playing blackjack. Heck, even lost the credit card roulette at the one decent dinner we did. Damn place gets depressing when you are getting pounded.
Tough beat story warning:

This summer I lost with a straight flush at Aria playing 1-2 NL - no bad beat jackpot. Felt like I was in a movie and had been set up. Needless to say I went straight to the bar and got hammered.
was the board like 5678h and you had the 4 while someone else had the 9?
BOARD: 567h

HERO: 34h

BG: 89h

Hero stabs BG in neck and rides his wife off into sunset.

Makes for bettererist story IMO

Hilton has a timeshare property behind the Flamingo that is a good place for families and close to everything. Rooms are nice and iirc, they have a nice pool. Might check it out. HGVC

Strip Hotel
Oh yeah, I stayed there once and it was pretty nice. Again though would likely require scan ride to and from conference. That can be annoying.
Where is the conference again?

MGM SIGNATURE CONDOS

Looking into lodging for Bachelor/bachelorette party in August. AirBNB has a ton of MGM Signature 2BR/3BA units that "sleep 8". They've got King bed in master suite, King bed in second bedroom, seating area off 2nd bedroom with pull out sofa, and living room area with pull out sofa. Has anyone ever slept in one of these? Would likely be sleeping 4 in there (1 guy per bed) unless someone is looking to bunk up to save cash I guess. Pricing looks very solid at $320-380/night for thurs-sunday stay.

1) How nice are these units?
2) How is access to the MGM Casino Floor / Pool Area?

3) How is strip access?

4) Any other comments?

I see they have 2BR/2BA units as well with a smaller floor pan (just basically two adjoining bedrooms w/ own baths).

Board: XX9TJs

Him: QK

Me: 78

Of course the J hit on the river.

Between that hand and the ####ty Aria sports book I hope to never return to that property.

that's brutal... there's zero chance anyone doesn't get stacked off on that hand.

at a large number of rooms that would be a golden hand with a bad beat jackpot...

Well, you were beat the entire way so it's not that bad...
Really depends on how it came down and how the action was.

if it was XX9 maybe it got checked around

picks up the 10 on the turn, drawing to a low flush, a straight, and the nuts with the 6h... who knows what the turn action is like, but most people are going to stick around with an open-ended SF draw

tough to know he was dead to the 6h

Wife and I really like MGM Signature....rooms are really nice. Love the living area, balcony, etc. Bigger room have their own kitchen, etc. It is a bit of a hike to the casino....Tower 1 is the closest, but you stil have to walk for a couple of minutes. If you are in tower 3, you might as well just head to the strip the back way. Signature has their own pools as well (2 I think) which are nice if you want any quieter time during the day. Also have access to the main pool at MGM which is a nice big area. I'd say you are not going to find anything better/nicer for that price and that you'll be happy as long as you don't need to be in a casino 30 seconds after you leave your room.

I've found in my neck of the woods it's easy to spot the users and sellers of coke but I don't recall the same thing in my few Vegas trips. Seeing the users is easy but the sellers were far less visible. Feel free to expand on this.

With 7  8  with a flush draw and an open ended straight draw, you're never folding to a turn bet........ever. In fact, depending on the stack sizes, many players would push all in.

Villain unfortunately had the nightmare hand......K  Q  .

Nothing Hero could do.....and it absolutely sucks that there isn't a bad beat jackpot.

In that case, the bad beat jackpot wouldn't apply. Bad beat jackpots are paid only if both players are playing both of their hole cards. Just like in some casinos, they have bonuses for four of a kind or better hands. For four of a kind hands, you usually have to have a pair in the hole, but it may pay as long as your "kicker" plays.

I'm not faulting him for hanging around. Just pointing out that pretty much no matter what came on the board he was beat. Still sucks massively.

Good feedback, thanks. Looking at maps/satellite, it definitely looks like a hike. Nothing ridiculous, but it's there.

In my experience there's usually not much back and forth from the room. Leave in the morning, head back at the end of the day to shower up/rest before dinner and going out for the night. In that capacity, the distance isn't a huge concern. Reported easy ability to secure cabs is a plus as well.

have looked into various other options (Vdara corner+deluxe suite.... Elara...etc) but nothing else seems to be of comparable value.

For those seeking top shelf DJ talent and trying to do bottle service, without insane table minimums... Life at SLS is putting together a pretty ridiculous DJ lineup. In addition they're promoting some very low (by vegas standards) table minimums ($500ish) as they get traction. Reports are the club is pretty slick (while the hotel rooms' decor feels somewhat cheap). If you've got a group of 5 guys looking to go, tickets will be $200 plus drinks at $20ish a pop. Were probably going to come close to hitting that $500 min spend anyway... might as well get a table out of it. For comparison, places like Light/Hakk/XS will usually have back wall table mins of $1.5-3k for big name DJs.

Not sure what the crowds will be like at Life, but generally attractive women follow the big name DJs... and the crowds usually follow the hot women.

Layout is supposed to be similar to Light over at Mandalay Bay (Tiered horseshoes of tables around DJ/dance floor with huge video wall behind DJ), minus the mezzanine level (which is my preferred spot for GA standing). It appears they've embraced the aerial performers over the crowd angle as well (though not Cirque affiliated).

sounds terrible
$30-50 cover charge is pretty standard for most major cities.

Beers at $8 and drinks at $15-20 is also pretty standard in most major city bars/clubs.

Not saying it's something I enjoy doing often.. I usually prefer more pub / dive bar environment and haven't visited a club outside Vegas in close to a decade... but in Vegas the DJ talent, opulent venue, and awesome crowd make it worth splurging once or twice a year.

But it's certainly not for everyone.

Trip Report:

1) Treasure Island was as great of a budget option as I remember.. got a really huge Tower Suite for the same price as a rack room from a nicer hotel. One of the few strip hotels with $5 blackjack and that pays 3/2 on a BJ.

The only downside to TI - I think because their hotel is built so close to the strip and I had a strip facing room, every night i could hear the police sirens and the loud motorcycles on the strip. When I go again I would definitely pick a non-strip view room because of this provided I chose the same hotel.

2) Absinthe was a really great show, but the overly dirty humor felt somewhat forced and over the top for shock value only. The acts during the show were tremendous and I was incredibly impressed they were able to put all of that together in a glorified tent.

3) Le Reve was also a fantastic show. Vegas.com got me incredible seats (3rd row) and the show was spectacular. If i had any complaint it was a bit high on the art/dance and a bit low on the feats of strength/acrobatics. My wife said she preferred "O" at the bellagio because of this. I thought they were basically equal and awesome. Ate at Wazuzu in the encore and it was really good.

4) Got the best massage I've ever gotten at the TI spa. 80 minutes of awesomeness.. i've always been a bit lukewarm on massage, but now i'm a believer.

5) Walked across the street to the Palazzo at about 1:30 PM on Saturday. There was a HUGE line of ultra hot chicks (500 deep) dressed to the 9's in club wear - lots of skin... I was shuked.. it was 1:30 PM... i've never seen these type of girls in the light before... it looked like a night club crowd.

A little asking around and a quick google search tells me that Club LAVO inside the Palazzo has this thing called "Epic SAturday Party Brunch" from 2-6 PM and has a good DJ and apparently this new "day club" concept replaces in the off-season the usual epic pool party.

I'm not sure why a group of 90-95% girls would want to goto a party with seemingly no dudes, but i could've spent hours just staring at all the talent... hot girls from every nationality... heard plenty of non-english.... I was shocked at the numbers of Euros and true Asian girls.. they practically outnumbered the regular white party girl.

Anyway... I wished they'd had something like that when i was in my 20's... but i don't know how you would get in as a dude without having like a table reservation for hundreds of dollars...

6) Rode the "High Roller" got my own pod even... cool view, not worth $70

Yeah, the brunch rave thing is a big ####### deal. It's worth just going to grab a seat to look at the line at the Pallazo on sat/sun brunch time.

I like absinthe as well. I'm sure the shock value jokes are the same everytime, but they do rotate the circus acts in and out. They've also had some crowd injuries or close calls and have toned down the acts a lot lately. If you watch espn at all you'll notice these guys are some of the ones that used to be on NBA halftimes.

It's rumored to have the highest profit margin of any show on the strip because CP signed an awful deal with them because the fountainblue went belly up, or something. The two main actors in the show are supposedly pulling down more than Elton John at the moment. The other two copycat ones folded, but may go on the road.

So, how does that work.. am i right that dudes have to buy tables?

Also.. those girls go to that from 2-6 PM.. what happens after that? No legit club is open at 6PM do they go take a nap or pork a dude, then wash up and get back up and ready to go out at 10-11PM? Do you keep it going from 2pm to 4am? even a 21 y.o. is going to have trouble with stamina on that.

The entire concept really had my head spinning.

If i wouldn't have been with my wife I could have easily spent an hour staring at the chicks in that line, but I might have felt compelled at some point to either start snapping camera pics or openly masturbating and then kicked out

Anyone been to a concert at the Chelsea? I have an offer for Cosmo that includes two tickets to Hozier in April...sounds like a GA venue with seats around the back...good sound?

I wondered about crowd injuries, actor injuries or close calls... it all seemed almost too close for comfort!

You're telling me the gazillionaire and the nerdy chick or the singing girl with the nice boobies are making hundreds of thousands or possibly over a mil a year? Whoa.

Cost?
Who knows, i'm not the type of person who let's money get in the way of any fun. What type of jerk would analyze the 20 year cost of such a purchase. I'm pretty impulse when it comes to most money decisions.

j/k

I did purchase the groupon they offer to save $60, but I think it was about $200 after tip (i got the therapeutic massage which is a step up from the swedish massage and worth it)

I think they are in the 5 to 10 mil range. He is the owner and producer and I think they are either married or divorced but still work together.

The money is insane. They have three shows a night sometimes. Might haul in 250k on a fri. Night

This thing started in LA sometime recently at the Lavo there. It's a Lavo thing. It spread to Vegas as a way to deal with the fact that the pool scene in the winter isn't strong.

We walked by the lines of several clubs the weekend we were there and the Lavo club line had 50 or more girls in it that would have been way over the level any of the girls in other clubs. In fact, I'd say it was the only group that wasn't totally overrun with flat chested asians and had mostly white girls. And hardly any dudes in site. I almost wondered if it was a girl only thing or something for a bit, but there were a few in there.

I have no idea what they do from that point. It seemed to die down by about 5pm. And by 6 it was back to normal.

The lack of dudes in Vegas is a supply/demand issue. I think the quality of the girl is dropping out there and the guys don't want to drop a rack a night just to hang with some asians that want to spend 4 hours taking selfies and drinking your grey goose. You can do that at spearmint.

Interesting.

1) I hear you about the selfies... holy crap I'm naive and live in the midwest, but i'd never seen a "selfe stick" and there were a ton of chicks with those.... super annoying

2) If the quality level of girls has dropped in Vegas then it must have been super high because there were plenty of 8's and a few 9's in this Lavo Line... and apparently Lavo was 2nd tier to the Tao dayclub

3) very interesting about the supply/demand of dudes... I did see plenty of groups of dudes.. but they seemed deeply concentrated at the sport books. I can see where dudes would really sour on paying for bottle service only to have mooches of no breasted chicks who they had zero chance of scoring with at their tables.

One of my favorite night's out was at RumJungle at Mandalay Bay. We had a bottle of Kettle One at our table and they gave us a few fancy glass bottles of water. After a few drinks my bros and I decided that if were going to get girls to our table that we didn't want them sipping our booze... so we did an elaborate transfer of the vodka into the water bottles and the water into the vodka bottle. So when chicks came to our table they were getting a refreshing Cranberry/Water while we enjoyed our overpriced Vodka. Unfortunately a couple girls ordered a shot, one of them hated it and was gagging, and she demanded our "water" FAST she grabbed the water, drank directly from the container, of course it was pure vodka. She insta-vomited everywhere and needless to say the night degraded from there.

Funny that the night would have just gotten started if it came out the other end.

:lmao:

I didn't see Tao. I can't imagine Tao was that much better than Lavo the two times I saw the dayclub scene. It was so disorienting to see that many hot women at 2 in the afternoon I didn't really get over it for awhile. And I was mostly sober at that point so it's gonna stay in the bank a lot longer.

If they were overflow from Tao then it makes some sense.

And the girls had their own little uniform for this event too, different than the 1cm below the labia mini dress you see at night. This sort of romper short thing. Super hot. This needs to catch on in real world situations.

Yeah, the brunch rave thing is a big ####### deal. It's worth just going to grab a seat to look at the line at the Pallazo on sat/sun brunch time.

Sounds a lot like Red Cup Sundays in L.A.

I'm looking to book a 3-day weekend trip to Vegas with the GF. I've only been once in the last 6 years, so I'm a little out of date on things. We're in our late 30s, prefer modern hotels (but not overly loud), going more for food/relaxation with some poker and sports betting on the side. We would prefer to stay on the Strip and don't mind springing for one of the nicer hotels. A few questions:

  • I've always stayed at Mandalay/The Hotel (like the location and the complex). Any opinions of the rebranded Delano?
  • City Center looked nice when strolling through a couple years ago, but I have no idea about any of the hotels there. Which ones are better than the others? Is it too loud/busy? I know I probably can't afford the Mandarin...
  • Any other hotels to consider? (Woz spoke well of the Hard Rock suites earlier, but I don't think I want to deal with the pool/party scene all night.)
  • Any suggestions for good restaurants off the Strip? Not opposed to going Downtown, but had a great experience in Chinatown last time and wouldn't mind venturing over there or somewhere else off the beaten path.
  • What's a good smoke-free poker room with low-limit tables? I always liked the Mirage, but I figure there are more options now.

I think you would like the Venetian/Palazzo. They have great rooms (really big), and their poker room is probably the biggest and best in Vegas right now. They have 1-2 no limit hold em tables which is pretty much the lowest

stakes you will find at any strip poker room. They are also big enough that you can probably get in a game 24 hours a day. Some of the smaller poker rooms don't always have a game going. If you are sports betting and want to watch the games, Legasse's sports bar in the Palazzo is a great place to take in a game. You can also place bets there.

I have not stayed in City Center, but my impression is it is probably the trendiest, loudest part of the strip right now. Someone who has stayed there, though, would have a much better take on it than me.

Vdara is very nice. There is no casino but the rooms are way cool and the pool is nice. Aria and Cosmopolitan are both right next door (and there is a tram to both the Bellagio and Monte Carlo). Great location, great rooms, easy access to good casinos.

Nothing too crazy but had a great dinner here with some restaurant snobs a year or two ago. Fair pricing. Fun/Tasty food. Good drinks. Nice low-lit sexy vibe, so good place to take your woman.

Anybody been during March Madness? some buddies and I are going on the 3/27 weekend. which sportsbook is the best to watch all the action?

Highly recommend this place too. It's awesome.

I'd also suggest Lotus of Siam for Thai. It's a huge local staple where people lineup outside the door prior to opening at 5:00 PM. Regarded as one of the best Thai restaurants in the world.

I've been there numerous times for march madness.

Simply put, the sports books are slammed. Your best bet is to get a group there early (like 6 AM) and just park yourselves. For books, Caesars is huge and the Hilton's sports book is actually really good. Otherwise, I can't really suggest too many over others. Personally, I also go to Rio because drinks are free. I'd stay away from MGM (book is tiny).

Emeril's Stadium is great but it's really expensive.

Yep. I also wouldn't call any of the city center places "loud". They're all very nice.

Thursday is the absolute worst. It eases up just a bit on Friday. Not so bad on Saturday, and Sunday is no problem, most gone by then.

It'll be hard to find a seat in a book. Most of them have viewing parties where they charge outrageous fees (goes up every year). The LVH is still free, and they open up their theatre.

good stuff guys, thanks. this is my first visit to Vegas so I'm not planning on spending all my time at a sportsbook. I might try to get a seat for a 2-hour block of games and place a few bets.

About 10 years ago I was in Vegas and we flew out Thursday afternoon the day march madness started.

We were at Mandalay Bay

I knew the tip offs were like 9 am Vegas time.

I set the alarm for 8 am thinking I would really beat the rush.. i had a bet decided on to make and my buddy and I were really going to soak it in.

LOL.

The line for the sportsbook was 250 deep at 8:05 AM and there wasn't a seat available.

We thought it must be an abberation, maybe MB was having a sick promotion.. so we went to 2 other books that morning with the same exact result.

Then my buddy was just pissed I woke him up for a long walk to get pwned. The idea of having to get up at 5-6 am and sit in a sportsbook 2-3 hours before just getting to see some #2 seed bomb a #15 seed just has zero appeal.

Agree with the others here on the opening week of March Madness... I was out there a couple years ago at that time and there was no chance of getting a seat in the sports books to watch the games. The lines at most of the sports books, however, move relatively quickly so you can at least get your bets in.

But if you want to actually watch the games, just go to a bar with a bunch of TVs and you'll be fine.

Looking back, I'd usually go play poker at places with poker rooms right by the sports book (Mandalay bay, Caesars, mgm). Take a quick break to place bets, still be around the excitement, not craning to view tvs, and gambling whil gambling.

I go every year for March Madness. We will be there the same weekend as you.

Last year we parked ourselves at the Quad for the games. The Sportsbook there isn't the greatest, but it wasn't crowded and we could play blackjack and see all the games. We had a great time.

Most sportsbooks will be absolutely packed. If you are a big bettor, go the night before, place your bets for the next day, and ask them to reserve you a spot. This works well at the Venetian for football sunday, but I'm not sure what the minimum will be for a reserved spot for March Madness (I'd guess around $1,000).

Anyone have thoughts on these places?

Going with my wife and 2 kids (3.5 and 1.5) at the end of March. She is there for a conference, Mon/Tue/Wed. We likely will go Saturday - Thursday or something. Had initially thought we would spend a few days in Vegas, then a few days in Zion. Thinking now we might just stay in Vegas and do some day trips instead.

I will be hanging with the two little dudes when the wife is in the conference. Doing some Vegas stuff but also hanging in the house, so looking for something that works for that. Her work is paying for most of it (she works for the city of St Paul, so they won't go nuts on the price though).

the only location i could determine with certainty is the third one. It's in a pretty good location on Sahara (I can point you to a few decent restaurants around there, too).

Which hotel is her work stuff at?

On the second and third weekend of March Madness, the books are less crazy, but still very hard to find a seat. The LINQ/Quad is a good spot - tons of TVs around the casino outside of the book. Tilted Kilt is right by there too with seemingly hundreds of TVs.

I used to do the days of get-to-the-sportsbook really early just to save a few bucks on drinks, but now it's not worth it. Since you're not there on first weekend, there won't be 10 games on at one time, so it's not a big deal to go to a bar/restaurant with only 3 or 4 TVs.
