00's Mixtape Draft (1 Viewer)

Alright, a pick way too early for this crowd here, and I'm sure I'll get ridiculed mercilessly here for it, but I think it's one of the great pop songs of the past decade, and really separated this man from the boy bands and set him on a path to superstardom. With all respects to several artists who have not been drafted yet (so I refuse to spotlight) he's the closest thing we have in the entertainment business to Michael Jackson (the early 80's pop star, not the creepy older child molester):

I realize my picks are all incredibly "pop" right now. That will eventually change . . . most of the stuff on my list that wasn't a huge pop hit is most likely nowhere near anyone else's radar. We'll see.

wow *and* a gomez song. apparently the board woke up this morning and said, "TODAY IS BRITPOP DAY."

excellent track. hard to hate anything with a beastie boys sample in it.

Lump Sum - Bon Iver 3:21

Hopeless - The Wrens 5:08

"Hopeless" was one of the first tunes I penciled in for my mix. Really hits the spot.

Absolutely love the crazed passion in this song. I think most can relate his state of mind in this song . . . it's happened to all of us at least once.

ETA: There's a better version of this video out there that's a more literal interpretation of the lyrics as opposed to just a performance video. Couldn't find it quickly on teh Youtubes though.

One of the best concerts I saw in the 00s was these guys in a tiny pub in my hometown. This song has great potential as a mix closer (even though it opens up their album). They have a couple songs I'd consider but this one is a bit shorter and according to my itunes, my most played.

8.06 - Plants and Animals - Bye Bye Bye (3:38)

Valerie is a cover of a Zutons song. I like the original better.
hypothetical question: Is the Zutons version still eligible?
That is a hell of a question. By the rules, I would have to say yes it is.
I think past mixtape drafts have operated under the "once one version's taken, all others are off the board" rule, but that never made much sense to me. I'd say it's still eligible.
I agree with Abrantes.

Yeah a cover version by a different artist is okay by me. One version by the original artist = all other versions by that artist are gone.
