00's Mixtape Draft (1 Viewer)

Listened to Abrantes, DHouse and JML mixes today - great stuff. A combination of tunes I liked and some new stuff I hadn't heard before - just what I was looking for.

The only song that had me :fishing: was Feuer Frei by Rammstein. Granted I don't like a ton of metal, but that song made me want to jump out of the window and kill myself.

I'll get mine done either tomorrow night or Sunday, at the latest. I won't be home at all on Saturday, pretty much.

Haven't gotten a chance to listen to any of the mixes yet either.

Thanks for tracking the uploaded mixes JML. I'm presently d/ling Abrantes' mix while listening to my own. Mix Fail note: according to iTunes I didn't include any songs in my mix from the years 2003-2005.

WTF - I am getting warnings while I am trying to change the file names to put them in order. Da hell am I doing wrong ??Something about changing a file extention?
bump
 Change the folder settings so the file extensions aren't visible, maybe? You might be cutting out the .mp3 (or whatever) at the end when you change the song name. No clue.
Got it fixed, thanks. My mix is uploading now...

here's mine. enjoy.

val's superawesome 00s draft mixtape.

Going to see Alice in Chains tonight. I haven't heard the new album but should be fun nonetheless.

megaupload was easier for me. I zipped the folder and then multi file uploaded

Tried to put my mix in ipod and 6 songs that I burned to computer today did not go onto ipod. Did anyone DL mine and did this happen to you

Not sure why

Due to Acer's late round spurt of great picks I had to augment and rearrange my Supplemental Onlooker's List/ I couldn't foramt all of the songs to be in order in the file so here's the order.

1. Welcome to Jamrock - Damien "Jr Gong" Marley

2. Mr. Misery - The Aggrolites

3. Born To Die - Leftover Crack

4. Immigrants and Hipocrites - Star ####### Hipsters

5. East Coast Rising - INDK

6. Waste Of Time - The Unseen

7. Fools Gold - Mouthwash

8. Catch a Fire - Damien "Jr Gong" Marley

9. Wake Up - Time Armstrong

10. Acid Raindrops - People Under the Stairs

11. Best of You (Live Acoustic) - Foo Fighters

12. Fail Hard To Regain - Two Gallants

13. Beautiful World - Colin Hay

14. Desire - Pharoah Monch

15. If I Should Fall From the Grace Of God - The Scotch Greens

16. Legend Of Finn MacCumhail - Dropkick Murphys

17. Tomorrow Comes a Day Too Soon (Acoustic) - Flogging Molly

18. Johnny Appleseed - Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros

19. Less and Less - Tim O'Brien

20. Eli, the Barrow Boy - The Decemberists

21. Despite What You've Been Told - Two Gallants

22. Sub-Domestic - The Constantines

23. Hey Baby - Stephen Marley feat. Mos Def

24. Landed - Ben Folds

25. One Step Behind - The Briggs

26. The Likes Of You - Flogging Molly

27. Caterwaul - ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail Of Dead

28. Play Your Cards Right - Common

Still surprised that Two Gallants wasn't taken by anyone. If you haven't heard them, check them out. I'd be very surprised if a good chunk of you didn't like them after a listen.

I wasn't kidding at the beginning of the draft when I said that most of my 00s music came from artists on Hellcat Records; ten of my picks are from there or can be traced there.

Other than the few songs that didn't go through, which all did on later individual links, I've had no trouble with anyone's list nor to putting them on an iPod.

Hope I don't have a lot of work this weekend. Between the Super Bowl, UFC 109 and these mixes, I'll have my hands full.

So say I wanted to check out some of these bands but aren't sure I want to do so by buying a bunch of new music I don't know if I'll like. I've long used Limewire for such activities, which has resulted in many purchases, what other avenues are there for this that you guys can recommend?

Eephus actually has the least 1 stars for me so far. That Sun Kil Moon song is outstanding.
Agreed on the SKM. But the whole first 2/3 bordered on unlistenable for me.
thanks for listening and sticking with it. I seriously considered going completely pop in my mix because I think eras are defined by what's playing on the radio and blaring from cars and second floor windows, but I didn't want to lose what little hoofcred I have on a mix with Kelly Clarkson, Craig David and Robin Thicke.

Thanks T Tank, that was enjoyable and I heard some bands that I might check out more of now.
:ptts: I'll be checking out other mixes starting out tomorrow. This is going to be a very unproductive weekend. Videogames + sports + music. Not leaving the house.

You'll need to start getting into torrents for that. Then you'll need an invite to a place like What.CD or Waffles, or even Demonoid, which I'm sure many of us could hook you up with. I think most of the guys here are Waffles members, and I'm a What user. They're private sites with, er, large catalogues of music available for distribution via torrents. If you want any help setting all of this up let me know and I'll make myself available. I'm sure there's a guide buried somewhere around the FFA though.Barring that, Zune Pass is actually a fantastic service that I recommend to almost everyone who doesn't want to torrent their music. You pay $15 a month and get unlimited access to the Zune catalogue of music, which is pretty extensive. I suggest it because there's a free 14 day trial you could use to check out the music from this draft. Not sure if you'll have any use for the service past that, but it should get you what you need for the time being without any cost. Totally not sure if you need to cancel before the 14th day to avoid a charge, so be careful of that if you try it.

I can also provide anything you want to hear more of from my own mixes and I'm sure others can do the same.

William Duvall, the new singer for AiC was pretty fantastic I must say. Listening to him sight unseen, it would be hard to tell the difference in his voice and Laynes. Obviously, there will never be another Layne Staley, but this guy is a vocalist chameleon.

Their new stuff was ok, but listening to their old stuff in Seattle was kind of surreal. The encore was "Would" and "Rooster". Just perfect.

I can cross "seeing a 90s grunge band in Seattle" off my life list.

I just bundled my mp3s into a zip folder and stuck the appropriate # in front of each title. The mix works better without cross fading between tracks, so don't use itunes to play.

Introducing "son of pop"

PS Could someone please confirm that this works?

edited and corrected :football: to add that all important link :bag:

Too many people are posting direct links.

Could someone more paranoid than me please explain why we shouldn't do that?

Listened to Abrantes and a little of ahrn

I like the Man Man songs and exploding heads

on ahrn, I liked The thermals song

I DLd my max of 4 - Postrad, T.Tank, Ahrns, and DHouse. I'll post comments later after I injest them, but wanted to give props to Ahrn and Tank for making it easy to plop these in the ipod. Wish I was smart enough to retitle all the songs and album titles, etc...

Can't wait to listen to the mixes.

Why only 4.

NVOnly one song opened when I put it in the rar. Did this happen to anyone else
It worked okay for me on my home computer (I uploaded it from my work computer) if anyone else has problems, let me know.
fixed but not in order
I edited all the tags. If you sort by album are they in order?
Have to wait til I get home to check. No worries, appreciate the effort

I think "Cry Me A River" from Prof S's mix may be my favorite new song from the three mixes I listened to so far.

My fave from Abrantes is the Secret Machines song, and from Postradamus is "Familjen - Det Snurrar I Min Skalle"

Good stuff.

Despite his boy band roots, it's undeniable JT's got major talent. Like I said before, he's the closest thing we've got to Michael Jackson in entertainment today. On top of that, he's proven to be a good comedian in his stints on SNL and hosting the ESPY's. :mancrush:
