Great defense by the Tar Heels tonight. Congrats on the win.

Man, I really enjoy this rivalry.
Yea...not much like it anywhere else in any sport for me...But still feels like I came home from a good day of work where everything went well...to find my dog dead in my driveway...after a loss to UNC...
I feel your pain, dude. I'm happy for Carolina winning tonight, but it's with a heavy heart. We're going to have to put our dog down tomorrow after having him for 15 years. I've been bummed all night.
:sadbanana:

Sorry dude, that's rough.
Wow, that's ####### horrible. Sorry man. God bless.
Thanks... I'm not gonna lie, I've had tears in my eyes all night. Spending the last night with him is really really rough... Sorry for putting a damper on the huge win for Carolina tonight.
Family members are a million more times important than a game.
Absolutely.

Thanks. It is rough. He's got a huge tumor on his leg that has come open. We've tried to treat it, but it's not getting any better. He's in pain and we don't want him to suffer anymore.
I hear you... We had a lab who was only 8.5 when he got cancer & had to be put down - it's been over a year and a half since we put him down, but I still remember the feeling.

Go hang with your dog. GL.
Thanks. That's what I'm about to do...

Our furry family hold special places in our hearts. I'm sorry about your furry friend. You and your buddy are lucky to have had 15 great years together. Maybe you can slip him a special snack tonight. :banned: to a great life and being loved. GB.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Let's be honest. Duke is the better team this year. But they ducked a date at UNC because of snow, even though a women's team made it there from Pittsburgh. They deserved to lose tonight. Thrilled by it.
Duke deserved to lose? I don't share your opinion. Those roads were horrible, and Duke's bus couldn't reach them. Nobody had any business driving on those icy and snow covered roads.

Thank you. :) We gave him some extra treats tonight. He deserved them.

Are you 13 years old?

I hate the Duke/UNC game.

I mean, I always watch it. Its fun. But, I always end up rooting against Duke, which means, well... I can't even say it. :X

I feel so dirty afterwards.

I think if there was one play last night that finally turned the tide in the 2nd half it was the Tokoto dunk. Even though Carolina didn't get the lead until a few minutes later, that seemed to fuel Carolina even more on the defensive end. I thought the Heels effort on the defensive end last night was very impressive. I don't know if McDonald will have another game like he did last night, but at least for one night he stepped up in a big way.

A couple of things I didn't understand from Duke's side last night. One was what the heck was the weave being used so much by Coach K? That was doing absolutely nothing for them. Also, I don't know why Dawkins didn't play more. He missed his three shots from beyond the arc, but I think he would have eventually made some shots.

Big win for UNC last night and they're a lock now to make the tourney. First team since the 60s to beat the AP Preseason #1, #2, #3 and #4 teams.

One of the best defensive efforts I've seen from a Carolina team in a long time. Duke wasn't sure of what to do with the zone and just kept jacking up 3s for no reason. That stretch where it felt like it was 53-49 for forever is what did Duke in. Carolina wasn't making shots, but Duke couldn't do anything to capitalize and let Carolina hang around.

McDonald was the reason we were hanging around in the 1st half. Paige and McAdoo had a combined 4pts at the half. Then like he's been doing all season, Paige turned it on in the 2nd half and took over. A great performance from him when we needed it most.

As for Duke, please let Parker go pro. Dude is a beast. Duke got away from him in the 2nd half and that played a big role in them falling apart.

Storming the court. :lmao:
The internet fun police have been out in force with their hot sports takes on this one. Nothing like adults lecturing a bunch kids having a once in a lifetime experience so the adults can feel smug about it. Good to see that there was only one or two posters bringing that kind of stupidity here.

This Duke team still looks like a contender to me. The Heels played some great defense but Duke missed a lot of open looks too. As long as they get that 2 seed you have to think they can go three games without a similar lapse and get to a Final Four- I know there haven't been many such lapses this season.

Caught up on everything.

1. Grady - my sincere condolences

2. Obviously enjoyed the effort. Nice to see this team turn it around this season. Still have a limited ceiling, but (as mentioned), I think Roy is turning in one of his better coaching efforts. I think you could compare it to some of the jobs Gary Williams did with his lesser teams.

3. Really did think Plumlee was going to be the deciding factor in the game for a while, and his long-term potential is rising. Though I don't see him getting more than 5-8 minutes a game next year.

4. Confused why Dawkins was stuck to the bench when no one else could hit anything. He seems like the guy most likely to get on a hot streak and he never had a chance. Also kept looking for Matt Jones to come in and take a turn on Paige defensively, if just to give Hood a break on the defensive end.

5. The Duke beat writer for the N&O tweeted that you could hear K yelling in the locker room through the walls. Then he looked so defeated in the post-game press conference, saying team was tired, did not have "it", etc. If a team is playing their rival, in front of that crowd, while also competing for post-season seeding, that has to be troubling statement. K himself basically called Thursday-Saturday a Final Four test run and the players apparently didn't respond.

I'm just glad that UNC responded. While I know that Syracuse has already replaced Maryland as Duke's main rival. It's nice to know the Heels remain the first 2 seed. ;) But I admit that I'm looking forward to Saturday night. Hard to believe one of those teams will come out on a 2-game losing streak.

Rick Reilly is firmly anti-court storming. If you want to be on the same side of an issue as Rick Reilly, go ahead.

UNC sometimes storms the court against Duke, and it dates back to the 8 points in 17 seconds game. Off the top of my head, I remember 1992 upset of defending NCAA champs, the 2005 Marvin Williams putback and last night. There's probably more.

Only non-Duke one I can recall is the 93 comeback against FSU (down 21 with about 11 minutes left). I was there but didn't go the court, but the noise level right after the Lynch steal and slam was the loudest I ever remember.

I can't ever end up pulling for either team. I hate it because it absolutely ruins sports talk radio for at least the next day, if not a couple more after that. Based on what I saw on the court last night K got out coached and the Duke kids didn't seem to have any fire to them. They look completely lost and dumbfounded when Roy sprung this new fangled zone thing on them and their response was to stand around. It felt like it was 53-49 for an hour and a half. In the end, UNC successfully defended the three and actually made their foul shots (sans Huebert).

NMYMND,

To your #4, I was wondering the exact same thing. It made absolutely NO sense.

As for "court storming"....I think as a general rule it's stupid, but it's nothing to get bent out of shape over. The "act like you've been there" shtick is just as dumb regardless of who's saying it when.

People act like the kids doing it are the same as the adults who've seen two national titles in the last decade and countless Duke wins.

Most of those kids will see one and only one home win over Duke during their time at UNC- Duke won the last two, and it's not like you can just walk up to the gates with a student ID and get a seat anyway. It was literally a once in a lifetime experience for them. I feel bad for people who don't understand how much fun those kids had last night and how rushing the floor was an expression of that.

Court storming is ridiculous 90% of the time it happens. Last night was one of those times. It's unc for god sakes.

That 53-49 stretch is what did Duke in IMO. They didn't know what to do with the zone and instead of attacking it, just kept throwing up 3s that weren't going in. Makes me wonder how they'll react to Cuse's zone on Saturday.

Well, that's the thing. They faced zone just a few days back, but watching them last night, it looked like this was the first they'd ever seen one.

For those of you that had the option to watch the game either on ESPN or on Raycom, which did you choose and why.

I'll hang-up and listen before weighing in.

Court storming is ridiculous 0% of the time it happens. It's kids having fun celebrating the sport and not hurting anyone. Everyone wins- kids love it and smug killjoy adults on the internet have something to complain about so they can feel better about themselves.

Seriously, the only thing that college game has over the pro game is the passionate fans, especially the students, who care so deeply about a game like this. It's what makes the stakes so high- otherwise it's just minor league basketball. If you can't appreciate that and understand that storming the court is an expression of it, why the hell are you bothering to watch Jabari Parker vs Marcus Paige when you could have been watching Kevin Durant vs LeBron James?

ESPN. Love listening to Jay Bilas.
I hate when they put Bilas and Dukie V together....it's the worst catch-22 ever created.
I actually don't mind Vitale. Sure he loves his Dukies, but he is knowledgable and passionate about the game. Give me someone like him over the boring and mundane Troy Aikman, Phil Simms or most analysts except Bilas. I'd listen to Bilas commentate a game of Chess.

Why does it matter that it was UNC?
Because they're a blue blood program with multiple titles, several within the last decade.

Call me a smug killjoy if you want. I really don't care. And it is dangerous. There have been major injuries (I believe there was a hs player out west that was paralyzed)

You realize that it wasn't the Rams Club storming the court, right? Those kids were probably in junior high the last time a UNC team played a Final Four . I can't imagine more than a handful of them had even seen a UNC home win over Duke in person. And although I hate to call you out for not having attended the school you root for, I have to wonder if maybe you don't get it because you've never been to a UNC-Duke game in person as a student. It's totally different from the feeling of an adult sitting at home or at a bar watching the game on TV.

Sorry, but you're just wrong here- as the fact that Rick Reilly and Seth Davis agree with you demonstrates pretty conclusively. And yeah, I'm sure someone's been hurt at some point. If you look you can find cases where people have been hurt doing pretty much anything if it happens enough. It's perfectly safe and harmless.

Is this mocking shtick for the little fit that K threw over the storming in Tallahassee? I hope :oldunsure:

I agree it's dangerous, but I'm glad these kids haven't bought into the "they should be above it" blue blood snootiness, and they enjoyed the thrill of knocking off a rival, and celebrating with each other on the court. It will probably be banned one of these days, but it's a nice college memory for these kids.

can i take the in-between? though i'm closer to TF's 0% to the 90%

I had a long response typed up but it's pointless. We won't agree on this and that's fine. Congrats on the win

I'll take it.

0% was probably unfair. I suppose if 40 year old men who'd seen multiple national titles as fans ever stormed the court, that would be kind of silly. Or if, hypothetically speaking, one of the nation's best programs stormed the court one year removed from an appearance in Final Four after a home win over Virginia Tech ;)

Sean Dockery FTW!
:lmao:

I mocked that example, but that's really what it's all about. A bunch of kids so excited about what they just watched- whether because of the result or in that case because of how it went down- that they run out on the floor to dance around with their classmates. Love to see it.

if you've ever crammed into a Cameron bench-row, standing up during the entire game-play, after having camped out for who-knows-how-long, you'd understand why there is an emotional, cathartic release when your team gets a big win, or wins in an amazing fashion.

this was especially true in the years before Cameron got air conditioning.

i say rush away; just be extra-careful about safety, particularly player safety. Wake Forest is the place that always spooked me with how they rush the court.

Not that they needed further reasons last night, but also worth remembering that many of those kids had been planning and drinking and getting psyched for hours in anticipation of what would have definitely been the craziest night in Dean Dome history 8 days ago, only to find out a couple hours before tip that the game was postponed. I'm sure they've been chomping at the bit since then.

Well, I'm much closer to being one of those kids than I am to being in the Ram's Club so I'm not really sure your criticism holds much water.

For one, storming the court acknowledges that you are the inferior team. If UNC wants to do that, then so be it. Kind of like chanting overrated at a team you just beat. In my eyes, it devalues your victory.

Beyond that, in times of dwindling student attendance, I think its rich that somehow this is an indication of the passion in college sports. Let's call it what it is, drunk kids just want to celebrate. They don't care what it is they are celebrating.

This is blasphemous... There is no circumstance in which I could root for UNC.
