2016 New York Jets: Kotite-like (2 Viewers)

Revis has become a slouch giving little effort out there. The cushion he gives to WRs is bad enough, but the lack of effort on tackling at times is atrocious.  What will he blame this week? Maybe he had too much starch in his Sat night meal.

From early on in his career I always said If I was an opposing a team with Revis at CB I'd run the ball at his side all day... Not that he was always a bad tackler but, he did give his all and hang his body out to dry at times vs much bigger opponents... I think at this point coming off injury and getting older he feels like 1 time laying it all out could be the last.

When he got hurt years ago vs Miami I kinda saw that coming - At that point he was one of the few making tackles at all, laying it out there in bad games.

So much bad going on right now, I don't even have time for Revis hate any more tho - I wouldn't have brought him back but, It's the rest of the team that should be much better and helping him out.

This is why you don't spend on older vets tho when you should be in Rebuild mode - Last year was such a paper tiger year IMO it set the whole thing back where you Still need a CB and still need a QB among everything else....

Totally agree. I used to think Revis would eventually make a smooth transition to safety for a year or 2 at the end. But with the way he's tackling now? No freaking chance.

Pryor was absolutely murdering him yesterday.

As a guy who has obviously played the "maximizing his earnings" game for his entire career, I think its very possible that Revis has just had enough. He was able to scratch a few extra mil a year during his prime years (through the holdouts and big 1 year deals) and when you add it all up, that extra income probably means he doesn't need to hang on like other guys have just to bank a little more $$.

I know that very few people care about IDP, but anyone with Jets insight see the game yesterday and know what happened to Sheldon Richardson?  Guy had strung together a handful of really good starts and then put up 0 yesterday.    I didn't see anything about him on any injury report prior to the game.   Did he get hurt or just have a bad game...?

TIA

He played well. Just didn't get stats.

The Jets just find the absolute best way to lose games. Offsides on a kickoff? If the season wasn't over a month ago I'm pretty sure I would have thrown the remote through the glass of my 75 gallon aquarium after that one. But as it stands, I obviously don't care.

Some more absolutely abysmal throws by Fitzpatrick and Bowles has already said he's starting again next week.

And oh yeah....apparently Muhammad Wilkerson is now a discipline problem.

It's over for 2016. You start Petty for the 1st half of games and Hackenberg in the 2nd half the rest of the year and find out if you have an NFL QB. Bowles is too dumb to come up with something like that.

I wonder if the Jets have buyer's remorse with Wilkerson. He wasn't even available to talk after the game.

If you get the big money, you have to be big enough to talk to the media after games. Wilkerson has bailed on that multiple times this season. He will now be 0 for 6 in helping his teams qualify for the postseason.

The other coach too. Big moron team battle next Sunday between the Rams and Jets. Each team's fans will be rooting for the starting QB to exit the game with an injury. Nothing too serious. I mean, we are not horrible people here.

It's now officially over....so here comes the debate on tanking.  A few years ago Rex won 2 meaningless games down the stretch and it cost them a shot at Mariotta.....They can't make the same mistake.

I know any professional team is not going to actually tank but they MUST start the youngsters at QB and any other position they need players to develop....it develops players and puts a high probability on finishing higher in the draft.....if Petty/Hack go crazy and win a few games at least you know there may be a QB of the future around so it's not as bad.....One more start of Fitz is a detriment to future in multiple ways.  Based on Bowles post game he is being stubborn on this.....if he doesnt get into development mode he should go ASAP......it's a lost season....dont make it worse by winning 3-4 more meaningless games finishing out of the top 10.

Yeah that was the type of loss which would have ruined my Monday under normal circumstances, but I actually felt some relief that this loss would allow the brain trust to realize the season was over and it was time to evaluate Petty.

Apparently not.

Actually starting Fitz the rest of the way may just be the way to tank properly. ;)

But obviously I agree that we need to evaluate Petty and Hack and see what happens.

Tom Coughlin had already moved on to Eli Manning at about this juncture of the season in 2004 and the Giants were still in the playoff race. But this is the Jets. Stuff is rarely done correctly.

Start Petty already although I don't know if it's better to tank with or without Fitz.  Some people call him a gunslinger, but he's got to be the dumbest Harvard grad ever. I guess he didn't learn anything from his monkey poo slings into the endzone back in KC. What the hell is he thinking when he just throws it to the defense in the end zone? Someone should check him for a lifelong concussion.

I watched the kick-off yesterday, I immediately view one of my other 4 tvs. I look back and Miami is returning another kick for a td. What happened? Arggh, only the Jets could be offsides on a kick-off. Unreal.

Wilk and Richardson. Two dummies. We already knew that Richardson wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed. Wilk, too?

So apparently Wilkerson was suspended over missing birthday cake. ####### birthday cake!!!?!?!!?

This franchise. I swear to god. Belichek wouldn't even let birthday cake in the building but bowles is suspending people over it.

I think it was more from missing the walkthrough.

If Bowles doesnt start Petty this week I honestly think he should go.....this entire facade of not giving up until eliminated by math is ridiculous....any idiot can see its over....I have 5...thats right 5 firggin paid for season tix home games left....let me see the kids play!

Great news today

Looks like Fitz is starting

Mo Wilk benched for missing meetings including his own friggin birthday party lol

Sheldon benched for missing mtgs - sometimes with Wilk - great....Jets couldnt even get a late 1st rder for Sheldon at the deadline from the Cowboys...

what a disaster

It looks like Bowles is really going to start Fitz....his quotes illustrated he has no clue as to any positive to see Petty play....I'm sure that will change at some point but what a disaster

I'd have to guess that a Jets win with Fitz playing mistake-free means he'll continue to start. A loss and they'll use the bye to get Petty ready to start. Problem is if the team wins and Fitz is ok but nothing spectacular, he may continue to be rolled out there.

I think you are correct....but really what does a win at this point mean?  especially a win with a QB who wont be on the roster next year at the expense of more tape on a young QB....im telling you now this is going to drop the Jets big in the draft and cost them an extended look at Petty....I get the coaches only care about winning but someone in that franchise has to give a crap about the long term outlook....

I am feeling like this thread is becoming my therapy.....moved on to a new phase of depression - hopelessness!

I sat through 3 hrs of something that resembled football....starting Petty gave an initial surge of interest but watching him play within the scaled down handcuff conservative offense was horrific....the coaching staff acted like they had a playoff spot on the line and tried to eke out a win any way possible rather than just let the kid play.  If that's how they handle the rest of the year whats the point...

I'm slowly moving to what most fans are going to gravitate to - which is apathy...that is what owners fear and is the dagger for most coaches....you can have passionate fans venting on losses but when fans dont care thats when owners make a move...the fact that there are so many 3 home night prime time games for the awful product to be displayed and quiet jet fans overrun with visiting fans is the only hope that Woody will make a change.

I know the argument that you cant have a rotating door at HC....but these are exceptional circumstances. Bowles has been completely exposed this year as outmatched and the wrong coach for this team and market.  Rex is one extreme with Bowles being the polar opposite....can they can someone on the middle that can inspire and coach?  Not to mention memo to the franchise - it's an offensive league now....the 20 yrs of defensive coaches and picking a defensive player in the 1st rd has to end....Bowles and his staff have lost the team and fan base...Mac gets another chance but its time to pull the plug.

As for future - any stars or avob e average talent to be excited or build around?  Revis just about admitted he's done with one more yr left and a ton of $....Wilkerson is the new poster boy not to overpay talent....Richardson while an elite talent is a mess and will be lucky to net a 2d rder when they dump him in the offseason....Lee is undersized, exposed and they dont even let him cover big time TEs which is why they drafted him....Pryor looks like another 1st rd whiff....Williams is the only one to build around on the D.

Offense is worse....Forte, Marshall and Decker are all over the hill and should not be part of the future or immediate plans....MAngold has what 2 yrs left?  Love the guy but it may be time to trade him and get some value before he hangs em up.....OL is a complete disaster...WRs looks average..Devin Smith another long line of 2d rd busts...and speaking of 2d rd busts...when the QB you draft in the 2d rd isnt even in the conversation to start a game in a lost season - looks like another bust to me.....Petty will get a shot but if they keep the handcuffs on whats the point....if they even talk about going back to Fitz the coaches access key should be turned off....

I know in the NFL you can rebuild quick....I've been saying for a while instead of win now crap they should be concentrating on building for 2-3 yrs so when Brady finally retires they can make a real run....stop the half measures PSL crap.  Develop the kids and give them a real chance with a legit gameplan not handcuff crap....blow out all the 29+ yr olds for the best deals they can get....and find a QB...play Petty...I even play Hack last 2 games..if he stinks so what at least you have an idea.

More to say but rant over - would love to see some silver lining or positive stuff so please jump in!

Lol. We're so bad they just flexed the Patriots game out of prime time.

Yesterday was unwatchable. The game plan was way too conservative and it seems like a few vets (mainly Marshall) have mailed it on.

Hard to put any blame on petty. need to see more .  like others, I've seen enough of Bowles. he's in over his head and needs to go

Yeah, Bowles Seems to suck.

I really thought Bowles was good from what I heard and read. He is appearing to not be a good head coach. I will never again make any predictions about unproven head coaches. You just never know.

I am not sure if Bowles would survive a 4-12 season. If they can him, I think bringing somebody dynamic would have to occur.

Not a Jets fan, but I was out on Bowles as soon as he doubled down a couple days later on that decision to punt a few weeks back.

It's bizarre - when he was Cards DC he was innovative, confident and super aggressive - would make adjustments on the fly and send all kinds of pressure at the QB while getting many turnovers...players were inspired and would run through a wall for him....we've seen none of that with the Jets....

its amazing isn't it?

man, so freakin depressing

Bye over.....big decision this week....if Bowles goes with Fitz it will be mind boggling and show he's coaching scared.....there is zero upside in starting Fitz and it's time to work in the rest of the youth to give everyone some valuable experience.  Experience and a high draft pick are the only positives to this train wreck of a season....

Bowles has lost me....local radio keeps saying he gets another year...Im not so sure...its been that bad.  Jets have a ton of home games down the stretch..if it gets as ugly as I think I can see Woody pull the plug....not sure who would be available but prior coaching experience and offensive bkrd big plus for me....also early draft reports show not a good year for franchise QBs....great.

It's official - Bowles needs to be fired today....

Ryan Fitzpatrick has been named the Jets' Week 12 starter at quarterback.
"He's healthy," coach Todd Bowles enthusiastically said. "He's been our starter. ... We can do more things with him. I don't give away jobs." The reality is, Fitz wouldn't be starting against the Patriots if either Bryce Petty or Christian Hackenberg had done anything positive on the practice field. Fitz has been a perpetual-turnover machine, but Gang Green has rightly surmised he gives the team its best chance of not getting completely embarrassed. Fitz will be a passable low-end QB2 against the Pats' leaky defense.

This is where a competent GM/owner has to step in but it seems they dont have either...

this is not in the best future of the franchise...there is no chance Fitz is involved in the future of this team....every snap not given to players that may or may not be involved in the future is an absolute waste....it also hurts the draft position big time....you'd think someone would have learned after they won those 2 meaningless games 2 yrs ago and missed out on Mariotta.

this reeks of Woody not wanting to be humiliated the next few games as there are 2 prime time games coming up....this is why the Jets are a joke and will always be....this is an awful run franchise from the top down....I am more disgusted than I can ever remember.

I think they have a Thursday Night and Saturday Night game still on the schedule.
think its Mon pm vs the Colts and Sat pm vs Fins.....regardless it shouldnt matter.....time to nuke it and rebuild...this is one of the worst decisions I've seen in Jet history and that is saying something.

It wasn't like Petty looked overmatched. Even if he will never be a franchise type QB the team must at least see if he's a capable backup QB at the NFL level, so that when they bring in Romo or Cutler (and trust me they will) and they inevitably get hurt or stink they'll at least know that Petty can step in and be competent.

Totally agreed - but it's more than that.....it's what smart teams do when it's not their year....Indy had a bad year when Peyton got hurt....they made darn sure playing every young player on the roster in order to give them experience and have the best chance at a top pick...just happened to get them Luck.

You never know what you have until the QB gets real game experience...Boomer has talked about for years how the light just comes on.....practice is not the same....you invested draft picks and development time into both Petty and Hack....if you dont trust them to play out the string in a lost season with no pressure to win what does it say about your drafting?

If Petty does not get a chance to play well, then the Jets getting Tony Romo is an easy sell for Woody Johnson.

The Jets cannot take a chance of Petty looking good. Don't you people understand how the Jets work?

If they trade for romo I'm driving down the road to woody Johnsons house (it's like 10 minutes away) and taking a #### in the mailbox every week next season.

Drink your prune juice because it's happening. As Dr. O said, I think it's even money that it's going to be Romo or Cutler next year. There's not going to be a franchise QB for them ub the draft and they are not going to turn the keys over to Petty or Hack.

So Sad....

Just pathetically sad... Overall New Regime IMO should come in year 1 as evaluators and not sign old vets, throw the kids in there and evaluate.

People thought 2014 was such a train wreck BUT, I was ok with Idzik because he was actually rebuilding and slashing cap... The Rex thing was played wrong but, ppl were correct in that the HC was sandbagged..... (they just lose their mind if you hint that the QB was sandbagged too)

Looking back now I worry that Rex is a much better coach than Bowles...  They competed with less talent - Had more confidence in that Defense and Rex schemes than now.. I looked at 2014 knowing the Jets had a project QB taking his lumps and one of the least talented Rosters in the NFL..

These ppl came in, Spent the money Bought Revis, added weapons, paid Mo, PAID FITZ, threw away the young QB, failed to find any other QB.

Idizks Drafts like the History of Jets drafts were questionable.... But, I believed in idziks overall Long term plan over what we have now.

By Spending on old Vets and hitching to a journeyman QB, these ppl wasted any honeymoon period and will have to perform a miracle now to be competitive next year or 2018 before before the Banners and Pitchforks come out again.

One Caveat is that a lot of contracts right now can still be shed.... But, in year 3 with little progress and basically starting over - they need to hit all Home Runs.

What I find strange about Bowles' comment about not just giving out starting jobs is that the opposite approach than what he's taking - making Petty and Hack battle it out - is the same thing from just a different angle. One of these guys will by default be the starter, even if only for a brief period of time before they bring in someone else. Who says you have to anoint either as the starter? You can announce it as an open competition for the rest of the year. Best man wins. Go.
