2021 Las Vegas Raiders - PLAYOFFS!!!! (3 Viewers)

I'm sorry you guys are going thru this, been a very trying year so far and yet you all are in the thick of the Division and the Playoff race, that might not be the thing you are focused on today/tonight though.

I posted some thoughts in the Ruggs thread
It is challenging to continue to be a Raider fan even though I don’t expect much after losing for decades at a time.  Losing Gruden was a gift from the heavens.   Ruggs certainly erased hope for this season but the future is still bright for the Raiders.  Ruggs can be replaced.   He deserves to be in prison.  He killed someone!   It disgusts me that he would make such a horrible decision.   Drink and drive.  Drive too fast. During a game week.  No excuses.

I wonder what the deal is with him. Gotta be something wrong.

Same thing that was wrong in Dallas- misses the assignments, gets blocked out of the play, can’t cover well, but is a great tackler 6-15 yards down field. He was a liability on the field, hence the great improvement in the Cowboys defense since he was cut. On the positive side he was a superb teammate, a very nice guy and I guess you could say he loves to celebrate his dance moves after chasing guys down for a tackle (many yards later 🤷🏼‍♂️). It only took Green Bay two games to see what it took Dallas a year and a half to realize.

The Raiders get to deal with unbelievable #### weekly it seems.

The Chiefs otoh don't have to face Aaron Rodgers.

That's life.

It`s not like the Raiders lost a teammate to a torn ACL or some other season ending injury ,they have to deal with the emotional rollercoaster of what has happened . Things like this arent ''just part of the game'' ,this is real life devastation. The emotional toll while absorbing all the details and ramifications  of such a horrific accident ,knowing a friend ,not just a teammate ,literally killed another young person in a fiery crash has to carry over for a game or 2 . I will be waiting to see the energy level of the team leading up to Sundays game  , I'm guessing they lose this game , i hope I'm wrong of course .Id love to see them rise to the occasion like they did after the Gruden stunner . This game will give the team a true gut check .

The GambleTron 2000 is telling me to start Derek Carr over Tannehill and also to slot in Hunter Renfrow this week, but all this drama is making question that opinion.

You are 100% right. It's one thing to have a coach get fired, a star player tear an ACL, happens all the time. The difference is no one dies in those instances.  This tragedy took a very dark and sad turn. Two lives were lost, the young woman had her dog with her, and Ruggs' life is lost short term with a long road ahead for recovery for himself and his family.

If there is one small positive to come out of this horrible tragedy it's that it brings to light a very serious problem in our country that is being overlooked. Social justice issues are in the forefront right now (as they should be) but the DUI epidemic in this country hasn't gotten much better even with the rise of Uber and Lyft services. Hopefully everyone is on notice now.

156mph

.16 bac

loaded gun in the car.
If all true (source?), he is done. He won't get 2 years.

So sad.... it tears me up that young men make these monumentally horrible decisions that derail their lives. I mean, there are thugs that ruin their lives but Ruggs is a good kid that has made several absolutely horrendous decisions that has lead to the death of a young lady and screwed up his life promise. I hope he recovers from this and prospers, just like I hope for the Raiders.

So screwed up.

Jackson should clear waivers.

Beckham looks to be about to be waived from the Browns.

Bisaccia mentioned our PS players and then "others" when asked in press conference.

FA LB Marquel Lee signed.

QB Nathan Peterman and WR Marcell Ateman signed to the practice squad (Sorry to those of you waiting for K. Doss to return).
T Dan Skipper released from the practice squad.

Raiders have 2 open spots on the roster still.

Wims and Stoner mentioned by name during Bisaccia in the presser.   Unsure if either will be promoted.  May go into the game on Sunday with just the 3 WRs on the roster.

didn't lee play in the last game?

doss :lmao:

f'ing goaterman hangs on......

didn't lee play in the last game?

According to Profootballreference.com he sure did.  He has seen the field in week 2 and week 7.   In week 7, he only played special teams and did not register any time at LBer.

I assume he was a FA as he may have maxed out the number of times he could revert back to the PS.

I thought Lee was already on active roster... damn, I mean, I keep a pretty good eye on the Raider roster but my head is spinning these days on all the release, sign to PS, sign to roster, promote to roster, returned to PS, etc.

I knew Peterman would be added to PS after clearing.

This does not help me feel sorry for Ruggs.
yea, i don't feel sorry for him at all.  this was all preventable.

i do have some sympathy for him and how badly he has ####ed up his life.  i can't imagine what's going through his mind as he sits in jail.

more importantly, i feel sorry for the innocent victim.

The thing about emotional trauma (aside from the fact that everyone responds differently) is that throwing yourself into your work is a common response while trying to process the trauma.

The Giants game is a complete unknown. Nothing from a 0-50 loss to a 50-0 win would surprise me.

What I do know is of the d-line shows up on Sunday, I wouldn't want to be Daniel Jones.

I don't think anyone is asking you to.

But that doesn't mean you can't empathize with him. Or at least say "There, but for the Grace of God, go I".

Unless, that is, you have never made horribly stupid decisions that could have resulted in someone getting hurt. In which case I sincerely applaud you.

I absolutely feel sorry for Ruggs.

I cannot even imagine how it must feel to process the gravity of his actions.

I personally hate that, as a society we have decided that the entirety of a person's existence has been reduced to their very worst moment. The book on Rugg's life has not been finished.

As a young kid /man i drove many times impaired ,its what we did to get from one party to another or bar ,seemed normal back then (the 1980`s) ,but one thing i never did was drive fast . I drove nice and slow ,in my opinion its the speed that increases the odds of dying or killing in a car. Of course being drunk or buzzed or stoned bad things can happen, but its almost the difference between throwing a bullet at someone or shooting it from a gun (im sure this opinion wont go over big). Thank god i never hurt anyone  and i havent drank in over 30 years ,and i still dont speed because again, impaired or not speed kills.

Ruggs learned the hardest way possible that decisions have consequences ,he destroyed a whole bunch of lives in one fatal decision....shoulda coulda woulda

Hate the act, not the man. I wish for the victim's family and friends to find similar peace in their hearts toward Ruggs. Way easier said from my position, than done from theirs, I realize. Still wish it for them, anyway.

Its all about contrition . I had a dear friend killed by a drunk driver .He barreled thru a stop sign and broadsided her ,she was killed on impact . He was speeding thru a neighborhood hammered and had a bunch of buddies in the back of his pickup truck. The police showed up and ushered the guy away as they knew him ,he was never charged with a DUI or vehicular homicide . He basically got off with nothing but a speeding ticket and running a stop sign, if i remember correctly  . Problem was he was walking around bragging how he got away with it, he didnt care one bit about the girl he killed and her friends and family that buried her at the age of 23. A person like that is the scum of the earth ,not because he did something horribly dumb, but because he didnt care . I would have forgiven him had he truly felt remorse for his actions . I cant imagine someone like Ruggs wont feel bottom of the barrel contrition for years to come .

Do you know how easy it is to go 100 mph in that vehicle? Your foot slips off the brake and your doing 90 in a blink.  If he was driving a 1996 Ford Escort we wouldn't be having this discussion. Which is part of the issue.

It’s the cars fault!

You are right.  Let’s get this kid out of jail and forget it ever happened.

I made a similar comment to my neighbour tonight.  I've been driving for 25+ years, in a variety of situations, vehicles and (weather) conditions.  IMO a brand new corvette is simply too much car for a young inexperienced sober driver.   Add in driving under the influence and that is a terrible situation.

Don't be like that, you know very well I wasn't suggesting any such thing.

Think about your very worst moment that was entirely on you. Is that the only lens you should be viewed through for the rest of your life?

No one is suggesting letting Ruggs walk free, hell no one is suggesting he should get a minimum sentence, no one is beating the drum for him to play again. Some of us just recognize the stupidities we have committed in our own lives and how lucky we were not to have done something equally horrific.

It makes us empathetic.

That's a silly argument. He would have been red lining in any vehicle.

If it was a Ford Escort he would still have been speeding but may have had more time to avoid this tragedy.

Still wouldn't absolve the original mistake.

Hes a good guy that made a life altering decision ,and a bad really bad one at that

I doubt he was so overwhelmed by the car that he mistakenly hit 156, Fellas.

It was on purpose and with as much knowledge as a 0.16 mind can muster.

Apparently we almost had a deal to bring Fletcher Cox in per Adam Schefter....

Schefter explained why a deal likely fell through during his radio hit:

"Fletcher Cox was receiving interest around the league, there were teams calling about Fletcher Cox. And I think the team that really had an interest in him was the Las Vegas Raiders. I think what happened is, when Von Miller got traded on Monday for a [second-round pick] and a [third-round pick], I think that emboldened the Eagles to ask for even more. 'Hey, if Von Miller's worth a two and a three, even though the Broncos paid the majority of his salary, well Fletcher Cox has got to be worth something similar.' Right? And I think the Von Miller deal perhaps impacted any potential Fletcher Cox deal, to the point where it didn't get done."

Sorry, I didn't want to sound like I was defending him. No way do I condone anything that happened. The point I was trying to make is that woman and her dog may have survived if he was not enabled to drive at such a high rate of speed. Nothing makes his actions any more accountable.

Damn donkeys

I was taken aback by Carr's initial statements about Ruggs and saying that he needs love right now. I don't think I could bring myself to say what Carr said but I felt he showed great leadership in a very trying moment and time especially after watching his head coach resign recently. Carr has risen to the challenges so far and his best days may still be ahead of him.

FTR I don't think you were defending him.

Just that he would have been redlining any car he was driving. Maybe people would not have died if he was in a Fiesta but that would never had been the case, it would have been a high end BMW or some kind of luxury SUV.

Ditto.

My comments on the car were only related to the comparison of a new corvette vs that of 'normal' every day vehicle.  I did not mean to represent anything remotely close to excusing Ruggs or his decision to drive at that rate of speed, and/or drive impaired.

DJax officially on waivers today.

From @AlbertBreer (Twitter):

Ex-Rams WR DeSean Jackson is on waivers today.  Any team claiming him would add $1.53 million in base salary to its payroll (and be responsible for the remaining per-game roster bonuses).
He'll be awarded to claiming team, or clear waivers, after 4 ET.

Raiders have an est. $3.45M in salary cap room currently.

Interesting but…

I think the Raiders see what they have this weekend before making a move. Waller, Renfrow, Edwards, Zay Jones, Moreau, Drake should be "fine" IMO. Especially considering how Carr loves to spread the ball around (besides occasions of laser focus on Waller) and doesn’t really focus on a "stud WR". (Not that we have one really besides Waller at TE).

That's completely in line with Carr, I would expect nothing less. Carr is very open about his faith, seems to just be a pretty sweet guy all around.

I'm ignoring this story because right after stuff like this happens, everyone jostles to make sure we all know how bothered and disgusted THEY are by this whole thing.

A whole bunch of good people have put themselves behind the wheel when they should not have, myself included. Indefensible, and dumb. Not malicious. I have the ability to be angry at Ruggs for ending someone else's life with his stupidity, and have a great deal of empathy for the fact that he just ruined his life. I have done plenty of dumb #### in my life, and I was lucky I never hurt anyone else. DUI, throw the book at them. Make people scared to drive drunk. I'm in for all of that.

Anyone questions why I might have empathy for a Ruggs, well they can just #### right off.

Excellent post, sincerely mass.

I especially love the part where you show your distaste for virtue signaling by virtue signaling your distaste for virtue signaling.  That's some next level moral superiority right there. ;)

Hey Mass, I'd like to add myself to that dumb list you speak of. I don't need to detail the stories but right there with you that this kind of thing could have easily happen to me at certain points in my life.

I'm impressed that a lot of folks are not putting themselves too far up from this event and being honest that by the grace of god they're lucky this story didn't happen to them.

I'm getting a real soft spot for the Raiders this year.

@Capellawas talking about how he wished he hadn't seen the details about the accident and I was also feeling mighty low yesterday but I can promise you if you see some pics of Ruggs and his girlfriend at topFlight Golf or whatever its called, they look just like a lot of 21-22-23 year olds I know, my son is 22 now and I can't imagine what it must be like to be a parent and have a child commit a heinous act like this and still have to try and love them thru this ordeal.

-I'm just saying for gawds sake whoever you hold dear to your heart even if they don't always feel the same towards you, get out there and tell them how much you love them and you're willing to move forward, whatever the family/friends dilemma might be. And if you're lucky like I am and you have even 1 or 2 family members that love you unconditionally, for goodness sake reciprocate.

I've been behind the wheel in my life when I shouldn't have, I'm no saint. I just didn't have this event happen in the same night fortunately for me, family and everyone who might have been on the road that night. Ruggs is going to pay for his horrific mistake and I bet he accepts it and will show contrition in court, and I also am betting he does the right thing while he is behind bars and saves future athletes from going the same way life has taken him. He's still here and he could eventually impact others and I hope that's what God has planned for him.

ZAY JONESWR, LAS VEGAS RAIDERS

The Athletic's Tashan Reed said Zay Jones "presumably" will replace Henry Ruggs as the Raiders' "Z" receiver.

Ruggs was waived by Vegas this week while facing a felony charge for driving under the influence in a collision resulting in the death of a 23-year-old woman. Jones, as of today, is one of three wideouts on the Vegas roster. The team is expected to make a depth signing before their Week 9 game against the Giants. Playing 21 percent of the Raiders' offensive snaps this year, Jones has made a few splash plays -- including a game-winning touchdown in Week 1 -- averaging 19.2 yards on seven receptions. Jones profiles as a boom-or-bust WR4/5 in Week 9 against the Giants.

WR Dillon Stoner has been signed to the active roster.
LB Javin White has been signed to the practice squad.
