2022-2023 NBA Salary Cap Draft - First Annual Battle for the Wikkid Cup (3 Viewers)

Was looking at all these guys (wanted Durant) other than Ball because I hate him.

I could go one of two ways here, but instead I'm going to go a third way and select

1.13 - PG Dejounte Murray, ATL - $16,571,120

What are our league scoring parameters? I've combed most of the thread and can't find it.
Can someone please give me a scoring format. I'm looking up "standard" scoring and seeing a lot of different results. I've only played in 1 fantasy basketball league in my life.

The league scores is just for funsies, I think. We are voting on best teams.
That was also my understanding.

Yes, the fantasy league will be for fun. We’ll use it to track stats and seed our postseason voting.

8 category leagues use points, rebounds, assists, 3s made, blocks, assists, FG%, FT%

wait, this is one of those vote leagues? ugh

The last handful of picks have really surprised me. This might be my favorite NBA draft we've ever done so far. The differences in philosophy are making this so much more interesting.
Yeah, I figured this would open up for a bunch of different approaches. It’ll be interesting to see how everyone’s teams fill out.

The next nerd level is if we make this a keeper league in the future where next year salaries come into play. Ja and Zion, for example are cheap this year but get huge pay increases for 23-24.

You can treat it like the fantasy league part is the most important ranking if you want.

I thought there was more of a fantasy component to this thing.

I can work around Harden, but will definitely have to switch gears for my second pick.

It's all for fun really.

It’s still early if you decide this isn’t the draft for you. Let me know before we go any further.

Turn that frown upside down.

Things to keep in mind when thinking about how much money to leave for the bottom part of your rosters.

There are only 7 players making $1M (rookie minimum deals).

There are 29 players with under $1.6M (2 per team on average).

It’s probably best to leave around $2.0M per player for your bottom feeders - there are 83 players at $2.0M or less (5 or 6 per team if you wanted that many).

Keep an eye on your average $ left on the team list tab as we go further.

This is probably a poor idea as it makes the rest of my draft a giant PITA, but I'm going to do it anyways.

1.15 Steph Curry
2.1 Lebron James

Back to @Jayrod
This will be fun to see how you’re able to fill your team. You’re remaking 13 players will need to average $4.4M salary.
Yeah. My planning last night made me think I would go fairly cheap at the turn and use that excess space on the 3rd and 4th player. A lot (but not all) of those options got picked earlier than I excepted. Looked at some other pairings slightly more modestly priced, but ultimately decided to go with two of the greatest players of all time as the gamble.

I do this in my auction FF drafts all the time. I get two really expensive players early and then sip my bourbon while I'm outbid for the next half hour

To be fair, if this is anything like a normal NBA rotation, rounds 11-15 I won't say are meaningless, but are much less valuable in terms of getting players who will actually contribute.

Plus Buddy Boeheim is only 500k.

Injuries will be an issue and I think that those players in the 11-15 range will be more important to us than real life teams

Buddy is under a two-way contract. Not draftable unless he gets a big boy deal.

What's our plan when someone runs out of money and can't draft enough players?

We’ll have to keep an eye on the average remaining numbers. If they go below $2M too early we might have to make them repick.

I mentioned in the OP that players can be traded during or after the draft, as long as teams stay below the salary cap. So if a team needs to clear up some space that way they can.

can we attach draft picks in a deal to someone if they assume a bad contract?

I’d prefer not trading picks, just players. But you guys can let me know what you want. I’d like to keep it as simple as possible.
