NBA took momentum that was going mach speed and let all the air out of it. The game schedule sucks. No excitement at all. Even if it was 1-1… all these days between games are a total bore.
Yup.

When they are traveling between cities fine, but 3 days in between games when they aren’t is moronic.
Game 2 was in Boston.
Game 3 is in Dallas

There was a 3 day gap between G1 and 2. Glad we're getting back to normal in Dallas with only 2 days rest.

That's right. 3 day gap between both 1 and 2 and 2 and 3. Good catch

You know what is a really dumb? The whole, well team A just held serve on their homecourt, we aren't worried...

Home teams that have gone up 2-0 have a 92.5% series win percentage in the playoffs. You really gotta win won of the first two
Yea this series is almost definitely over.

+/- scores for Celtics F's and C's vs. theie last 6 games against the Mavs.

Tatum +98 in 238 minutes
Brown +70 in 212 minutes
Horford +62 in 175 minutes
Porzingis +39 in 73 minutes
Hauser +36 in 85 minutes
Tillman +13 in 15 minutes
Brissett +3 in 6 minutes
Kornet -1 in 26 minutes

If KP can't go, it really should not make a huge difference. Yeah, I get it, stats from the past don't matter, "this is a different Mavs team!", the tide will turn now that the venue has shifted to Dallas, the Mavs have the best player in the series, etc. All those could turn out to be true, but the Celtics offensive style of play and commitment to playing defense have remained consistent across all those games.

On the KP injury front, he's listed as questionable. Comparisons have been made to Curt Schilling having a similar injury in the Red Sox World Series run. Maybe they will rule Porzingis out soon, but for now, they may be considering playing him based on whatever treatment he is getting and how he looks in warmups.

One thing analysts touch on but dance around is Luka's net effect when you factor in his defense.

Nearly the entire Celtics offensive game plan is centered upon taking Luka off the dribble after drawing Gafford/Lively to the 3 pt line. And it is highly effective. If he doesn't improve his defense, without him scoring 40+ and/or Kyrie adding in 30, not sure how Dallas can win. Tatum can also go nuclear at any point as well.

The video clips are brutal. He gets blown by nearly every single time he has any of Tatum, Brown, Holliday

Game 2 saw Tatum have the most drives into the paint in a single game across his 623-game career. Brown had the 2nd most drives into the paint out of his 661 career games played. That led to a lot of clanked layups or kick outs for wide open spot up threes that the Celtics just didn't make (IIRC, 34 of them). Anyone remotely thinking the Mavs defense is fine and not a major issue is not paying attention. Boston players are getting by Luka without much effort (and many times without screens). On top of that, the Mavs defensively have been trying to hide Kyrie on the back line under the basket (which also hasn't worked . . . Holiday was scoring at will from a foot from the basket). I would not be surprised if Tatum went for 35+, Boston hit 20+ threes, and with a lot more shots falling, that Boston will score into the 130s in Game 3.

As far as KP goes, he was seen entering practice this afternoon dressed to practice without any sort of brace on, no limp, no change is his gait, no anything. Shams echoed what I mentioned earlier . . . that they will check him again in pre-game warmups with the hope that he will play.

Edit to add: another thing I forgot to mention, the media's narrative was Boston won three playoff series at full health (not even mentioning KP being out) playing against opponents with key injuries. No one even mentioned Porzingis when he was out. Now we get to the Finals, and suddenly KP is the most important player for Boston in the series . . . and some people have wondered if Boston could still win without him. OK, media talking heads, hoops analysts, and so-called experts . . . which is it? How was he mostly irrelevant for over a month, but suddenly the world would be knocked off its access should the C's not have him (and his 20-22 minutes a game)?

Also, it has since come out that Porzingis participated in afternoon practice, FWIW.

How rare is Celtics Kristaps Porzingis’ ankle injury?
There has only been 32 documented cases in the world according to this 2006 study.
The injury is a traumatic dislocation of the posterior tibial tendon. Super rare!

He's a regular medical marvel
Or one of 32 other big babies that have an owie that most of the world would just shrug off and continue on with their lives

and most of the time it's so bad it looks like he just doesn't even care

it looks like he's a coach at light practice just letting dudes run by him

I liked following Luka's stats/highlights more than watching him play. Exceptionally lazy and it's not fun to watch his entire game.

Porzingis is out tonight
I got a hearty chuckle watching some highlights of practice / the afternoon shoot around. Kornet was spotting up all around the three point line practicing his outside shot. If Mazzulla can scheme up wide open looks for the Green Kornet and he makes some, he will jump even higher on my coaching rankings. Forgot to mention that I also laughed at a new nickname someone gave to Tatum, which apparently stuck . . . Big Deuce.

Porzingis is a big loss. Dude stretches the court and defends the rim like no other big. Sadly he spends 60% of his career in the operating room.

Even so I think DAL looks done. I predicted DAL would lose games 1 and 2, then bounce back with Kyrie taking on more of the load. But I don't see it at this point. DAL looks tired and their role players aren't ready for prime time. The entire BOS team looks more locked in than ever. And the matchups are a nightmare for DAL. BOS has several guys that can make Doncik work really hard on offense. They can hold him to 30 with 1 guy on him. Someone else on DAL is gonna have to get very hot from 3 for them to have any chance.

I think Dallas wins tonight. No reason, just my gut. They come out hot, go up double digits early and then fend off a late rally by Boston and win by 4 or 5.

This is kind of where I am at. The other side I see is Boston goes nuclear from 3 just to show they don't need KP.

Porzingis injury might cause the Celtics to bear down and play their best game instead of easing off the gas and letting the Mavs take one

I think I'm coming around on Coach Joe

Not just on the court but off the court as well

He's been having a really strong year IMO. The ball movement on offense and defensive schemes have been high level. It's one thing to have the players, but another to have the buy in.

Thinking back to his mistakes last year compared to the Pacers series this year and I see some growth. Not getting enough credit for the awesome run the Celtics are on.
