Value WRs ( $12 or less is the arbitrary line I’m drawing since I like a few of the $13+ WRs)

this is a tough group this year imo. Guys that are ending up on and off my rosters over the first few thousand iterations are:
$3 M Wilson , $3 Tank Dell, $4 Hyatt are my favorite super-cheap guys.

Hate the $5 guys.

$6 Metchie (if he’s actually healthy), $7 Pierce, $7 Shaheed are interesting to me in this range

$8 Van Jefferson, $9 Doubs, $9 Osborn, $10 Flowers also end up in iterations of my roster.

Don’t really like any of the $11 guys.

$12 Sutton (with or without Jeudy injury?) has been on many iterations of my roster, and $12 Lazard and $12 M Thomas catch my eye in this range as well.

thoughts from others? Love? Hate? DND? or Must Include In Every Iteration?
For the $12 group:

Sutton is on my DND list. He's not an alpha WR, he's not a WR1. Last pre-season, I compared him to MVS.
M Thomas is very intriguing. He might be the best value on the board at $12 or under, but can he stay healthy?
Sutton has burned me in this contest the last two years and I swore "never again". Now he's cheap and Jeudy is hurt and I'm wondering if this is the year he isn't a total waste.
Waldman had a good blurb about him in his From the Gut article. "lackluster route runner with hands issues ..."

The first row is Sutton, the second is MVS. Both have been in the league for 5 years.
I realize Sutton missed most of 2020 but MVS has only played in 11 more games and left some early due to injury. Sutton was also a WR1 and MVS was a WR3 for most of that time. Both have similar below average catch rates and TD/per game rates. Why am I showing this data? Because is this what you want from a WR1 or even a WR2? And after 5 seasons, what you see is what you get.

I fear I don’t have as many high end players as I’d like, but I also feel that’s been my problem in past years - putting too much into high end guys who fail me when I need them the most.

It’s ok though - Terry McClauren & Jerry Jeudy should carry me this year. I’ve got a really good feeling about them.

Here's Courtland Sutton's stat line last year from my database through week 12, when my team was eliminated. He did ok the first few weeks but then mostly disappeared for 4 weeks (including his week 9 bye) before showing up again in weeks 11 and 12. I agree that last year he did not justify his $19 cap.

I clearly went with budget receivers last year, because Courtland Sutton was my most expensive WR, and I used his scores in 6 weeks, more than any of my other receivers (I was eliminated in week 10).

I think I'm locked in at 22, barring injury (or retirements, I had Corey Davis in several of my first iterations, haha!). But there is still almost 2 weeks until the contest starts, so I'm probably going to overthink and keep tinkering.

2 QBs - $28
7 RBs - $87
6 WRs - $84
3 TEs - $34
2 PK - $8
2 TD - #9
Spending hours to tweak only to end up with a tiny variation - Priceless

I've had Kamara and Warren on my iterations for some time now as upside plays but I don't think I'm ok with Kamara as my RB2. Merging these two nets me a Mixon, Gibbs, Najee type which seems like a better play. Decisions, decisions. This of course means whichever RB2 I settle on will blow a knee in week 4.

I really like Kamara. But the 3 week suspension plus J.Williams and Kendre Miller gives me pause. Miller looks like the real deal.

Haven't touched mine in 3 days. Did come up with an alternate for a few in case of injuries, but I think I'm sending up the white flag. My job here is done.

Good luck to everyone still wracking their brain.

Of course. What do you take me for, a n00b?

Now I just need Matt Ryan to pay off & I’m golden.

I keep finding ways to have all 3 of these cheap WRs on my team…

WR - Jalin Hyatt - NYG/13 - $4
WR - Tank Dell - HOU/7 - $3
WR - Michael Wilson - ARI/14 - $3

i mean, they’re no Corey Davis, but I’ll take my chances.

Just went through another total WR rejiggering. That’s the toughest nut for me to crack.
And just committed to 2 $4 K and 2 $4 D instead of 3x$3. That extra 2 bucks gave me the wiggle room I needed to make the latest contest-winning upgrade!

ETA: 2/5/6/3/2/2
According to Draft Dominator projections, none of the $4 Ds score more points than the two best $3 Ds, so you may want to save $2 more by dropping down there.

Well guys... I think it's about to get really crazy this weekend. Since the NFL did away with mulitiple mandatory cut-downs in favor of a single cut-down to 53 players by Tuesday at 4pm, lots of teams are still carrying more players than usual this late in the pre-season. Tons of people will be cut over the next few days and it's going to look like musical chairs with quite a few players getting pink slips... and a few moving to new teams that are shopping to fill their roster weaknesses.

So don't hold your breath that your last roster iteration is really - your last roster iteration.

I have 22 currently on my roster and $3 left in my pocket, waiting for stuff to start hitting the fan...
Hoping nothing major happens that screws up my current roster.

Keenan Allen or Calvin Ridley? Asking for a friend.
Ridley... between age, injuries, and a rookie 1st round pick I feel Allen's downside risk profile is greater than Ridley's. And even if Keenan stays healthy the whole season with his 5-8 catches per game, I still think it's a coin-flip as to whether Ridley outproduces him.

Came up with a new idea and it's growing on me
2 QB - $34
4 RB - $87
5 WR - $73
3 TE - $38
3 PK - $9
3 TD - $9

I'm liking the idea of spending more for a lesser number of RBs. High risk, high reward.

Keenan Allen or Calvin Ridley? Asking for a friend.
May as well play devil's advocate after the first 2 replies. Keenan Allen may have lost a step, but he truly never had one. All he does is take up space and hog targets. At 9.83 targets per game over the last 3 seasons, only Kupp, Adams, and Diggs have a higher number.

I know it's become customary to list your team like this, but why post it if you aren't going to list the actual players?
No stealing! I have no idea. Probably will if I still like it tomorrow.

You didn't get the secret e-mail that said prices would drop for 16 seconds?

@TheWinz I've got $16 left for K and D... so that's a $4 and $3 K, and two $3 D.... which position do I spend the last $3 on? I'm thinking regardless of the scoring variance, I have to go with a 3rd K because there's more likelihood of someone getting injured or cut, whereas with a D at least I know they'll be on the field no matter what (except byes). But leaving that aside, based on your past analysis of scoring variance/outcomes, which is likely to yield more points... a 3rd cheap K or a 3rd cheap D?

Finally got back from vacation and starting to tinker. I have a few iterations with 20-25 players, but for the moment I'm looking at going for an 18-man stud roster:

QB - Patrick Mahomes - KC/10 - $25
QB - Derek Carr - NO/11 - $11
RB - Christian McCaffrey - SF/9 - $34
RB - Nick Chubb - CLE/5 - $30
RB - Tony Pollard - DAL/7 - $29
WR - Ja'Marr Chase - CIN/7 - $36
WR - Chris Olave - NO/11 - $27
WR - Jayden Reed - GB/6 - $7
WR - Braxton Berrios - MIA/10 - $3
WR - Michael Wilson - ARI/14 - $3
TE - Darren Waller - NYG/13 - $17
TE - Luke Musgrave - GB/6 - $6
TE - Jake Ferguson - DAL/7 - $6
PK - Cameron Dicker - LAC/5 - $4
PK - Anders Carlson - GB/6 - $3
PK - Brett Maher - DEN/9 - $3
TD - Detroit Lions - DET/9 - $3
TD - Los Angeles Chargers - LAC/5 - $3

Also considering taking a 0 at QB in week 10 on the assumption that Mahomes will beat out Carr every other week... Carr was the cheapest starter with a good-looking matchup that week and has a good playoff projected SOS, but might be more important to have that $11 elsewhere and just roll the dice on surviving week 10 (and Mahomes not missing any other games). Last year Carr beat Mahomes 3 weeks (by 2, 5, and 7 points), and put up a whopping 4-point performance on Mahomes bye... so 18 points total gained over the course of the season. Obviously this year could be different, but seriously considering just taking the 0.

Main other thing I don't like is two studs on bye week 7, but at least it's relatively early with 6 teams on bye that week... and one of my flex dart throws (Ferguson) also on bye that week.

Of course, this will all change, it's just where I'm at right now.

You said it yourself - entire D's never get cut or injured, so take a 3rd K over a 3rd D. And for the record, kickers outscore D's by more than you think. I don't have my stats readily available from last year, but from 2019 thru 2021, there were 22, 22, and 23 contest kickers who missed 1 game or less. Of those 67, the average weekly score was 8.61 points per week. Even if we take the top 22, 22, and 23 D's during the same period, they averaged only 6.60 points per week.

Yeah, I think the decision making is Keenan's floor versus Ridley's upside. I suspect Keenan is the better play...but I'll likely go Ridley as upside at value is so precious in this dang thing.

Keenan Allen or Calvin Ridley? Asking for a friend.

Ridley is still young enough to have upside. I have loved Keenan Allen to death, but all indicators show he's losing a step. Normally, I'd consider Allen to be damn nigh uncoverable, but I'd go with the younger guy.
This is fun....

Chubb or Pollard?
Harris or Mixon?

Oh, these two questions have been pondered so many times, even by myself.

Chubb or Pollard:
Can't do Pollard, absolutely not. Lamb is already on my squad and having the RB1 and WR1 gone on the same week is a recipe for disaster.
Chubb has had a great run. However, if he's on my squad, then this is the year where he's guaranteed to get injured.

So, Chubb or Pollard? Neither

Harris or Mixon:
Harris is the RB with the opportunity on the team where running the ball is in its constitution. Though Warren is a real danger to take more and more of the share as the season goes on.
Mixon is most likely the least sexy pick in this entire contest. However, he had 60 receptions last season. Can he keep that up?

Answer: whichever one you choose will be the wrong one.

PK Mike Badgely just scored the "hat trick" in the world of roster cut-downs.

Tennessee releasing him today makes the 3rd NFL team to cut him in the last few weeks.... first Detroit, then Washington, and now Tennessee.

If he lands on a 4th team this year, he probably has a great chance of becomming this year's version of Rodrigo Blankenship!

I think that the pricing this season is the most challenging ever. I enjoy seeking out the value plays during the summer, after the pricing has been established. The shorter length of the pre-season combined with even less star participation had made the value searching more difficult. I have always been a large roster proponent, due to the injury factor, after all you can't win if you don't survive the cuts.

But, back to this year's pricing, it seems more of a challenge to build a team with an abundance of lower priced productive players. It seems more logical to go big (in price) and therefore, smaller in roster.

Would appreciate some feed-back from the posters here as y'all spend even more time than me looking at this.
