*** 2023 NFL Preseason Game Observations Thread *** (1 Viewer)

Here is an observation...that is a gut and a half on Daboll...may be time to hit the salad bar.
You’d think he’d have access to a nutritionist and exercise equipment.
He also has easy access to lots of food. Changing dietary habits is not easy.

>>Brian Daboll after winning Coach of the Year said “I’d rather be playing down here.’’ He will watch Super Bowl LVII back home in Jersey. “I’m gonna sit back, eat a tray full of nachos, drink a six pack and then I’ll start my diet. I’m just gonna watch it as a fan.’’<<

Tua and Hill expected to play. No Waddle (midsection), Wilkins (contract), and DBs #1 Ramsey (knee) and #4 Cam Smith (shoulder) who has been great thus far. Nico Collins has been torching our #5 & 6 CBs in joint practices. Jeff Wilson also out, expect Mostert and lots of Achane early.

The WR battle for #4 though 6 is interesting: Chance, Ezukanma, Wilson, Cracraft, & Sanders who's banged up. Wilson has been the least impressive, but he has a big guaranteed contract. He's available for a conditional 7th.

The Miami oline without Armstead was a turnstile last year. Miami is better prepared this year, with Kendall Lam and Isiah Wynn as mediocre options, but we're better prepared. LG Liam Eichenberg is being dissed by local radio, remember Grier traded up to get him. There is competition at LG, so our line should be better. Austin Jackson at RT has improved and should be average. So, a very good LT when healthy, a good C and RG.

Top 20 potential if he stays healthy. McDaniel said he wants to run more in 2023.

Nobody has ever doubted his talent after that NFCCG against Green Bay. His problem has always been health. He's a dynamic runner still, even at the age of 31.
Health and the possibility of Achane excelling are obstacles to Mostert's 2022 total of 1100 yards and 5 TDs. He missed 1 regular season game.

He split time with Wilson, who actually got more money than Mostert when they both re-upped with Miami.

Miami looks awful
Oline looks bad. Tua was good aside from 1st throw, Hill and Berrios good, along with Mostert and an explosive play from Achane. Skylar just missed on a bomb that hit Wilson in the hands. There were also 2 completions to TEs, so Gesicki might not be missed so much. Speaking of the oline, Connor Willams, who wants a contract extension, had 2 high snaps.

Many local beat guys on radio think Skylar Thompson > Mike White. I agree, but they paid White so he's a lock to make the team. Thompson had some nice throws and decisions on that TD drive. On his first drive a bomb hit Wilson's hands.

Stroud with a good move to evade a rusher. He could've run for a first down, but missed a WR while running to his left.

I can't wait until the Steelers realize Jaylen Warren is better than Najee Harris.

You seriously don't think this hasn't already dawned on them and it's all CYA about the pick at this point? Or is Najee really better and more in keeping with what they want to do?

You decide.

I think its Gordon/Ekeler all over again. Warren is a better runner, better receiver, and more explosive. They should use Najee to salt games away and at the GL, and that's probably it.

Agreed. You could instantly see it last year. The question becomes how the staff thinks that Warren will hold up if they dramatically increase his usage.

By the way, I think Gordon/Ekeler was closer than this.

I didn’t watch the game, but it seems that Skylar is QB2, despite the huge White contract. Anyone else drawing the same conclusion?

They don't have much draft capital but if any team needs to make an aggressive move for o-line help, it's the Jets.

I don't think they'll be trading anything for Fant. They're probably hoping Miami cuts him.
LOL my bad, I'm not watching the games and my old man brain thought Fant had landed with the Jets not Dolphins.

Yes, I am certain they are hoping Fant gets cut.

They should have Jason Peters on the phone already, shouldn't they? Can't be worse than what they have.

I've had an unhealthy obsession with the Jets o-line this off-season. They are putting a lot of faith in Brown & Becton staying healthy.

To be fair, if those two are available for 15 or more games each, the line should be fine.

Its kinda crazy Peters still is out there. He's obviously not the player he once was (which was as good as anyone this century short of Joe Thomas) but he's still a passable starter, and excellent depth, phenomenal at 41.
