2024-25 NBA Thread: “the sun will still come up tomorrow”, Bucks fan says in city that hasn’t seen the sun since September (14 Viewers)

By the way, Alex Caruso is #1 on the Thunder in both defensive rating and net rating when on the court. The Thunder have the #1 defense in the league. @Jayrod

He's busy watching Buddy Hield making it rain from 3. So pretty to watch him catch and shoot. 50% from 3! Fifty!

Kerr is the man as many thought this franchise was on the decline. Turns out they only needed someone who could make 3s. T&Ps Klay.
Weird comment. Shot 39% on 9/game last season. Shooting 39% on 9/game this year.

I don't get into the weeds with stats as they're easily manipulated and often don't paint the entire picture. They're helpful but I'm commenting on what I see on the court, flow of the game and results. You can have your 39%, I'll go with 7-1 to support my point
Lol. You should use your eyes to see the defense then. It's not 3 point shooting that was missing LMAO. Number of shots and % are tough to "manipulate" - might be easier to recognize you said something kinda dumb and recant.

I wasn't aware of Buddy Hield's defensive prowess but I'll take your word for it my guy

Let us non-NBA nerds enjoy 50% shooting from 3 in peace. Dorks.

I need to remind myself sometimes that Buddy's hot start and involvement in GS's scheme has little to do with their current success. Klay parking himself at the three point line and doing nothing but hosting up bricks is essentially a 1 for 1.

nuggets vs OKC was a great game.

injuries to murray/Gordon forcing malone to play the kids. may turn out to be a blessing if they keep this up.
Exactly

Nuggets won't make another run without developing the youngsters, but the only way to develop the youngsters is with significant playing time

Plus with Jamal out, Westbrook is getting a chance to integrate himself into the system without stepping on Murray's toes. Phenomenal game from him last night

A lot of changes this year with the addition of Hield, Anderson, Waters, Melton, Stotts, and Stackhouse. They have made changes schematically on both ends and been playing a deep rotation. Maybe they are just on the right side of variance to start, timewill tell

It’s been fun to see them using Steph more this year as a playmaker and distributor. He’s not a pure PG, but he’s operating with more of an intent to pass than to shoot. I find it fun to watch personally. He’s always had great vision.

I've not tried to hide my dislike of the Warriors (namely Draymond and Kerr).

But dang it, Curry is the most skilled player ever. I thought he would make it when I saw his performance in the NCAA tourney, but never figured him for a top 10 all-timer. His series against Boston in the 2022 Finals was amazing as was his Olympics this Summer. In both cases he carried his team on the biggest stage and delivered huge buckets and passes when his team needed it.

Westbrook was fantastic. Due to this game I fully expect him to be a 75% 3pt shooter going forward.

Aa a life long warrior fan, I was happy for all US basketball fans as they got a chance to see what it feels like to be rooting for Steph when he is in the zone. Even the biggest haters had to appreciate it.

I can see not liking Draymond, but Kerr? WTF? What's not to like?

I mean people who live in Boston but yeah

FWIW, not me, just explaining.

Player over team over country. What's more patriotic than that?

P&S I knew it wasn't you.

barely pulled it off....I'd say they won in spite of him, not because of him

And for the record I cheered and chanted "U S A! U S A!" throughout the entire medal round games. My dislike of Kerr and his asinine minutes distribution did take a backseat to my patriotism.

Man Wemby a really uninspiring start to the season after a lot of hype coming into the year.

How on Earth does someone like him have 2 rebounds at the half?

Because he’s a 160 pounds? Stephen Adams was tossing him out of the paint like a baby last week.

Wow just read about Sabonis last night:

100% shooting, 0 TOs and a triple double (17pts, 11rbs, 13 ast)

First time ever. Light the beam!!

Yeah it's true. I pinky swear.

I should have probably gotten a medal with the team. I was that great.

But probably not as awesome as you. You probably had a team jersey on too. You are an amazing person from what I read on here so I imagine your heartfelt patriotism is off the charts.

Sorry, meant no offense. Did you actually go to the games by chance (I just skimmed over a page or two and maybe missed that)? Or where did this take place? I'm just trying to picture it is all.

it's a concern. Mostly, it's looking like he is gassed, and shooting 3s are the path of least resistance. Also feels like participation in the Olympics might not have been best for his development. I think they are figuring some things out, slowly - very slowly. Maybe chucking up ill-advised 3s and and lots of turnovers will start to show in his development (cough - soft tank - cough). But man, he has to see the same things we see when watching film.

And maybe coaching plays into this. Every game, I swear it looks like the Spurs players were introduced to each other immediately before tipoff. Except for a stint or two where CP3 waas kind of in a zone directlung traffic on the floor, it's been very frustrating to watch. I love Pop, but my goodness it's time to go. Bring on Becky!

I wouldn't worry too much about his offensive game. It is unlikely he's ever going to be a guy that can ever individually be a great team offense and he is 20 years old coming off a long summer.

If there was slip defensively, that would be concerning, but he is continuing to be better than advertised on that end. If he stays healthy, he'll go down as probably top 3 all time defensively with Hakeem and Russell. If his offense ends up being just good rather than exceptional, you have the best defensive player in the NBA and somebody like AD offensively with a more reliable jumper.

He's been an interesting watch. Since it seems like the Rockets have played the Spurs every other game in this young season I've seen a few different versions of the kid. He definitely looked like a shadow of his former self in his last game after dominating in his initial face off against Alpe. Definitely gassed and seems like a stamina issue. I think an official announcement of no more back to backs would be best.

This Wemby talk reminds of one thing that makes Tatum great. Jordan had it and Kobe had it, LeBron too....they all actually play. Game in, game out, they are on the floor competing.

75-80 games should be the norm, not the exception. Outside of truly serious injuries, every player should be dressing for every game. If they are banged up, limit minutes, but the DNPs are just stupid and weak.

:shakesfist: Old man rant over

(And yes, gtfoff my lawn)

To be fair Tatum is well rested after just sitting on a bench all summer.

I was rooting for America because Lebron, Chef and Durant together was ####### incredible and once in a lifetime.
it was effen amazing and i loved watching it and i for one like steve kerr i think he was a great player very cerebral and fun to watch and his warriors teams have been sort of a reflection of what i viewed as his style when he was a player and as to the olympics frankly when tatum was on the court it wasnt too great he was -4 against powerhouse south sudan only a +9 in a blowout against puerto rico where others like curry were +18 labron +18 and davis and booker +15 +16 and then -5 against france i mean if i am kerr and he is a guy that needs the ball all the time but is a negative or half as effective as other guys i think id sit him too and for me i watched every game the team did not look the same when tatum was in it just didnt there was less flow and less teamwork in fact it sort of reminded me of when i thought he was pressing and jacking up shots to try and get the mvp in the finals almost to the exclusion of his teammates it just didnt pass the swc eye test and as to flow and effectiveness the same holds true for haliburton i mean they both had thier moments and are amazing players dont get me wrong but versus the other guys they sat on the bench because they were not as effective as others take that to the bank brohans

Love you buddy, but if Kerr can't figure out what Tatum is good at and get him in position to help your team, that says you aren't a very good coach. Maybe he didn't have the time to figure it out, but it sure reeks of ulterior motive when a consensus top 10 player in the world isn't worth putting on the floor for 5 minutes against teams with a bunch of non-NBA players as starters.

And here are some other fun +/- numbers from the Olympics:
Serbia Group stage (USA wins by 26) - Embiid -8 (Tatum DNP)
South Sudan Group stage (USA wins by 17) - Tatum -4, LBJ -7, Curry -2, AD -5 (Tatum started)
Puerto Rico group stage (USA wins by 21) - Tatum +9, Embiid +7 (both started)
Brazil quarterfinal (USA wins by 35) - Tatum +17, Adebayo +3
Serbia semifinal (USA wins by 4) - ANT -14, White -16, Adebayo -15 (Tatum DNP)
France finals (USA wins by 11) - ANT -5, Tatum -5, Holiday -8. AD +2, Embiid +2

Plus/minus was all over the map and some guys who got a lot of minutes (Embiid, AD, ANT) fared no better or worse than Tatum in his minutes. The team was disjointed and took some great play from Curry and LeBron to win those last 2 games that shouldn't have been close to begin with.

Not sure I really get what all the hubbub is about with Kerr and Tatum. Team USA won the Gold Medal. Full stop. Wasn't that the point? Tatum wasn't shooting great, and Kerr's rotations obviously worked. There were limited minutes to go around. The narrative that Kerr somehow is the devil incarnate seems pretty silly to me. People would have a gripe if they didn't make it to the medal games. THEY WON EVERY GAME. Tatum played a bigger role last time around. So what? Maybe next Olympics three-time champion Tatum will be a primary contributor. By now, everyone should have moved on to focus on the current NBA season.

So Scoot Henderson is just *** huh?

He's not a very strong shooter, no. But, to be fair, he's also not very good at anything else either, so.....it's going great in Portland! At least this year we can watch some of the games on TV. We couldn't watch them last year unless we paid extra and viewership declined 60 SIXTY percent. :lmao:

I think I can get tickets for like $3 if I want to spend a weekday night watching listless basketball.

Would be a fun way to catch Joker and other stars. Sure Lebron and Curry would be fairly pricey.

Yeah, I'll probably look at scoring some tickets after football season ends as the twins like going to the games. They also like minor league hockey, which - for the money - is a WAY better experience. My boys love it when they fight and that brings me great joy.

Schedule starts to ramp up for the Thunder over the next couple weeks, excited to see what they’ve got.

First half Suns @ Mavs observations:

1. God I hate the Suns and Devin Bookers stupid face

2. Man the Mavs cannot play defense without PJ Washington and Lively

3. Luka alternating between actually locking up KD and then getting totally disinterested and lost when he guards anyone else is a weird phenomenon. Maybe it was just four strange possessions on KD.

4. I actually can't think of an NBA player I like less than Booker. Maybe Harden.

For the first seven minutes of the second half, Luka played outstanding defense on Durant. No drives. No step backs. Allowed a couple on ball screens to become switches. Never got screened off ball.

Then Durant decided screw that and just ran on him full court for a layup. Now we see if it was a mirage or if he gets back and sticks him again.

Feels like Durant has like 8 points and 3 assists since they took Luka off him. Dumb.

Edit: for what it's worth, it would be one thing if we had Washington or Marshall on him. But Washington is hurt. And we are putting Dinwiddie on him. A literal traffic cone.
