2024-25 NBA Thread: Finals return after 3-month hiatus (43 Viewers)

It’s only two games but I’m liking what I’m seeing from JJ Redick so far. Lineups and rotations that make sense, well defined roles and game plans, halftime adjustments, and sounds like great communication with the players. Seems like basic stuff but haven’t seen that with the Lakers for a while.

Agreed. JJ knows his offense and with the King's blessing he has the locker room behind him. It's also good to see him properly utilizing AD. He often seemed like an afterthought instead of one of the features. Still a 9th seed but at least respectable.

Watching Lebron tonight and once again just amazed how good he still is at this age. He has a legitimate chance to finish his career 1st in points, 2nd in assists, 20th in rebounds, 5th in steals, 1st in FG made, 5th in 3PFG made, and 2nd in FT made.
But think of the societal harm
I know, right.

Guy's a menace to society. Needs to be stopped somehow.
Nick Wright from FS1 had a great point about James a while back, which is that it is going to look crazy when you look at the record books and see that LeBron James was the youngest player to do x, y, z, etc. and then it will also show that he was the oldest player to do x, y, z, etc. as well.

Bulls dropped 133 points in Milwaukee. Six players in double-digit figures. Billy Donovan has stressed that playing at a fast pace is the mantra this year for the team.

Josh Giddey showed skill in getting the ball up-court and facilitating several "hockey assist" type of baskets.

Boy, I’m starting to think that Utah made a big mistake by not trading away Markannen and Clarkson when they had a chance to get a boatload for them. I know they played Memphis tough the first game—but I just don’t see this team going anywhere. I looked at their schedule—and it is pretty brutal to start the a season. I would not be surprised to see this team buried in the standings 15-20 games in.
They’re definitely not going anywhere this year and will almost certainly be in the bottom 2 of the west. I assume that the reason they didn’t trade him is that they have tons of picks and young players already, so they may as well hang on to a player who will still be really good in 3 years when they have hopefully built up more around him.

Clarkson, sure you could trade him, though he’s apparently kind of the leader of the team I think

99 free throws in the PHI/TOR game, 66 fouls. 3 guys fouled out for TOR. A total of 10 guys had at least 4 personal fouls.

What the hell?
I was only half-watching (or less?) while checking out some other games, but I was looking at it more closely in the middle of the 4th and I was like why is this game still going at 9:50 pm and who the hell are these people on the court for the raptors ?

Tatum with 37, 25, 37 in first 3 games. 2 blowouts and he wills them to the finish vs the Pistons who played hard for once.

Shooting 60% from the field and 50% from 3.

Top 5 player in the NBA, but hE JuSt WasN'T a GooD fIT fOr TeAM Usa.

Stephon Castle with 27 minutes tonight (Tre Jones out with injury), and hitting 3 of 4 free throws with the game on the line and less than 20 seconds. His shot was not great (2/8, it's a process). Bright future, get some shades

You do remember he couldn't shoot and then fixed his shot before the NBA season, right?

Fixed his shot? Someone who has played basketball for around 20 years doesn't "fix their shot" in 2-3 months.

He lead his team to the NBA championship a month before the Olympics and was the only American on 1st team all-NBA for the past 2 seasons. But somehow for that month in between there, his shot was broken and that is the only thing he brings to the table?

I guess the most decorated player on team USA for the past 2 years just wasn't a good enough player for that month. Yeah, that must be it.

But as a Celtics fan I'm glad. Tatum is pissed about it, so thanks to Kerr.

Why not? It is no different than tweaking a golf swing. My son's shooting coachhas NBA clients and he is always saying "Just give me a couple of days with so-and-so"

Houston had a nice 2nd half comeback but so many missed opportunities in the closing minutes. Sloppy offense and way too much iso ball. Udoka really needs to figure out this offense. I am happy to see Jalen Green going downhill more and penetrating in crunch time instead of relying on his inconsistent jumper. Just wish he'd do it all game. Reminds me a bit of 2023 Jason Tatum in that sense.

He has come out and admitted that his shot was "broken". He worked this summer to remove a little hitch in his shot.

And it wasn't just the Olympics. While Tatum played great overall, he shot 28% from three in the playoffs. Had a TS% of .549 compared to .604 in the regular season

Ok, he admitted he worked on it and wasn't shooting well in the playoffs or during the Olympics.

He also does a hell of a lot more to win games than shoot jump shots and should have never gotten 2 DNPs in the Olympics.

The Lakers look great. They had some defensive lapses towards the end of the game last night, but Anthony Davis has looked inspired and has put his mark on every game so far this season (albeit it’s just been a 3 game sample size). In previous years NBA threads in this forum—I voiced how frustrating Anthony Davis has been in the past. It just seemed like he’d put up 25pt, 10 reb games—but somehow often times his stats were more impressive than his impact on the game. So far this season—it’s like he’s going out there to impact the game first and foremost—and the stats are just a product of that mindset. If that keeps up, and if Lebron can stay healthy—I think the Lakers could easily be a top 4-5 seed. I agree with you on JJ’s rotations and lineups as well.

I was not to pleased to see Green show up in the second half. Then again, it's looking like we may have a rivalry again soon.

Efff Houston, hahahaha.

after last season and this i am starting to wonder if dame and anteater can cooexist and have the bucks be any good we were so much better with jrue this all hurts so much take that to the bank brochachos

I think the death of the Nuggets might be a bit overstated. They lost to the best team in the conference and missed way more shots, even from the bad shooters, than they will in a typical game. Some of my thoughts:
  • The Westbrook experience was on full display. He brings much needed energy and defense. At his best he was pushing the pace and getting easy shots for others as he got into the teeth of the defense. At his worst, he is hugely destructive as he can't stop himself from taking bad shots (which is most shots available to him).
  • Christian Braun is a better player than KCP but he needs to shoot better. He was the second best Nugget last night and it probably wasn't close.
  • Strawther, despite his +/-, looked good offensively and defensively. I think his development and ability (along with Braun) is why they were comfortable letting KCP go.
  • Malone needs to do better with rotations. Gordon and Westbrook can't be on the court at the same time unless Gordon is playing center and the other three are shooters. MPJ needs to play with the bench to give them enough shooting to function.
  • SGA was happily taking threes off the bounce - I think that could be a huge development for him and OKC.
  • Chet is a menace defensively. Not that we didn't know that, but he was great last night.
  • I think the Nuggets will figure it out and still be a top 4 seed, but to go anywhere in the playoffs they need to be better shooters. At least they were taking threes... other than Westbrook. He can skip it.
Was in attendance against the Clips, and the crowd definitely responded to Westbrook. As usual, he also brought a ton of energy. That may be the end of anything positive I could say about the Nuggets depth. Ok, Strawther stretches the D with his shot. That bench is gonna kill Denver's opportunity to win a second title with Jokic.

Starting 5 doc on Netflix is really good. I fast forward through the Butler and Sabonis stuff (they’re boring) but Ant and Bron are fascinating. Ant is just a child in a man’s body who happens to be an unbelievable basketball player. He is realllllllllllly immature off the court though. Not in a bad way, just in a 13 year old I want to play video games all day kinda way.
I think Ant is rumored to have 3 or 4 kids with 3 different mothers, so maybe a little bit in a bad way.

At this pace he's going to give Shawn Kemp a run for his money.
Uh, what money? 🫣

Agreed. JJ has done a really nice job with that Lakers roster so far. I'm not sold he's cut out to be a long-term NBA head coach. He's got the grind, but his temperament seems more like than not to wear him down. Gotta roll with it a lot more in the NBA, move on to the next. That's not really Redick's style.

Last year I got league pass, because I live in Cincinnati. I was so annoyed when Indy and Cleveland and Memphis were blacked out.

I live in the Bermuda triangle for ****ty NBA apparently
