I still only spent $46 at TE. Not bad when you consider that Kelce alone would have cost $30, and he's been largely a dud this year.
In 7 weeks, I've gotten 6 flex scores from the TE position. That was the plan all along because TE's produce more points per cap$ on average than RB or WR.

Survival rate for these teams is 100%.

There are only two of us, but we're both still alive in the contest.

For those not in the know, @Joe Bryant and @Contest Turk allowed a group of contest diehards to create 5 "fake" teams to see if 2 heads are better than 1 (actually it was 6 heads per team entry). All 5 entries are still alive, but don't worry - they are treated just like FBG staff entries - they're not eligible for prizes and don't count towards weekly cutoffs. I was part of the 18-20 player entry, along with @apalmer @-OZ- @Puppies @SeniorVBDStudent @Stray Doug and wanted to share our team and thoughts as we created our entry. Here goes:

QB
Patrick Mahomes - KC/6 - $27
Caleb Williams - CHI/7 - $16

We quickly decided 2 QB's was the right amount for a team of 18-20. For quite a while we had the Goff/Purdy duo, but the allure of another 5K/40 season led us to select Mahomes. Our backup was Geno Smith, but we pivoted quite late and took the upside of Caleb Williams instead.

RB
Josh Jacobs - GB/10 - $23
James Conner - ARI/11 - $17
Javonte Williams - DEN/14 - $14
JK Dobbins - LAC/5 - $8
Justice Hill - BAL/14 - $2

Stray Doug suggested James Conner the day the contest opened (31 July) and we stuck with him. It wasn't for another 3 weeks until SeniorVBDStudent mentioned Javonte Williams as a value play. We liked the week 10 options (Jacobs, Walker, Ford) but ultimately chose Jacobs because we thought he would be a volume hog in GB. apalmer fought a bit for Walker over Jacobs, but got outnumbered. Looking back at our chat, we had Dowdle but changed to Dobbins for the same price. I think Hill was our one cheap dart throw from early in the chat. In the end, we selected the 5 J's.

WR
CeeDee Lamb - DAL/7 - $38
Malik Nabers - NYG/11 - $19
Rashee Rice - KC/6 - $13
Jameson Williams - DET/5 - $10
Keon Coleman - BUF/12 - $10

We decided to spend more on WR's vs RB's, because the value was better. I remember our initial discussions focused on the value deals of the BUF and KC WR's. We took the risk Rashee wouldn't be suspended during the season, and Khalil Shakir was on our entry until we changed to his teammate Coleman. I think Jameson made our roster because of the Shark Pool groupthink, and it was -OZ- who said he was a lock to make his personal entry. Two weeks into talks, Puppies was the first to say the name Malik Nabers. Looking back at the chat, Nabers name went unnoticed until right at the deadline. For a similar price, we had Diontae Johnson most of the time. Lamb ($38) seems to have been a roster consideration early in our chats, and likely why we only have Caleb Williams with the same bye.

TE
George Kittle - SF/9 - $15
Brock Bowers - LV/10 - $14
Taysom Hill - NO/12 - $8

Kittle, Njoku and Hill were pretty much unanimous choices from the start. Bowers did not replace Njoku on our entry until literally 1 hour before the deadline. I honestly never even considered Bowers, but am glad we made the last minute change.

PK
Cameron Dicker - LAC/5 - $4
Cam Little - JAC/12 - $3
Will Reichard - MIN/6 - $3

Research says rookies are safer than you think, and we went with 2 of 3. We agreed to roster 3 cheap kickers all along, but found an extra buck at the end.

TD
Green Bay Packers - GB/10 - $3
Los Angeles Chargers - LAC/5 - $3

Roster size forced us to go with only 2 defenses, and we thought GB was the best. Another team we considered to pair with them were the Broncos, but we chose the Chargers because their schedule meshed better with the Packers.

Perhaps we can get the other diehards to post the other entries with their thought processes as well?

Here's the 24-27 player "fake" team as assembled by myself, @Grid71, @Galileo, @socrates, @Titans_fan, @Faust. This team came out of the gate hot, but recently has been struggling to make the cut. This week is another nailbiter.

The collaboration strategy was just to have people submit ideas for teams and I just tallied who the most popular players were to get consensus and we went from there. We didn't argue about much and we had out ream worked out in essentially a two page thread.

QB
QB Jared Goff $18
QB Jayden Daniels $17

I and a few other folks threw out Goff pretty early as he had a decent price and an early Bye. A lot of people agreed. The Daniels pick came later although he was brought up early at some point. We did not necessarily agree to go only 2 QB until the end. For a while we had a combo of Goff, Darnold, and Fields for about the same money. I felt like Daniels is the kind of risk you want to take in this contest to win. This position has been a strength of our team.

RB
RB De'Von Achane $21
RB Kenneth Walker III $20
RB Chase Brown $13
RB Rico Dowdle $8
RB J.K. Dobbins $8
RB Khalil Herbert $7
RB Samaje Perine $5

I really liked Walker coming into the season so I threw him in there and nobody said anything. lol I think everyone liked Dobbins except me, I figured he'd get hurt Week 1 or 2. I was wrong. Achane was never on my radar but again, boom or bust for this contest. Dobbins and Herbert were the first two to make the roster with consensus. We've not used Herbert at all in weekly scoring so far. This was later expanded to include Brown and Dowdle.

At one point we had a vote in the thread of either Achane+Walker over Aaron Jones+Jacobs. Looks like it's a bit of a wash so far. We'll see if Achane can justify this decision once Tua comes back.

WR
WR Malik Nabers $19
WR Rashee Rice $13
WR Rome Odunze $11
WR Jameson Williams $10
WR Ja'Lynn Polk $7
WR Andrei Iosivas $5
WR Greg Dortch $5

We came to a pretty early consensus on a bunch of guys. Rice, Williams, Polk, Dortch, and Iosivas were all on our consensus roster from the start. At one point we added Justin Jefferson for the Darnold stack but decided he was just too pricy for this big a rooster. Right now, we're hurting pretty bad a WR even with Nabers returning. This unit needs to turn it around or we will be bounced fast. All have been used here except Polk.

TE
TE Jake Ferguson $17
TE Pat Freiermuth $10
TE Isaiah Likely $9
TE Taysom Hill $8

We did not have our TEs sorted out until the very end. We did have Freiermuth there from the beginning but I feel everyone else was a late add mainly to fit pricing and bye weeks.

PK
PK Cameron Dicker $4
PK Joshua Karty $3
PK Graham Gano $3

For me, PK is all about waiting until the rest of your team is built and then fitting in the cheap kickers with advantageous bye weeks. We relied on the great analysis by TheWinz for this. Galileo and Grid71 warned us about Gano, but it fell on deaf ears.

DEF

TD Green Bay Packers $3
TD Los Angeles Chargers $3
TD Los Angeles Rams $3

This was our consensus pretty much from the start. Same as kicker, go cheap and fit bye weeks best you can.

Since we’re talking TE survival rates, I looked my trio up:
Kincaid, Ferguson and Taylor Hill

Survival rate for ALL teams: 37.48 percent
Survival rate for teams with these players: 60.00 percent

ETA: only 10 teams with these 3 TEs. 6 still alive.

I ran some numbers before the game tonight, and our good Friend "The Turk" has scored more points (181.4) from the tight end position than anyone else in the contest. If the man behind the curtain agrees with you, then you're doing something right!

116.6 vs 98.6 cutline with Dobbins and Justice Hill -3.3 and -6.3 levels to clear
how many layers of diapers do I need tonight?

Lamar and Baker are the two top scoring QBs in the contest thus far, so they could light it up, but on tomorrow morning, I think the cutline will be around 123.

I'm at 120 with Bucky and Dicker. Have Perine at 3, and a 2 point kicker as highs right now so anything will help really.

Done at 160.85
Quick usage counts:

QB Burrow 6 Caleb 1

RB Dowdle 5 Irving 5 Ford 3 Javonte 3 Vidal 1 McCaffrey 0 (3 out of 14 flex were RBs)

WR Jameson 4 Higgins 3 Rice 3 Tucker 3 Odunze 2 Dortch 2 Ridley 1 (4 out of 14 flex were WRs)

TE Bowers 6 Kittle 5 Parkinson 2 Hill 1 (7 out of 14 flex were TEs)

PK Bates 3 Karty 3 Little 1

TD Packers 4 Broncos 2 Chargers 1

The second time to break the 200 mark this season. Finished at what should be 202.2.

A big shout out to the most underrated TE of the contest, Cade Otton!

Yeah Otton was cheap lightly-owned sleeper last year. With hindsight would have like having him over Taysom.

Points scored by position group counting for my rooster (with investment $ at the position - side note I feel like one of those guys that accidentally spends only $213 with McCaffrey on my team).

QB - 2 for $38. Scored 203.05 points.
RB - 6 for $78 (though it may as well be 5 for $41). 212.90 points.
WR - 7 for $76. Scored 321.00 points.
TE - 4 for $40. Scored 268.60 points.
PK - 3 for $9. Scored 90 points.
TD - 3 for $9. Scored 82 points.

I'll always be a 3 PK and 3 TD guy. Just like the diversity at a position where a tiny score can bury you.
While the aggregate difference between roostering all 3 of my kickers vs any combo of the 2 only ranges from 11.00 to 22.50 (and for defenses it is between 2 and 20), the wrong pair of doublets had as big a potential dropoff as 21.9 points in a particular week. 3 kickers and 3 defenses is sorta like having some gold in the portfolio to account for downside risk.

Next week starts the 30% cuts, my entry if you care is still alive but my top 3 WR of Collins, Godwin, & Metcalf is a non-walking MASH unit atm, anyway:

UNOFFICIAL future Cut lines (a few ties pushed the number higher remaining this week, but did not affect future weeks):

Start 11695
10% Week 1 Cut to Number – 10528
10% Week 2 cut to Number – 9477
10% Week 3 cut to Number – 8533
20% Week 4 cut to Number – 6828
20% Week 5 cut to Number – 5467
20% Week 6 cut to Number – 4375
20% Week 7 cut to Number – 3500 now 3502
30% Week 8 cut to Number – 2450 now 2452
30% Week 9 cut to Number – 1715 now 1717
30% Week 10 cut to Number – 1201 now 1202
30% Week 11 cut to Number – 841 now 842
30% Week 12 cut to Number – 589 now 590
40% Week 13 cut to Number – 354
40% Week 14 cut to Number – 213 (means the top 12 non-playoff teams this week win a prize)

Notes From Contest Rules:
- In weeks 1--14, the cut is based on scores from the current week only. Scores reset each week.

- Specifically, the cut will be determined as in the following example. Suppose it is week 7 and there are 2,394 entries at the beginning of the week. Because the cut percentage is 20% for that week, 2394 will be multiplied by 0.80 and the resulting number, if not an integer, will be rounded UP to the next greatest integer. In this case, 2394 * 0.8 = 1915.2. We round up to 1916. The entry with the 1916th-highest score, and all entries with an equal or greater score, will move to the next round.

- if fewer than 225 participants remain after week 14, then prizes will be awarded to eliminated participants according to highest score in week 14. If prizes are still unawarded after that, then highest score in week 13, and so on.

And here I was absolutely certain that the Turk had come for me going into the Monday night games. But a combination of Lamar Jackson (49+), Bucky Irving (15+), Josh Palmer (10+), and Cameron Dicker (22+) kept him at bay for at least another week. I really need Jonathon Taylor to come back in week 8 and be his usual self.

We started this week with 34 folks eligible for @Joe Bryant extra $100 prize. We sadly say goodbye to @Tha Guru @ZWK @Mingooch :crying:

- JaBoo was this week's lowest advancing team with 126.70 (3447th overall)

Good luck in week 8!

Only had $129 going this week with Sutton part of that but still moving on with particular thanks to my RB group of Javonte Williams (finally), Bucky Irving, and Justice Hill.

My rooster has been hanging but really hasn't wow'd overall, although has been somewhat consistent. Playing around with some stats:
  • QB - 2 for $39, yielding 184.45 pts or 4.73 pts per $ spent.
  • RB - 4 for $58, yielding 246.50 pts or 4.25 pts per $ spent.
  • WR - 6 for $94, yielding 346.80 pts or 3.69 pts per $ spent.
  • TE - 3 for $42, yielding 146.80 pts or 3.50 pts per $ spent.
  • PK - 2 for $7, yielding 68.60 pts or 9.80 pts per $ spent.
  • TD - 3 for $9, yielding 91.00 pts or 9.10 pts per $ spent.
On average the team has scored a Min of 131.60 pts and a max of 175.50 pts with an average of 154.88 pts. Standard deviation is 13.42 pts... so 70% of the time I am between 141.4 and 168.10 pts. Not sure if that is enough to keep me alive in the next several weeks.

I began running a query to satisfy an idle curiosity of "Who among the survivors has the best group of running backs?" (It turns out it is Venti, who's team is linked below). But in doing so, I actually found it more interesting to see the under performers. Not in the "drive slowly past a car accident" kind of way, but more in the rooting for an underdog sort of way.

For instance, just like everyone else, Entry 102694 has had two flex scores every week for seven weeks. From those 14 scores, he has only managed to pull 54 points, and yet he survives. How is he doing that? It turns out its mostly Derrick Henry, but each week everyone else seems to disappear except for one or two blow up performances. (Shout out to Younghoe Koo in week 4).

LXB Titans felt pretty good about his mid-tier value selections of Tua and Bryce Young at the start of the season. But by week three he was taking zeros at the position. That entry was probably written off by its owner. But a team holding its own in this contest without a QB, that's like a three legged dog chasing a squirrel. Does it stand a chance? No. Will that prevent me from watching? Also no.

I like the idea of Entry 110996's 10 kickers competing each week for just one spot. The other 9, just sitting there doing nothing. Even if each week a different kicker was the highest scoring one, they would still have to survive through week 10 for them all to get used. To be fair, thus far he has only used Koo more than once. But I can imagine him looking at his roster at the start of the year and thinking, "Should I cut one or two of these kickers to get a second tight end for the bye week? No! football games are won and lost with special teams and I will be The King of Kickers!" And he is. My team has no such claim to fame, and will likely be cut the same week as his. Respect.

There is some more generally useful information here. Such as the number of teams to survive through week seven are pretty evenly split between carrying two and three QBs. Owners spend slightly more on WRs than RBs. The RBs on average return slightly higher points per dollar spent, but their scores have a wider range of outcomes. If you can find out which kicker PurpleJesus is taking next year, don't pick that guy. And our fear inducing overlord (and scorekeeper), currently has the highest scoring TE group in the contest :ponder: .

For me one of the great things about this competition is the stories that come out of this mixture of illogical and exceptional roster constructions weaved with the unlikely and unpredictable nature of fantasy football. Since next week isn't a given, I want to say thanks to all those who come on these boards and tell the stories that make this contest so much fun!

LXB Titans actually scored -0.2 at the QB position this week. That has to be a record low.

Tampa Bay lost Mike Evans due to a hamstring injury and Godwin, who will most likely be out for the remainder of the season.

Mike Evans - 53 entries still alive
Chris Godwin - 207 entries still alive
Both players - 3 teams still alive.

Entry 107265 - Last remaining WR is Stefon Diggs (Had Evans and Godwin as well)
AmazinNation - Started with 4 WR, Evans, Godwin, Collins and Cooper.
