I don't necessarily care, but it still seems weird. They call themselves Turkiye, not Turkey. Isn't that somewhat normal? Many countries have a different name in their own native language than the country is called in that country's native language.

I was just in Turkey a few weeks ago and asked my Turkish friend there why they changed it.

It sounds silly, but it is literally so that they aren't being compared to the delicious thanksgiving bird. They've always pronounced it "Turkiye", but got tired of foreigners pronouncing it like the bird, so the government "changed it" for foreigners. But nothing changed locally as they always pronounced it this way.

Fun fact: The delicious bird was actually named after the country, as there were many similar looking birds in the area.

Putting a team a man down for a red card seems overly harsh to me. I get how dangerous a high kick like that is, but there’s things in other sports that are equally or maybe more dangerous like horse collar tackles and leading with your helmet and the penalty for it does not include placing those teams to be a man down.

Putting a team a man down like in this last game is pretty much sealing their fate to lose over one individual’s mistake. Seems harsh.

Okay so with 4 third place teams qualifying it's a lot more messy with tiebreaker scenarios and the like.
So I'm going to stick with what it will take for each team to finish in a given spot.

(Almost) ZERO teams are mathematically eliminated at this time - even (sorry Poland), even Croatia and Hungary. Though it will take a lot for a team with 3 points - or dare I say 2 points to make it to the knock out rounds.

Okay for fun the 2 point scenario would have Scotland or Denmark or Slovenia or Serbia or Georgia or Czechia go through with 2 points.
Basically:
Scotland Ties Hungary and finishes 3rd with 2
AND
Czechia and Georgia both lose or tie (so they end up where the 3rd place team has either 1 or 2)
AND
Slovenia loses (no matter what happens in Denmark/Serbia the end result would be the third place team having 2)

Let's root for the above to happen.

I've seen them use stretchers for fake injuries hundreds of times. When they get to the sideline the guy jumps up and is ready to play again. Here, Alvarez clearly couldn't put any pressure on his leg due to his hammy, yet they make him limp 50 yards to the sideline? Weird.

While run this is not how it rolls - they do all 3 tiebreakers steps and THEN and only then do they go back to the top. So now I have to fix this.

*- this is the sticky one. In a 4-way tie, Romania and Belgium are both +1 goal difference with Romania scoring more goals. The question is if that situation holds (resulting in Romania being put in position 1) does the tiebreaker immediately go back to step a? In that Scenario Ukraine is 2nd (based on 4 points vs SVK and BEL) and then SVK beat BEL. I'm going with that premise but there is room for interpretation. Hopefully we'll find out. That would be fun. If my interpretation is wrong - this scenario would result in Belgium being 2nd.

Slovakia
1st with a win vs Romania and a Belgium win/tie vs Ukraine
2nd with a win vs Romania and a Ukraine win vs Belgium
3rd with a tie vs Romania and Ukraine/Belgium isn't a tie in fact 3rd even if it is a 4-way tie.

Slovakia will definitely be 3rd if they tie.
Ukraine is 4th if both games tie. 3rd if they tie and the other game is not a tie.

If both game are not drawn, who is ahead of who depends on the combo of winners losers. These apply to both to the 1st place and 3rd place ties:
Romania beat Ukraine
Belgium beat Romania
Slovakia beat Belgium
Ukraine beat Slovakia

Still pretty neat that all 4 teams can finish in all 4 positions.
