I admire the optimism.
Its possible with an Uruguay who has already clinched and a tournament that would probably like to see the US advance... but its a tall ask imo.

Z mentioned Turner not getting to the first goal (which I mostly dismissed) and some ish else mentioned Horvarh not getting the cross that led to the 2md goal.
Neither guy exactly stepped up the way we're used to seeing US GKs through history. Both goals weren't easy to stop, but were still savable.

16 fouls, yet they had no one with 2 yellows. Plus, there were another 15-20 challenges that were fouls that were clearly missed. Just a terrible job by the ref tonight letting them CONCACAF the **** out of this game.

You guys are still making excuses for this garbage like 12 years into these threads now. Everybody knows they were playing a man down today. That’s not the point. There’s no touch out there on any free kicks, the team looks like it doesn’t know what it’s doing all the time, it’s just consistently mediocre. This kind of result happens all the time for the US against weaker opponents. It’s not a one off.

So let's say Uruguay wins 4-0 or something tonight. That essentially locks up 1st place in the group for them as they'd be up 3 points on USA/Panama and have a 5 and 7 GD lead on each of those teams.
Which I would assume could make it very likely they rest players in their last match against us. Which would be good in that it would help our hopes of advancing, but potentially disastrous in that out of all of this Copa stuff with it being meant to be our one chance to play against elite competition before the WC, we could come out of it with our only worthwhile experience being a match against Uruguay's B team with nothing on the line for them. The ultimate worst case scenario there, now seems almost likely.

Not necessarily that he didn't get to the cross, but the shot was hit head high. That has to go over the bar and not get past weak hands to the goal as he's falling.

We are 2 up on Panama right now on GD. Panama has to beat Bolivia by 2 goals more than we hypothetically beat Uruguay by.
So if we win 1-0 then Panama would need to beat Bolivia 3-0, etc.

First time I saw the first Panama goal, I thought Turner could get there. Upon replays, I thought it was a very good goal, deflected off defender, placed perfectly, would have been a very tough save.
Not sure US can beat Uruguay B side right now tbh. Should have curb stomped Bolivia (I have a big wager on Uruguay tonight doing just that). Panama is not that good either, but yeah, a man down for 80 minutes is tough to overcome. Bolivia is probably the weakest team in Copa (maybe the mighty Almiron's are worse, but not sure)

Ultimately yes.
But, Berhalter has a limited amount of exposure here. Still mostly Weah - not excusing him. But as the manager - you have to know that the only thing the US can't do in a game like this - lose their heads, and get dragged into a concacaf quagmire.
Coaches have to be drilling that into every player's head all week - that message was as important as any tactical discussions. And, it's easy to say - "that should be obvious!" But, that is the job of the coaching staff - to not let the obvious stuff slip.
Still - players need to be accountable for their own actions.

And as far as I'm concerned, put Pepi on a plane back to Holland and tell him not to come back until he can finish like an adult. Dude had a hot streak 3 years ago and has been BRUTAL ever since. Every freaking chance he gets, he just shows absolutely no conviction and just hits some weak *** crap right at the goal keeper. Give Sarge a chance next time. At least you know he'll try.

The only reason it's 12 years is because we didn't have widespread internet forums for the past 30. Your point is a very good one and it goes back to the 94 WC in the USA where we squeaked into the knockout stage. We always seem to squeak through to the knockout stage, but we are rarely, if ever, impressive or dominant. Same story, different day. Sucks.

One thing I meant to mention live... I was surprised how few second balls the US won. Sure, in the opposing third they were up against it a man down. But in the middle and defensive third... What happened? Not a good luck for a US team that should've been fighting with every breath to win those.

@Capella I'll fight you over this. Imagine your Lightning playing 4v5 for 90% of the game. The level of opposition matters less with the huge man advantage. It takes a toll mentally and physically from the start.

Panama should've been beaten, but they've been a solid regional opponent for a bit now, and always a tough game for regional teams.

Weah gets the blame but GGG is the ultimate scapegoat.
We all know what the tactics are in these games. The coaches should have been drilling the players to not get suckered in. Even worse, the play that caused Weah to see red was not even that bad to be honest, just the normal chippieness from Panama we have seen for years.

Look man I get it. They were up against it (because of their own doing to be clear). My point stands that they are always this mediocre, nothing changes, we have the same bozo coach and bozo schemes, we don’t look prepared, nobody ever gets better, we don’t beat teams better than us, we struggle and lose against teams a shade below us and don’t hammer crap squads like Bolivia or whomever the hell we played the other day. Even if we advance we’d lose 1-0 in the first knockout game in an uncompetitive match and then everybody would pile in to say how close we are and in a few years it’ll get better. And then it won’t. Other than that things are great.
