There is a real chance a new coach immediately realizes Ream can't make it to 2026 at a high enough quality and never calls him to give other players a chance.Funny, they were just mentioning "if this is Ream's final game with the US..."Team will be younger in 26 than Pepe is for this Euros. It’s concerning that Ream’s club minutes dropped so much this season, but he still has to be a favorite to start in 26.Look, it's not that the US is out of a tournament (that we are hosting...)
It's that we haven't shown an ability to pull some kind of run in '26. If we can't beat PANAMA (regardless of a red card or not) how can we put together any kind of run to the final 16 in the WC? In a must win game on our home soil we never really threatened. And the worst part is that there was nobody we could bring in to get that win.
Ream won't be there in '26. Who will replace him? The formation (that GGG refuses to move on from) isn't producing goals. Wish I could remember where I saw it but a good take was GGG is a good club coach - play my system or go away and playing favorites.
If it's not working, make a change. Any change. Something.
I think the greater likelihood is the new good coach knows Ream is the only CB we have with composure on the ball and rides him into the ground (Pepe says :hiThere is a real chance a new coach immediately realizes Ream can't make it to 2026 at a high enough quality and never calls him to give other players a chance.Funny, they were just mentioning "if this is Ream's final game with the US..."Team will be younger in 26 than Pepe is for this Euros. . That’s on Ream though to maintain his conditioning. Why can’t they find the T. Boone Pickens of soccer? No billionaires like the national team? The issue is the pay. There are quite a few coaches out there that are incredible head coaches who are available... problem is they would cost $6-7M minimum(and some would be more).Speaks to the fact they respect him but results are results. I hope they make a change because this isn’t working but damn if I know who would.Exactly so.This is understandable but shouldn’t whomever is in charge of the usmnt have a clue? But I will make just one observation. I dont think anyone here, including us vets, have any real great idea of how to make the USMNT take the next step. Of who should be the coach instead of Gregg. Of who is actually a realistic target at all. Or of how the team should be setup differently. And I don’t think that just getting angry is very productive.
I’m a causal but I remember everybody being annoyed when they brought Gregg back. And now they wasted this primo chance of seeing what they could do before the WC with a new coach. Now we’re flying into 2026 blind.
Fwiw, the players all wanted GGG back and have his back.
The big issue with that is the equal pay agreement between the USMNT and USWNT. If we pay our head men's coach $7M, then the public pressure would be put on to pay Emma Hayes $7M as well and we can't afford to pay both.(probably can't even afford to pay one coach that much)

I screamed at my tv when he did it. You NEVER tell the score of the other game you need that early in the half. That should only be used in the last few minutes.
It may have been coincidence that they scored shortly after but he also could have broken concentration and focus.
Yes and no.Does a home World Cup make the job more attractive to a quality coach? Seems like a chance that doesn’t come around often.
Auto qualification to the WC probably pretty appealing.Does a home World Cup make the job more attractive to a quality coach? Seems like a chance that doesn’t come around often.

US Soccer could find a sponsor in a second to land Klopp (if he wanted to coach) but they would have to get it balanced with the womens coach as well.
The real problem is not the two year time period.I will say though - I still think the US doesn't have the depth to be able to just blow players off. That's a club thing. Sometimes you can't tell a Ream to just pound sound. You need them to win.
But, as a US fan, I could live with some uncomfortable/unpopular decisions if it means we suffer in the short term. 2 years is a good amount of time to do something. Wait 6 months and we are scrambling.
We will see how inventive they get.Sorry. I meant can’t they find a pile of money to throw at Klopp and an equal pile of disposable money to throw at the women’s coach? They can easily. Men won't be so lucky.
A coaches job it to develop players and make sure the players do what they need to be successful. You don’t have to make players uncomfortable to do that. The bigger problem is the GGG doesn’t truly know what it means to put players in a position to succeed. A whole bunch of these result can be written off by him and the players as “we were close” and just need to work at it.A coach's job isn't to make sure players (or their mom) likes them. It gets uncomfortable at times. Time to be uncomfortable.
Fair enough. But for me it's more than disappointing. Too often we fall short, and too often, we leave our destiny in another team's hands. Yes, that's partly the nature of the tournament. But for how much we've sought to advance the sport in this country since 1994, where we are as a national team is more than disappointing.Odd take. Our ability to advance out of the group is something that is not easy even for the big teams. The whole mission in the group when your not the lead dog is to get out of the group by any way possible.Since 1990, we have been to 8 World Cups and failed to qualify once. We have won a total of 6 games. We average less than 1 victory per World Cup, and we wind up scrambling for draws and hoping for outcomes elsewhere in the group stage. That's embarrassing.
Not even the harshest critic should ever complain about this when teams like Italy, France, and Germany have failed to do so at times.
Now if you want to point out that we fail at the round of 16 that would be fair but that is ultimately the top 16 teams of that cycle and the US are just shy of that quality.
You could call it disappointing but I feel embarrassing is hyperbole imo.
Mary could play, before the butcher came calling...Sorry to interrupt, but it’s unbelievable how much the announcer sounds like Mary Carillo.
I was watching and thought she sounds familiar. Then realized she sounds like the tennis lady. Then someone in here mentioned Mary Carillo and I was like “yes, that’s who it is. Damn, what a talented broadcaster. I can’t believe she does soccer, and pretty well.”
I thought you guys were joking when you said it’s a dude. I had to really focus to figure out it’s not Mary Carillo after all. But man alive does he sound like her.
Sorry, had to mention that.

MLS is less than 30 years old. That's one generation of players.Fair enough. But for me it's more than disappointing. Every WC feels the same. It's groundhog day. We have never been good enough to go into a game expecting to win. Feels like we play for a draw in the WC all the time.
Even tonight I'm sitting there rooting for a tie because I don't think we can score and win, while hoping Bolivia pulls off some miracle. Really? What a mess.
It's this teams catch phrase.A coaches job it to develop players and make sure the players do what they need to be successful. You don’t have to make players uncomfortable to do that. Hell Turner did it tonight by saying we were good until the final third. They’ve been saying that for 6 years now.
We rarely get the American feed for soccer. We always get the British ones. This was my first time I watched the American team for an extended period of time. It's been a thing for quite some time. Well, just another example of this ref being out of his depth. Wonder if the US will protest? The ref refused to shake Pulisic's hand at the end of the game. I have to assume Pulisic had some choice words for him during the game he did not forget.

Gio made comments about xg being good (generally) defensive shape being good, and movement/heart being good... Not as an excuse but to point out what he thought did work.well the players I have seen quoted are blaming themselves, not GGG.
Does any one know if GGG took any responsibility in his presser?
