2025 Detroit Lions: Game 1 Lions vs Packers. (38 Viewers)

I feel like this is Lucy pulling the ball away from Charlie Brown, hope I’m wrong. Arod couldn’t have played a worse game in Detroit. I don’t think he’ll be the key though - it’ll be the GB D.

I don't really see that. For the Peanuts analogy to hold, you'd have to believe in Detroit.

Everybody expects Green Bay to win. 68% of the betting is on the Packers against the spread, 87% of money line picks are for the home team.
It'd hold if the rams beat Seattle tomorrow. Going into that game with a shot of making the playoffs and losing would be a pretty big gut punch.

Oh OK 🙂🏻

Dude that’s what we want to have happen. You don’t want the season to end any other way - playing at their biggest rival (and we’re not even a bothersome gnat to them), with a chance to prove themselves. Nobody respects them, and they KNOW that. Gotta earn respect.

Lions did a complete tear down. No one realistically thought this was going to be a competitive year. We were hoping to see improvement from 2021 and have young players develop. Were hoping to develop a consistent pass rush: Hutch +1. Thought that might be Charles Harris (IR), or Romeo Okwara, maybe Josh Paschal. Got there, but didn’t think it was gonna be James Houston IV. Or that John Cominsky & Isaiah Buggs would be so stout.

Anyway, a loss doesn’t derail the vision. They’ll still compete for the division title in 2023. This year is already a very good season.

I think they’re gonna win. The Seahawks outcome is ancillary. Going 5-1 in the division and having a wining season for the first time since 2017 is a massive opportunity.

Gut punch. lolololol

As if it’s in my DNA to stop caring or stop loving this team bc I might get hurt by a loss.
Best thing hat happened to Detroit was trading Stafford. It’ll be very interesting to see what direction they go with that Rams pick.

I think today is nearly a win-win. There are 4 outcomes and only 1 is "bad".

Outcome 1: Rams win, Lions win. Hello playoffs!

Outcome 2: Rams lose, Lions win. No playoffs but we block the Packers and set the tone as the team to beat in the division for 2023.

Outcome 3: Rams lose, Lions lose. No playoffs and Pack get in. Winning in January at Lambeau isn't something most teams can do but with the playoffs off the table, it's not such a tough loss. The Lions are way ahead of schedule and the losses just set us up with a little better picks in an exciting draft.

Outcome 4: Rams win, Lions lose. This is the toughest since we get to essentially have a play-in game with our arch enemy Aaron Rodgers. Also just to twist the knife, that Rams pick slips back a little. Still, we end the year exceeding expectations and set-up really nicely for 2023.

I was hoping this would be a 1pm game. Hate waiting all day for this one.

Would it be better playing at 1pm or 4pm without knowing your fate?

Hopefully an IDL + CB for the two first rounders this year

Unbelievable that the Lions manage to get screwed by the refs in a game they weren't even involved in. I counted four times from the last minute of regulation through OT where they went to Blandino saying refs blew a call in a way that benefitted Seattle

the running into the K seemed pretty bad

whatever

this year is house money Lions will contend for the division 2023

once we came out flat in Carolina they lost control of their own destiny

don’t like it then don’t start the year in a 1-6 hole you have to climb out of

good lessons for a young team

Yeah, I'm not broken up about them missing the playoffs. Beating GB in Lambeau tonight matters far more than getting pounded by SF next week. But it truly is amazing how they never manage to get the calls. Seriously, can anyone remember the last time when the Lions benefitted from a bad call? Closest I can come up with is the Jerome Bettis coin flip

I’ve long since given up allowing myself to be annoyed by things like this. Around about the time the Seahawks batted a ball outside of the end zone or whichever last time out of the many that Rodgers got saved by a phantom holding/roughing the passer call near the end of the game then won it

I feel optimistic about this team right now. They just should not have started 1-6. The damage was done then

I know we all agreed that the Rams pick wasn't a big deal, and we would gladly have exchanged a drop of a few spots for a playoff berth, but FWIW with that loss and the Broncos win, I believe the Lions leapfrog the Seahawks for the 5th pick. If Colts had managed to stop Houston's two-point conversion it would have been 4th

For me it was that 2016 game vs the Cowboys when they called pass interference on a Lions DB for using his facemask to interfere with Dez Bryant's hand

Was really pulling for the Lions to get in.

Hope the players are motivated to win 1 more and spoil the party for Rodgers and GB.

Hope we see some Jameson Williams action tonight.

I really don`t think SF would pound the Lions at all.

Seattle players were flopping like the World Cup Soccer. The punter penalty was a disgrace, then Geno flopped too acting like he was hurt.

One thing I do know is Mayfield will be a career backup from here on in. Mayfield can win a game or two but he basically is not very good, and he looks so slow.

You’re right. They probably would have kept it close and then lost in the most frustrating way possible

Not the same ol' Lions. Definitely not the same team that barely lost to Seahawks and Vikings to get to 1-6.
1-6 goes to 9-8. No playoffs, but progress. Next year fans are going to be hungry for more.
Free agency, where they may mostly go after their own guys. But players aren't going to shy away, for once.
#6 & #18 (for now) in the draft. Let's see what happens.

Will be interesting to see how they approach QB in the draft. The good news is Goff has at least given them the luxury of not needing to be desperate. If a good QB falls to them at 6 or 18, or in the second round, they can take him as a project. But they definitely don't need to

@MikeClemensNFL

After game #Lions coaching staff just got into visitors elevators and one of their guys shouts “Can’t be losing to that team three times!!”

A coach from the #Packers elevator replied “Real classy.”

Lions coaches “Ya? Your quarterback said it!!” As elevator door closed.

rewatching the 4th Q too hopped up to sleep

D’Andre leaps and lands with his 🥜 on the DB’s helmet lol

our guests had a drinking game going drink every time Collinsworth said Dan Campbell
had to call a few Ubers postgame lol

crazy call on 2nd & 17 (Hook n ladder) - that was def a Week 18 empty out the playbook call - Swift gets 14

I don’t think they draft a QB in the first two rounds. Goff has been very good. Rather take a bunch of D.

they can win the division with Jared
Chiefs could win the division with Alex Smith. (Come to think of it, there are a lot of parallels with Smith and Goff.)

If they have the opportunity to get a good QB in the draft, I'm not against it. I like Goff, but he's not going to pull a Jim Plunkett and suddenly turn into a SB-winner. He's got a ceiling.

Outstanding job stopping the Green Bay Packers and spoiling Aaron Rodgers' night.

9-8 is a wining record, would have enjoyed a Detroit-San Fran game a little more than what we will watch on Saturday
Hope the Lions take the next steps forward

#6 and #18 in April

Kerby Joseph tied Brian Urlacher (3) for the most interceptions of Aaron Rodgers all-time (including playoffs). Not one season. All-time.

Joseph finishes his rookie season with 4 picks and 2 FF, most for a rookie since 2007.

Lions set a new NFL record for most sacks by rookies, 20.5.

Hutch 9.5
Houston IV 8.0
Paschal 2.0
Rodriguez 1.0

Old record was 19.0.

3rd NFL team to have a winning record after starting 1-6. Miami 2021 was another, GL in the playoffs (CIN was the third team.)

The eruption when we iced the game was noticeable on the broadcast last night. Great travelling support from Lions fans tonight. Then the deathly silence came which was even better 😂

Hundreds of fans in Honolulu Blue still lining the bottom rows 30 minutes after the game ended was awesome.

@CarmineV
Have to imagine everything said in the Detroit locker room before this game knowing they are out of playoff contention now can be summed up in three words: f*** s*** up

Yeah it’s a bummer the Lions didn’t make it. Blew some early season games they should have won. No doubt the Lions are currently better than a few of the playoff teams.

Good news is Detroit should be able to afford to bring almost everyone back, touch up spots in FA and bring in another loaded draft class with 2 first round picks and 2 second round picks.

MCDC said postgame “Gotta go build it again. We’ll have to teach the next group how to win.” That’s the reality of todays NFL. Rodgers was saying the other day on McAfee the other day “it’s been fun watching this team learn how to win…which you have to do every year.”

You can get good quick, you can turn it around in 1-2 seasons. They have a good young core, obviously. But there’s only 36 signed for next year and handful won’t be there (Brockers, Big V, tbd on Charles Harris, Romeo.) Jamaal and Chark can walk - hope they don’t but lot of work to do.

Might need a new OC because Ben Johnson will get offers.

Defense defense defense. Don’t stop drafting lineman, big guys are the key. Need a lot of upgrades on the back line.

I trust Brad Holmes talent evaluation.

Ben Johnson's youth and relative inexperience might help keep him around another year. The fact that he would not qualify as a minority interview or hire is another thing. And nothing against his personality but he's not exactly Dan Campbell Jr.

Holmes track record in the draft speaks for itself. He should be able to stabilize our core for the next few years with all these picks. I'm curious how he approaches free agency where he hasn't done much yet, understandably so. Does he bring in a corner or a linebacker, a solid vet to provide leadership on a young defense? A running back or just resign Williams? Tight end? Obviously he can address any position in the draft as well so I'm curious what he allocates money toward.

I think Jamaal comes back the way he spoke after the game, unless someone really throws money at him ( unlikely given FA class and deep draft ).

Alternatives …

FA - Monty/Harris or Sanders if they aren’t costing much more than a Jamaal return
Draft - Evans/Chase Brown/Corum/Charbonnet type ?

Highly doubt we are in for one of the very top draft options although have now seen a mock today with Bijan going to us at 18

I think he stays

@ArtStapleton

Talked to newest Giants LB Jarrad Davis for a bit today in the locker room. He revealed Big Blue has been trying to sign him from the Lions' practice squad for about six weeks.
Davis kept declining through his agent. He wanted to see things through with DET, who drafted him
🧵

Jarrad Davis and his wife kept talking through their options each time - the Giants never gave up, and kept checking back in, Davis said. They have a young family - son under 1 and 2nd child due in August.
Davis kept waiting to be signed to 53, to no avail. 🧵

When the Lions lost to Carolina last weekend, Jarrad Davis reconsidered and decided to make the move to the Giants with a chance to play a lot more and join a team also in playoff contention. The Davis family was in NJ last year with the Jets, so not unfamiliar to the area. 🧵

***************

Jarrad had 10 tackles and 0.5 sacks yesterday in his first game for the Giants. GL in the playoffs, dude!

I think that was one of the most satisfying games to watch in the entire season. Detroit plays so well together. Just really enjoyed the whole game, but the interception was definitely a highlight.
