Every best ball ranking i have looked at has Fields as a top 10 QB. Im kinda surprised there aren't that many submissions with him on the rooster. Agreed that it is a risk though.

Not saying he doesn’t have upside. His floor is somewhat less than desirable.

The 6 point passing TD scoring of this contest puts a dent in the value of the "good runner, poor passer" types such as Fields. This is as it should be, in my opinion. Seriously, would you really rather have Justin Fields as your QB than Joe Burrow (to name just one)?!

It puts a dent but doesn't completely even the field. The advantage is the floor you get from the rushing numbers and as a result less dependency on passing TDs which are pretty volatile. Fields still offers a great floor due to the rushing. The biggest risk concern for me is the Jets as an organization, not much to do with Fields himself.

I don’t have my QB1, RB1, WR1, or TE1 on the same bye week, as planned.
But my QB1 and WR2 share a week 9 bye (a stack will do that) but besides that, I’m feeling really good about how I spread out the byes on my entry this year.
I’m a little concerned about my week 14 byes with 22.8% of my budget going there. it’s my TE1 in Kittle who is the majority of that budget, and he’s sharing the bye with my RB3, WR4, WR8 and 1 of my 3 kickers.
Finally, I intentionally also picked different bye weeks for all of my Ks and Ds fwiw, so I never have a K and a D off on the same week.

Of course, injuries could change everything.

More to stop myself from tinkering than anything, I started to do a breakdown of my team, and was a little bit surprised by some things, but not overly worried.

First off, I may have slightly over-indexed on early byes. I have $89 (35.6% of total budget) out on Week 5, including my backup QB, RB1, WR3, TE2, 1 of my 2 K, and 1 of my 2 D. I'll definitely be sweating that week, but if I survive week 5, I should be in pretty decent shape (next highest % of total money on bye is week 10, where I'll be missing 19.2%, with RB2, WR2, and 1 of 2 D off). I have ZERO week 14 byes.

Things I have going for me that give me hope for Week 5:
- Goff gets a juicy matchup with the Bengals D, so my QB score should be solid even with just the one option that week.
- Even if Mixon is back by week 5, it will be his first week back, so they will likely ease him in, so Chubb will hopefully still be serviceable. If not, I'll be hoping for a goal line TD from Braelon Allen to keep me afloat at the position.

Secondly, going into this year, I was convinced that 4 TEs was the way to go, and wanted to target getting 1, if not 2 flex scores from the TE position each week. I wanted to spend more on WRs and TEs than RB. However, I simply couldn't find enough value at RB to make me feel confident in getting two good weekly scores without spending more. Ended up with only 3 TEs, and the following cash usage:

This RB spending was only slightly exacerbated by last minute tinkering due to some depth chart announcements (cough, Bill, cough), and had to find a way to fit Chubb in there at the last minute. I also shuffled some WRs, erring towards players with clearer roles, and away from some of the dart throws that would only be relevant with injuries. We'll see how it pans out!

Since I had to make an edit after last night's (avatar tag) deadline, I'm still in tinkering mode today....

I just did some additional tweaks to my roster that allowed me to include a couple players I had not been able to fit due to bye week issues. I saved $5 by making two WR swaps, and that freed up enough money to also upgrade one of my QBs, while preserving my bye week strategy. I'm still at 29 players with these changes, and that's my largest roster ever in this contest.

This is my latest iteration and will likely be my entry in the subscriber contest, unless I find something else I want to change prior to tonight's deadline.

A little backstory: I took a break from fantasy football for a couple years but am thrilled to be back in the game with this contest, FBG Bowl, and being the self proclaimed old guy expert in my 14 yo son's league.

Some methods to my madness:
First couple builds just grabbed guys I like with early byes. Used the Dominator to look at weekly scoring projections.

QB1 RB1 and TE1 are dudes who can finish as the top scorer at their position but at a slight $ discount. RB1 is getting up there in age but is also a runaway cement truck in a top offense. TE1 is likely discounted due to week 14 bye.

Went for value and depth at WR and expect most flex scores to come from this group.

I'm a Mahomes guy this year - comparatively he's an excellent value at $20. Mind you, I football-hate the guy. Can't stand him. But I anticipate my calculator will not have any problems with him. Here's to riding the Mahomes wave to the Finish Line!
