I made more edits. Not eligible for a badge. Maybe there could also be a badge for the owner with the most edits.
 
Never have ever submitted a Rooster (that I know of) under 24 Players. IIRC, I always shoot for 24, as the midpoint between 18 and 30, for no good reason other than it makes sense to me, in a nonsensical way...

Don't think I've ever submitted one with fewer than 3QB, 3D/ST, 3PK and 3TE...

Never have gotten to the Finals, either, as best I can recall, so here goes nothing:

at one point I had the idea that LLMs might be able to make things a bit easier when juggling lineups. I gave ChatGPT a list of players and asked for the bye week distribution. Later tried the same with Claude. Both were completely unable to do what I thought would be a very simple request. Just thought that was surprising.
 
While we await the official closeout, I've put together a bunch of gimmick teams (not real entries).
CHEAP - 30 Guy rooster with the lowest priced starters roostered - so there's a little more $ in the QBs so as to have guys actually starting the year. That's $104
MIN - 30 Guy rooster where all of the players have to be min price. That's $80
TOTMIN - 18 Guy rooster that is the lowest amount of dollars that can be put together for a valid entry. Btw that's $45
MAXMIN - 18 Guy rooster where I put in all the most expensive players at the 8 non-flex positions. Then did the best I could with the rest of the $250
NAMES - 19 Guy rooster where everyone shares a name with another guy on the rooster (with a couple bent rules). $250.

I'm going to try and do one more where I rooster 1 player from 30 different teams. (And hold back like $4 or so for 2 cheerleaders from the teams that are skipped).

Yeah I am out as I made a change even after the Sep 1 post and thought I posted unedited…but it is not there…I was traveling holiday and then crazy work schedule so missed the deadline for the badges…

And came in now…and have missed the tinkering for just the regular contest…

Yes it was able to do a nice writeup about the teams already picked but unable to accurately pick teams. It frequently evaluated players based on last year's schedule and bye weeks. It did a decent job to compare a players 1:1 or groups of 2-3 players to determine which were optimal.

I tried to talk myself into stacking my top receiving option by taking Kyler Murray, or Geno Smith with a pivot to Bowers, but I couldn't convince myself to rely on either of those guys. Eventually settled on the guy who I consider the favorite to lead all QBs in scoring, and my favorite of the mid-range QBs, both lightly stacked. For a while I had been thinking I'd take two mid-range QBs (maybe Herbert plus Stroud, Lawrence, or Fields), but I wanted to add elite talent somewhere and it is nice to have an elite QB when you're only rolling with two.

I really wanted to get Golden in at $12 because I think he will do well…plies everyone else has him 😜😁 so if he does really well it means I may not do so well.

I agree that WRs was the best area to make picks from this year. $20 and down has some excellent names that can definitely outperform there cost so grabbing 14 gives you a high chance of making some big hits week to week.

Thank God this thing is closed! I think this is my 789th edition. Probably would've changed it again and again but this is what I'm rolling with after the clock struck midnight.

At QB hoping both Lawrence and Love bounce back. They both have added weapons in the off-season. And Love I believe played hurt all of last year. Played around with all the different combinations of the QBs in the $12-$15 range. Ultimately settled on Lawrence and Love due to their earlier bye weeks.

RBs didn't change too much throughout. Didn't make the cut was Braelen Allen, RJ Harvey and a little bit of Josh Jacobs. Made the last minute switch from Harvey to Kaleb Johnson to save a few $ as I felt I was a little week at K with only 2 $3 Ks that I don't trust

WRs didn't change much either. Played around with a couple of different editions combining two cheaper WRs for more expensive ones. Had Sutton and Tet McMillan on a lot of variations but didn't like the bye week clashes with other parts of my team. Also didn't like the WRs I had to give up in order to make the more expensive WRs work. I like the potential of Hunter and Golden and stacking them with my QBs. Top 7 WRs I think I had right from the start. Settled on the bottom two of Tre Tucker and Elic Ayomanor after trying just about every other low cost WR.

TEs didn't change too much. Had Engram in a lot and Taylor in instead of Fannin.

Kickers I like the big legs in this contest. Toyed with three $3 kickers but saved a dollar for elsewhere by going with two $4 Ks with big legs.

Two cheap defenses. Briefly toyed with one $6 defense with an early bye.

Flex Pool Supply / Demand and Bye Week Management

Not counting the “starters” (RB1, RB2, WR1, WR2, TE1, Flex1, Flex2) there are 8 players in my roster “flex pool”. If we assume half the starters will score low in any given week, there is a “need” for 3.5 players from the flex pool each week exclusive of bye week demand (yes this is over-simplified as demands should be expressed by position type).

In this rooster there is never more than one skill position starter on bye (which is why you don’t see protracted commentary from me about bye week mgt...it was considered in roster creation), and the worst bye week for flex pool absences is week 5, with 3 from the pool on bye. Treating the flex pool byes as a “demand”, the total demand for flex pool is the 3.5 from regular variation and 0-3 for bye week needs. In the current roster, the total demand for flex pool never exceeds 6.5 of 8 flex pool resources and is typically 3.5 versus 8 on non-bye weeks and 4.5 versus 8 on bye weeks.

Kickers & Defenses

You could argue that the pricing for two specific kickers is “broken” this year (where elite anticipated production is “on sale” for only $4): Boswell is I guess discounted because he was screaming for more money earlier in the offseason and Loop is I guess discounted because he’s replacing a kicking icon (Tucker). From the trash bin, I added Grupe because he kicks indoors and the Saints may need to kick a lot of field goals / may have challenges penetrating the end zone lol.

At least in terms of eye test quality, there is a very real difference between $4 and $3 defenses this year. I think it’s a mistake to have ONLY $3 defenses.

Chief ($4) – bounce back on offense, something to prove, blah blah blah
Raiders ($3) – Maxxxxxxx Crosby plus a capable offense and head coach?

Roster is leveraged on the health of expensive RB1-RB3 which may not be bright as Henry is getting long in the tooth…but no risk it, etc.

With Diggs and Pearsall, I couldn’t take the week 14 risk of also having Henderson. There are also some flashing yellow lights on Henderson so I ran to the comfort of David Montgomery…which (hopefully) eliminates the need for a Mason or Bigsby for added depth.

Preferred Evans floor over the promise of Egbuka (jinx?) … and didn’t want to correlate just the pair of WRs and create a potential bye week issue.

I’m amazed that the following didn’t make their way onto my roster: Herbert, CMC, Mason, Bigsby, Chubb, JSN, Sutton, Kittle, Engram. I could go on but these were the ones who spent the most time on my roster iterations sans the last one.

I like the fact that if Bill is a mistake, 67% of rosters will share that mistake with me. That and the fact that I’ll be able to say “Oh no, Mr. Bill!”.

Miller seems to project getting a lot more touches that the rest of the $4 posse…I think he’s being unfairly boycotted because his team is going to suck this year. And Kamara is 30 years old now; that sounds weird to say out loud.

I had thoughts of replacing Chubb/Bill with Mason but left it alone. Usually I go 1 QB + a couple late flyers, it cost the same to go with 2 top ones. Probably overspent on PK/DF. Besides the Bill pick, didn't pay a lot of attention to the cheap flyers, I went for a mix of steady vets + higher upside (but riskier) players to round it out.

Last season we had 11695 entries, this season we have 556 less, but still just as challenging.

First month will weed out many of the non-competitive rosters or those that didn’t quite grasp the intricacies of needing to start fast. By Week 5 we will only have 46% of the field left. Will be interesting to see how many teams that fielded suspended, IR designated to return or PUP players that will miss the first month are still standing.

McMillan is going to be force fed targets. Dallas is going to be throwing a lot and Pickens might be my most owned player in fantasy this year. Coleman will have some big weeks in the BUF offense with the potential to become the true #1 there. Most will have Pearsall and Egbuka. I like Bateman as a guy with sneaky potential to top 1,000 yards this year. Ayomanor is in a bad offense but he’s a starting WR for $2, and I think Cam Ward has the potential to transform that offense. Have two week 14 byes, but I have to get there first.

Kraft is my most underrated TE this year, wouldn’t be surprised if he finishes top 5 this year. Warren will be targeted early and often. Ferguson is a guy I was really high on as a prospect and the Rams LOVED him. Slow start this preseason but betting on his talent winning out and being a usable piece later in the year.
