2025 Year-end Song Draft - We've Started, join in and pick a song or twenty four (6 Viewers)

Round 11

The Fever Dreams - Take Your Mama

Scissor Sisters cover that is better than the original, done in a Southern Rock/Blues Rock/Hard Rock style (although I think they classify themselves as being in the Classic Rock tradition).

Band is from Southampton, UK.

Round 12

Dogpark - Dreamwalker

🎶 Oh, dreamwalker, when you gonna tell me something I already know?
So, I can hang on every word
I hear you calling, I've been going in a circle chasing my own
Fairy tale, but I'm already lost🎶

Vocalist: Eamon Moore.

The horribly named Dogpark is a New York-connected band, with members hailing from East Coast areas.

"Known for their Indie Rock edge and nostalgic 90s-inspired sound, the band feels like a natural addition to any classic mixtape. Dogpark began their musical journey mostly as a cover band, but have since exceeded that image, making a name for themselves."

Missed participation in this again. I don't branch out and listen to a lot of singles. Mostly find albums and bands I like and stick to them. Also a lot of music is old as shown by my Spotify age of 50 (I'm turning 52 this month).

That said here are some of my favorite albums from 2025:

My top artist of 2025...

You are a lot better than me in that regard. My Spotify age was 68 (but I’m actually 46).

And I would not say that you missed participation. Can jump in/out any time. I just jumped in a day or two ago.

If you want it’s not too late, you can pick 12 songs from those albums you like best for inclusion

People who say music sucks now or there is no good new music are defeated by the existence of this playlist.

There's just so much out there, I think people who say this aren't even attempting to seek anything out.

Hell, these are all the artists posted in this thread that are new to me that I'll be checking out more:
Dogpark
The Wedding Present
Not For Radio
Ryan Davis and The Roadhouse Band
Caroline
The Wombats
The Wonder Years
bby
Friendship
Greet Death
Greg Freeman

My 20 year old's age was 77!
WTF? They only listen to big band jams or something? ;)
Idk. They like some old timey music but also a lot of newer stuff

Also I imagine with the Spotify age thing they are probably not saying music from 77 years ago but more likely maybe 57 years ago when a person is like 20 and in their music listening prime or something.

You might know the Wombats from this song...

I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to post both my morning and afternoon selections a tad early as I'll be out watching the footballs this afternoon. I don't think anyone was picking these anyway, but one never knows (especially when former MAD artists are in play).

13. Disclosure, Anderson.Paak - NO CAP

14. Röyksopp, Robyn - Do It Again (True Electric) - Mixed

10.dq - The Last Dinner Party - Count the Ways

I’m behind, so posting another. Will stick with another British rock song.

For those who wish to check out more of Dogpark, here is a link to their "essential tracks" (8 of which I added to my Liked Songs).

I think at least one particular poster wbo was complaining about it had the POV of the bands must not be good because he hasn't heard of them and the people/critics who like them are just doing so to sound cool. So yeah lol why are you pretending to like bby and The Wombats?

14. The Orchestra (For Now) — Skins

My favorite new Windmill band of the year. I would have picked them earlier if I didn’t think you all will probably hate them. They can be an acquired taste.

That is my assumption as well. I get it, I do think compared to "back in the day" it takes a bit more conscious effort to find and hear new music. Music videos and radio stations made it easier to hear and naturally know what is new and good by giving people variety. Listening was more communal as we passed around music and didn't have a choice but to listen out loud most often. The technology upgrade makes it easier to listen to anything, but like everybody else I am listening by myself with my earbuds most of the time. It's very easy to just listen to familiar stuff and get in a rut. I tried a little, but what really helped me expand what I was listening to was when the weirdos of the FFA started doing the music drafts - especially when I could put them on a disc or a Spotify playlist. Before that I was trying to make an effort to keep up with music, but as I dug through lists and suggestions I was listening to a lot of crap too. Probably more likely because I was always album focused.

Like 80s is saying these playlists are proof to me that opinion is incorrect. They also serve as a fantastic CliffsNotes to good music because for the most part everybody here has great taste in music. ;)

None of my artists are "new" but maybe they will be new to somebody else and they will go listen to other songs and albums. That's what this is about. Hip Hop is never a genre I used to listen to much, or much at all. I found a small pocket of artists during the last decade or so that I always gravitated to and in the last 5 years or so have found myself listening to them quite a bit. Aesop Rock is who I listen to the most after People Under the Stairs. I had to adjust to the voice, but the lyrics and beats are awesome. Anyway, CunninLynguists and Talib Kweli are two others I really dig and have a lot of great material to mine.

11.dq - The Head and The Heart - Fire Escape

Some indie folk with a jaunty piano. I do think their album this year was one of their best in awhile.
