Been sitting here trying to figure out what I knew him from, and it wasn’t anything you listed. It was his role as Lisa’s father in Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (and later Will’s stepdad).

I did too. Mike and Frank had a great dynamic. A little bit of clashing, but overall it was a very comforting show. One that I frequently had on as a backdrop that I could tune in and out of.
I mean it was a "lifetime" ban.

El Tiante was the starting pitcher for Cleveland in the first MLB game I ever attended. He took a lead into the 7th but gave up a couple of unearned runs and got tagged with the L.

Harry Chappas the diminutive White Sox shortstop who got a pre-season Sports Illustrated cover story in 1979 died last month at the age of 66.
Chappas was 5'5" but owner Bill Veeck thought the story would work better if he was even smaller, so he was officially listed as 5'3". Unfortunately, Chappas got off to a bad start and was sent to the minors before the end of April. He hit better when he was recalled that August but another bad start in 1980 marked the end of his MLB career at 22.

While they morphed into a much bigger, richer sound, I also really liked the early raw Maiden with Di'Anno. He just didn't have the powerhouse voice they wanted - hence the entry of Bruce Dickinson. Ugh. Sometimes I wish I never opened this thread. 85-87, fresh out of college, worked for a company that had season seats. My immediate boss had the responsibility of caring for them and hated it, so she delegated them to me. They were mostly for impressing VIPs, but it was pretty easy to use them myself. 95% of the MLB games I've seen live were 85-87. I made a concerted effort to see Fernando every chance I could. He was fun to watch and so unique. Also the same age as me. Sad to see this.

And then Valenzuela and the Dodgers had an amazing post season run
I believe they capped that with a 4-2 World Series victory over the New York Yankees, these two teams will see each other in the World Series laster this week
'81- He pitched the 1st game of the Division Series vs Nolan Ryan and the Houston Astros , Fernando was 20 years old
Valenzuela pitched 8 innings and allowed 1 run
Nolan Ryan pitched 9 innings and allowed 1 run
A young Dodgers pitcher that was not a starting pitcher yet by the name of Dave Stewart came out to pitch the 9th inning and lost the game 3-1
Houston would go up 2-0 in a 5 game Div Series and end up losing to the Dodgers in 5 games
Stewart would go on to be a starting pitcher in the late 80s and WON 20 GAMES B2B2B2B or 4 seasons in a row...
His passing brought back a lot of memories for me

That's such a sad irony of his passing right now, a few days before the first meeting of the teams in the World Series since his highly successful rookie year. I saw pictures of him recently and couldn't believe it was him - clearly his health was failing him quickly.
RIP to one of the more legendary figures in MLB history - who can ever forget his side look to the heavens upon his pitching delivery. He doesn't need a delivery now to look around there in peace.

Stewart and Valenzuela also threw no hitters on the same day. It’s the first thing I thought of when I saw this because that’s a very early memory for me.

there was something in the air that night fernando is one of my favorites but he is far short of 300 wins far short of 3000 strike outs and is nearly a point high in terms of era so the awards and his first season are really the best arguments he has for the hall of fame so should he be in or what take that to the bank bromigos
