And that’s the contradiction I was discussing earlier. Every Trump person I know is a wonderful person. Decent and kind. And yet they vote for this awful person with bigoted, unAmerican ideas. I know that most of his supporters aren’t bigoted. So what’s the ****ing deal? I’ve never been able to reconcile it.

Maybe you should reevaluate how much faith you have in the media you consume. They are very dishonest about a great many things, and they profit off of your anger/perceptions of the other side.

Consider this:
McCain: Racist, sexist ,bigot, homophobe etc.
Romney: Racist, sexist, bigot, homophobe, etc
Trump: Racist, sexist, bigot, homophobe, etc.
Biden: Crickets

It gets old being called all of those things because you disagree with a candidate about tax policy or social safety nets. Trump's success is because he was the first one that fought back against it. McCain and Romney did not, and they lost. I know it's been said here before, but Trump isn't Republicans saying F you to Democrats as much as it's saying F you to the media.

You don't know where I get what? That's what the media and DNC said about McCain and Romney while they were running. Not me. Once they were no longer a threat, they said the nice stuff. Romney didn't become a statesman in their eyes until he voted to remove Trump.
I only posted it because I was trying to help Tim reconcile his position that even though all the Trump people he knows in real life aren't bad people, the ones he sees on TV are all horrible. The media is feeding that to him and he's lapping it up. He seemed genuinely curious, but I guess he wasn't.

I understand that the original purpose of this thread has long since been tossed to the roadside, but I only recently came across it. Ironically, or unironically maybe, I was in the middle of a week long self imposed hiatus from this place exactly because I realized it was making me anxious and agitated. I'm more of a reader than a participator especially the last many years, but its still been more or less a part of my weekly routine for a long time. When I came back and saw the top thread was a this one started by you know who with 10 pages already since I last was here, I said to myself of course.

I'm not sure what's changed but this place seems angrier lately. Some of it is the absence of a few top tier posters, some of it is a reflection of the times, some of it is people like the OP who are just so exhausting. Whatever the reason, I think I'll extend my break for a little while longer. @Joe Bryant if you read this, I hope you don't shut it down, but no one can blame you if you do.

I won't call myself independent...not a democrat really, but definitely leaning left. However, I don't defend every liberal and liberal policy. Very few do. Most here have been critical of Biden on plenty of things.

Also, not sure how many long time vote Dem all their life there really are. As far as POTUS, Biden was the first Democrat I have ever voted for. Have voted both R and D in elections for governors, representatives, senators, and other local elections.

Not sure many here claim republicans are the worst and evil at all...who does that (not that you will ever really answer to any of the broad assertions you constantly make).
