Another FBG subscriber contest (2 Viewers)

No email yet from FBG regarding the 2013 league/draft. We drafted on August 13th last season, can't remember when the league was created. I think it was towards the end of July.

Yeah, I was wondering if we got a league invite through e-mail, or a link on this forum.....I guess now I know which one to check a hundred times a day.

I will be setting this up later this week. If you don't receive something by Friday morning, please e-mail me at gray@footballguys.com.

I could have swore I remembered them touting this contest as one of the reasons to sign up for a subscription. Historically it didn't "officially" start until week 2 anyway, so maybe there is still hope.

Doesn't surprise me that we haven't heard back. FBGs too busy bringing in $ millions from the players championship I guess.

This more than the subscriber contest was my favorite part of FootballGuys, it gave me something to do at work every day and a reason to come back to the site. If this contest is truly over I will probably not be on their site as much as I am usually only on for preseason draft prep.

If the contest is over then that is the decision and I am fine with it.

What bothers me is that we can't even get an answer one way or another. Everyone that has posted here is a subscriber and the lack of a response is total BS. It would take 2 minutes for Doug or someone else to post in here and let us know what is going on.

I am not one to complain usually but this is ridiculous. Obviously no one at FBG gives a #### about this thread or the subscribers that have posted here looking for an answer.

Amen.

It would be absolutely shocking to me for them to discontinue this contest. They already have the framework set up from past years and the prize pool is relatively small compared to their subscriber contest.

Here's to hoping they were just having too much fun in Vegas this past weekend and haven't forgotten about it.

Unfortunately, the participation is so small that it probably doesn't justify the prize pool they have. There are probably less than 100 people who go out of their way to participate every week, and a few who did it now and then.

I think you're missing the whole point of the WoC. It wasn't just a contest to draw people to the site, it was a way for them to generate free rankings based on thousands of fantasy football managers. Hence it being called "wisdom of the crowds"

Subscribers could leverage the collective knowledge of FBG members in addition to the experts. The prizes were just extra incentive to put forth our time and efforts to generate these rankings.

Unfortunately, customer service for FBG subscribers is just a cricket noise in the background these days. Nobody even gets notified about whether or not the contest will be back. Par for the course around here recently.

Exactly. It was basically low-cost solid data collection. And I would put it up against any rankings out there.

Yeah... except it wasn't "thousands of fantasy football managers." That's exactly what apalmer pointed out:

I don't know one way or the other, but it wouldn't totally surprise me if FBG did a CBA and decided that the WoC contest was a failed experiment. Only a tiny subset of their subscriber base was participating in it.

It's also something that regular fantasy sites like CBS have incorporated the idea into their programs as well. They have a "Who Do I Start" tab and there's a place where you can vote between match-ups. Given the sheer number of fantasy leagues that CBS runsthey get a lot more data than FBG did and in a much easier fashion.

I do agree that a response would be cool - even if it's just to say what we've figured out. Even if it's idea that became outmoded or not worth it from a bottom-line perspective I think that the folks who enjoyed it could understand on some level.

This starts in week two. Look for it on Wednesday, I think.

Sorry for not responding sooner.

This is great news. Looking forward to spending an hour to answer the question,,"Which running back will score the most points , Lamar Miller or Chris Ivory ?

Looking but not finding.
Looks like the rules in the first post of this thread have been updated for this year. Will run from week 2 through 16 with weeks 3 through 16 only counting toward overall standings.

Also, looks like they've eliminated the top 12 playing in a league for the prizes and instead have opted to go with a straight bonus for your finish:

The top 12 scorers will also win these bonuses:

1st: $250

2nd: $150

3rd: $100

4th-6th: FBG 3-year subscription

7th-12th: FBG 1-year subscription

Also cut the weekly prize money in half

Don't care about the cut in $$ (too much), sad to see the top 12 league go...BUT another reason to love football is back. Me Happy!

Yuck. The league entry was easily the most fun aspect and biggest draw.

The only effort FBG had to put into creating the league was to email us with invites and set up the MFL page. We did a slow draft on our own without any intervention or input.

Surprises me that the league was removed. The drop in $ is understandable if they didn't want to put as much into this contest, but it's not like the league really required any work from their side.

Oh well, I guess I'll spend a lot less time on this (and at FBG.com) in 2013. Really enjoyed the contest in 2011 and 2012.

I like that the contest is back whether or not they pared the prizes down (presumably commensurate with the amount of folks that participated).

I am glad its back, (it is back right? still not found the link), I wish prizes weren't scaled back but I am fine with it I just enjoyed the contest and the obscure pairing you can end up with. It might take a little effort on our part but we can always get a top 12 league together ourselves for the top 12, and then either put up a prize ourselves (and/or beg football guys to throw a bone in there as well). Almost everyone on this site that participates in this contest knows how to put together a league and also would be fun to compete against in a league.

Too bad they cut the prizes. Of course, right after I talked a buddy into joining fbg with the WOC contest/league being a selling point. They should have cut from the main contest, instead. At least the WOC contest I'm involved in past week 8!

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to win twice as many weeks.

Offfical picks start today.

Just don't have the same juice for this contest with the WOC league not up for grabs now.

I know it's premature with only two official weeks in the book, but is anyone going to calculate/track overall standings?

From last week.....

Buddy: So who would you start? Romo or Vick?

Pantherz: Vick vs the Giants, in fact I'm starting him over Ryan in my league.

Buddy: Thanks.

Pantherz: Wait a minute. You and I have both been playing Fantasy Football for 25 years, so why do you need me now to tell you who to start? You've asked me for three straight weeks.

Buddy[hesitates]: ....Uh, you're actually not telling me who to start........You're telling me who NOT to start. Sorry dude.

Pantherz: Ouch.
