that title made me think of Pan Amsterdam (whose bio on spotify is one of the better ones)- lo-fi jazz-rooted tongue-in-cheek hip-hop..? I like- but my tastes in hip-hop are spotty and naive at best.

Yeah, that's a pretty good description, actually. Their early stuff in the aughts was really impressive. Their independence hurt their popularity. Plus, they really don't clear samples if I'm not mistaken so it's best that they're underground. This is pretty good so far, but I'd expect nothing less from these guys. Thes and Double K. Crate diggers and emcees.

eta* This album wasn't bad. I enjoyed listening to it. Nothing earth shattering, but a quality album.

you read the bio?
No, I didn't. Where's the bio? Never mind, found it. Sounds about right.

I'm sort of familiar with them since about 2002 when I heard the song Time To Rock Our #### on a surfing show. I immediately purchased the album and then purchased the next two. My friends and I listened to them quite a bit back in the day. I would say The Next Step is probably my favorite album by them while 43 Labels I Like might be my favorite meta song ever this side of Sweet Soul Music. I recently bought a flexi disc of Thes One getting political. It wasn't very good, but that's for another day.

we talking about Pan Amsterdam?

we talking about Pan Amsterdam?
No. That was for People Under The Stairs. I'll check the Pan Amsterdam bio.

Oh, that's interesting. Just listened to Plus One and Landlord Elijah. Very chill. Emceeing a little bit behind the beat which is never really my thing, but it's pretty dope in this instance. I sort of like the beats. Sort of almost a spoken word jazz thing going on.

Overall, not bad.

eta* Just heard The Lotion Song. That's more my speed. I like it. Thanks for the rec.

 new Sleaford Mods is $$$$$$$$$$$
They've been talking so much ####, and their recent singles have been such crap... figured this was their death rattle with everything just trying to drum up interest.

Is it the full album? If so, glad to hear it's good- big fan.

Well I like it.  I'm no authority on cockney electro folk punk

I figured their whole IDLES and Fat White Family beefs we're just an attempt to drum up publicity for the new record.

I've been a fan since I first heard them.. but as mentioned, I feel like some of their recent singles over the last year between albums have been weak. Made me think they'd run out of ideas (it's not a broad musical spectrum they cover) and had gotten stale...thus needing to make a lot of noise in the press about newer bands that are having success, to generate interest. But I still really like them and am looking forward to hearing the new album in spite of all that.

UPDATE: my new ear-worm that I found from my latest Release Radar is Reconciler.   They've got a Menzingers vibe going on for those into that.

P.S. There's got to be a new Menzingers this year, right?  Anyone heard anything about that??

Sloppy Steffy back at it again, callin' you up at 5 AM

"Have you been drinking?"

Well of course I have... Why the hell would I be here if I wasn't?

Just had a stretch of seeing car seat headrest, Sharon Van Etten, ty segall & and white fence and deer Hunter.

2019 rules so far

I am going to marry this week's release radar... new Pkew Pkew Pkew, another Czarface and a handful of other full albums I have been looking forward too.

So the question then becomes whether I'm going to listen to Motley Crue's collaboration with Machine Gun Kelly and try to muster up the will to check it out ironically...or will it just ruin my morning?

I think it'll ruin my morning.

Hard pass.

eta* That song showed up in my release radar...I am not marrying this week's RR like Jaysus is, that's for sure.

RR looks good at a glance... about to dive in:

guided by voices

GRMLN

wand

foals

pond

coathangers

ex hex

FEWS (eta: new album out... singles have sounded really good- looking forward to hearing the rest)

rolling blackout coastal fever

lady lamb

white denim

pan amsterdam

royal trux

... strange that RR hasn't given me sleaford mod's latest. also the longest I've gone without a new wiley for a couple years.

listened to Beirut's latest yesterday... no real grabbers, but all sounds nice if beirut's your bag.

I'm a handful of songs through it, and gotta say this is really solid guitar driven stuff. think Shame, more rocking Foals. so far, no bad tunes.

I thought I had them on mine, but I have PUP, PAWS, and EGGE for my all-caps bands this week.

ETA:  And Megan Traiinor again (I need to get my daughter her own account)

I get a lot of Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Bastille, etc.

BECAUSE I LOVE ALL OF THEM.

eta: weird- no PUP for me, even though google seems to know I'm interested by telling me about the release on my news feed.

Liking the PUP songs.
diving in now- thanks for the headsup.

oh, right... they just released a video that's pretty cool. they put the chord progressions and lyrics out into the ether, asking people to do their own versions of the song completely in the dark of what it actually sounds like. they got over 200 versions of the song, the videos of many of them (from piano-ballad to mariachi to ska to death-metal and emo) making their way into the final PUP video.

eta: Free at Last

wait... the album isn't out? just the two singles?

So this is, umm, more mature than their last one. I really liked that immaturity.

ETA: and then "Adult Party" played.. lol

Pink Mexico have a new album out... first song I've heard from it, Dirty and Stupid, is hopefully indicative of the rest- I like.

eta: sorry, it's another all-caps outifit... so- PINK MEXICO

They sound like buddy bands, but I like PUP better.  Their take on "You Don't Get Me High Anymore" is pretty b-a too
Yeah, I'm way more familiar with PUP than Pkew Pkew Pkew. I think I gave Pkew a brief listen per NV's recommendation about a year and a half ago. Not bad stuff, but I really dug PUP's first album on Side One Dummy (?).

Reservoir live at a KEXP session is still a rocking good time.

I've enjoyed a couple of the suggestions from this thread (FIDLAR, Speilbergs).

Here are some albums I've been enjoying that I haven't seen mentioned yet.

bi/MENTAL - Le Butcherettes
Berkeley's On Fire - SWMRS
OK, I'M SICK - Badflower

HTH,

J

I just posted this in the wrong thread... but breaks my heart to hear new cranberries tunes pop onto my spotify. they've been pretty decent too... :(

So far, I'm about four tracks into Father Of The Bride by Vampire Weekend. They're, um, short?

That's about the best I can say about them so far. I may wind up loving this, and they certainly are all pretty and precious, but I think Ezra misses Rostam. A lot.

I love Harmony Hall (which I think is 5+ minutes) but I haven’t liked anything else.

Harmony Hall was the first track I heard. It may very well be over five minutes, and calling it short is an error on my end, likely caused by listening to it weeks ago.

The three I heard today were rather short. And, as you intoned, kind of unlikable so far.
