Best albums of 2019 (Spotify playlists in 1st post) (1 Viewer)

I played them for Mrs. Eephus the other day because they're coming to town in August.  Her taste is usually pretty catholic and she loved The Drones when we saw them but she was two thumbs down on TFS.
oh- I'll readily admit they are an all-in or all-out kind of band. like IDLES (or David Sylvian), I'd never begrudge anybody for absolutely hating them.

have you given that Steve Gunn a listen? I was thinking of you... I think... when I posted about him above.

Julien Baker covering The Modern Leper
The Biffy Clyro cover of the same song from the FR tribute takes some chances.

On the related topic of dour Scottish folktronica, Meursault has a new record.  It's clever of them to release a gray rainy album on the first day of summer.

I like the Raconteurs song on release radar (Some days I don't feel like trying) enough that I'll likely dive into the album this afternoon.
This sounds good. I haven’t really liked any of White’s solo stuff so it’s good to hear him rockin again.
I've always liked The Raconteurs the best out of White's side projects.  Brendan Benson's pop sensibility is a good complement to White's usual schtick.  I like the new one a lot on first listen.

I'll check him out.

He'd probably be better though if he spelled his name in all caps.

Went to Download Fest in England last weekend.. fun fun fun.. mud mud mud tho.  I don't think I'll ever forget wading a good half mile through 8 inches of mud with bags tied around my feet, to go buy us Wellies at the "village".  Not often these days that I have to tap my inner Englishman and just bear down like that

Finally saw the mighty 'SNAKE.  And Slayer

Nova Twins and Alien Weaponry were fresh-faced highlights.  Power Trip, good live and I keep trying but still not for me.

Great mix of old, older, and new acts; glam, grunge but mostly straight up metal..

Also speaking of inner Englishman, now that I'm in my late forties I've finally hit my Peter Gabriel phase 🦊

Zilla is ‘SNAKE Whitesnake? 😂
Is there another snake??

Sounds funny but they’re the reason we went. My girlfriend was looking for a Xmas present for me and went through my playlists on Spotify. This led to the whole damn trip (we hit Iceland too)

They were great.. whole thing was. Pumpkins, STP with their new copycat singer. Zombie, Slipknot. Somebody called Royal Republic.. those dudes were hilarious. Def Lep did all of Hysteria. TOOL, perfect of course. Clutch. It was a smorgasbord of quality shiz

How’s Coverdale sounding/looking these days?

Better than you’d think.. can’t exactly hit the screams of course.  Looks alright, probably got some work done. It was good to see Reb Beach still shredding in his fedora.

Also nice catching up with Lamb of God, who once killed a dude

I've always respected more than really had the chance to get into all his stuff.  No ####, he may have started to phone it in now but I don't think anybody in rock music has more credibility than this guy.  Plant and Paul Simon wanted to be him.

I like Coverdale because he's still kind of a hard ###.  Plant is a big softie and dances around with a giant tambourine now.

I am probably too wimpy, not gonna lie

I do like that Mannequin P-word, "Drunk II" is the right mix of sexy/vulnerable/badass

I spent most of last week in the woods, and most of this week catching up... so I am behind on my release radar (pretty sure I had the Pitbull, Megan Trainer, Taylor Swift trifecta this week :hot: ).  Any, I missed the new Avett Brothers song, and I think I am in love with it.  Anyway, looks like a new full length is out this fall.

I listened. made it a few seconds. forgot they're not my cup of soup.

The Regrettes (a band I learned about here) are putting out an album with tentative release date August 9th. There’s 4 available songs that were previously released as singles, all killer. Newest one sounds straight out of Is This It“I Dare You”.

My Release Radar did not refresh this morning
phew... mine did too. about to dive in.

rr- lots of remixes, but also-

the hives (!) (most excited about this... the rest is kinda uninspired, tbh)

operator music band

saul williams

slothrust (still waiting on official pronunciation- slow-thrust? slot-rust? sloth-rust?)

the drums

scarypoolpart (the american idol indie kid, alejandro, that I liked)

GRMLN

beak>

If you want a really jarring and interesting listen, check out "Schlagenheim" by British noise-rock band black midi. It sounds like someone took the most experimental/noisy records in my collection and chucked them in a blender.
I can't stop listening to this but I haven't decided whether I love or hate it.  The songs move off in a lot of unexpected directions, sometimes too soon for the groove's sake.

The singer sounds like the child of Jello Biafra and Adam Sandler's Opera Man but he's somehow right for this strange band.  You have to have chops to be able to play music like this and the rhythm section is extremely locked in.

I feel the same way. Is it interesting? Absolutely. Do I want to listen again? Eh.

Just heard some garbagey remake of Head Like A Hole, with all new garbagey lyrics.  Turned out it was Miley Cyrus.  Or, I fell asleep and had a weird dream in the sub shop.

I really like the idea of Miley Cyrus hearing that song and thinking "Let me add some of my own stuff and spruce this ####er up."
