Breaking Bad on AMC (3 Viewers)

Hmm, Skyler never really stuck me as impulsive, although maybe I never thought about it. She was definitely someone who paid attention to every little minute detail, which we saw early on when she scolded Walt for using the wrong credit card for like a 14 dollar charge or something. Plus, look at how meticulous she was with buying the car wash, getting Walt's gambling story right, etc. Impulsive people usually tend to fly by the seat of their pants, while Skyler was more meticulous and anal.

yeah, i don't get impulsive at all.

maybe Impulsive was probably the wrong word, but some of her stuff was just a knee-jerk emotional reaction...sleeping with Ted because she was pissed at Walt...dropping the relationship abruptly after Hank got shot...lashing out at walt....her #####ing about the $32 bottle of wine seemed more like a controlling thing rather than being meticulous....

None of that was a knee jerk reaction. She slept with Ted because she wanted Walt to leave/divorce her after he swore he wouldn't.

She dropped the relationship because she needed Walt's money for Hank's rehab.

Buying expensive champagne would arouse suspicion.

In many ways, Skyler was far more calculating than Walt, who had the tendency to fly off the handle and lose his temper (see: him going off on Jesse because he was mad about him not using the ricin on Gus, leading to their fist fight, at a time where Walt desperately needed Jesse on his side).

Seemed pretty impulsive when she decided to start smoking again.

Why did Walt kill Lydia?
She was a threat to his family. Walt knew that she wanted to kill Mike at one point, so he knew that she was someone who had no problem eliminating anyone who is a threat to her and her freedom, and remember that Skyler had seen her at the car wash, so she could identify Lydia. By taking out Lydia and all of Jack's gang, all threats to his family were gone.

Upon third review, what was everyone's problem with Walt being at Skylar's house? Marie made it pretty clear in her phone call that the police weren't watching the place.

Where did we hear that the way that scene was shot came about by accident? Was it Talking Bad? The director was setting up the shot or something, and the beam was blocking out Walt, so they decided to shoot it that way.

Just finished watching the series and it's awesome. I enjoyed it more than the Wire and about the same or as much as The Shield (which I watched as it aired - more enjoyable as you get to talk about it). Great acting all around. Worthy of all the praise.

Funny, I started Dexter before BB so I watched Dexter's Final season as it aired and it was atrocious. I can see why people in that thread were so damn disappointed, especially if they were watching BB at the same time.

A few questions about the whole Walt poisoning Brock plan. I know why he did it. The timeline of events are just fuzzy to me.

- When did Walt tell Saul and how did Saul poison Brock?

- At the hospital when Brock is sick...did Jessie still have the "cigarette" on him? If I remember he was missing it. If Walt wanted to implicate Gus, why did he need Jessie to be missing the cigarette?

- Just as Jessie is about to leave with the vacuum guy, he takes out a pack of cigarettes, and after fiddling with it he clicks that Walkt poisoned Brock. What is it about the pack that allowed him to put the pieces together? Or is it because Yule was able to steal his dope from his pocket?

That whole string of events is unclear to me.

I thought it was Walt in the microwave that was the accidental shot. Not the beam... was it both?

Huell took the cigarettes from him, but Walt was the one who poisoned brock. Saul said as much when jesse figured it out.Jesse didn't have the cigarette in the hospital. When he saw brocks symptoms he flipped out on the cigarettes in his pocket and yelled no with a handful of ripped paper and tobacco. He thought walt had done it, and went to kill him, pointing a gun at his head.

Huell stole the weed from his pocket when he left the office after saul told him not to take the weed with him and jesse ignored him. When jesse realized huell was a skilled pickpocket, he realized that it was way more likely that walt had asked saul to steal the cigarettes than that gus had done it.

the other piece being that after they killed Gus, Jesse learned that Brock was poisoned by Lily of the Valley and NOT Ricin. At the time he thought accidental, but Walt justified it to Jesse in the conversation on top of the parking garage ("he had to go" he was a bad guy)

add in that after hours /days of Jesse looking for the cigarette, Walt is able to find/come up with it.

Just because a character says it out loud doesn't make it any less stupid. It's just not credible that the police wouldn't keep an eye on the home of a fugitive's spouse. Come on.

I can live with some stretches and a little deus ex machina, but on repeated viewings I think the finale pushed a little too hard.

Edit: That the said, the scene itself works really well dramatically and is something that needed to happen. It's just that the set-up doesn't pass the "Oh come on" test.

Isn't he visible in the reflection though?

I assumed the place was being watched, but Walt was just too good at sneaking around.

I also thought his "good-bye" to Walt Jr. was perfect. So tragic.

I dont think that Walt made Eggs and Bacon for Jr. ...

I just finished watching the whole series after starting it on netflix right at a month ago.

From about the middle of the third season, I would watch one or two episodes then read forward in this thread. The day of and the day after episodes were very good in here. After that, I would skip ahead because it became a whole lot of speculation about what happens next, and I knew I could just watch it now unlike everyone having to wait for the airings. It would have sucked to wait the whole year between episode 8 and 9 of the last season!

Great show, great acting, writing, everything. Intense and unpredictable as ####!

Just before that she talks about calls being made all around town about Walter's location and the police chasing down leads. I'm willing to believe that the ABQ police are stretched thin enough to not watch Skylar's house. In terms of the finale, it's more believable than the machine gun alignment in the final scene.

That entire scene was as awesome as it was ridiculous.

I totally agree. I loved the finale.

Not a terrible list. I'd probably switch Gretchen and Skyler.
Where does Windy fit in?
After a few trips to the dentist, I'll reassess her standing.
What about the skank ATM killer chick?
SHE AIN'T NO SKANK!!!
But she is on Justified this season (Ava's old heroin friend in the joint).

I started watching this show for the first time a couple of months ago and finished it tonight. That may be the best series of all time bar none.

Re-watched S05E09 - S05E13 over the weekend because my dad is finishing the series.

Long periods of time where my mouth was open staring at the TV. Most engrossing show ever.

Every episode seemed to be packed with iconic scenes....

very few/no filler scenes that are just designed to keep the plot moving until you get to your next big scene.
