I don't agree with it, but Flacco would not be available in the second round. If Flacco was his top player, he has to take him. For that reason, I can't criticize any of the picks so far.

There's at least 5 QBs that I would take before him. 3 of whom have won Super Bowls, if that is part of your criteria. Flacco is a fine player, but he's about the 12th-15th best QB in the league. Nice to see others like the JJ pick. He's a beast. Super young. Couldn't pass him up.
The dropoff to the next defensive end is pretty big. He's a game changer.

Considered him and 2 others, but age won out. Had all 4 as similar talents/leaders. Like his size, escapibility, can scramble a little bit. No throw he can't make. Flaccos more of an established QB than Russ Wilson. You put Wilson on a team with a weak Defense and running game like KC or Buffalo andI guarantee his year looks a lot different. Lets be honest, Flacco carried the offense in the playoffs.
I think he should go higher than 58th, but the 11th qb off the board sounds about right. Maybe player #20-25 overall. He's a good player, but there are much better QBs still available. Stats, yes, of course I would cite stats. How else would we judge players?

Aside from an elite few - most of which are older than I'd select to be my franchise QB heading into the future, this can be said about all QBs. Wilson, I believe, is the 3rd best young QB in the NFL. He isn't neccessarily better than many that are close to 30 or older, but he has room to improve.

was targeting JJ Watt or a QB. With Watt going I'm shocked at the QB decision I had . Choice came down to Cam , the other guy & the elephant in the room Q that is still out there. Cam & the other guy do what I want to do offensively. I just think Newton is more polished & refined.

I also had the choice between JJ Watt and Cam staring me in the face. I'm not sure why, or what it is, but something just nags at me about Cam. I have no idea, but it was enough to sway my decision.

After reading the original post, I have some questions.
1. Are we sticking to 32 rounds or going to go for 53?
2. Is there a specific quota on the number of college players? Do we HAVE to have 2? Can we have more/less?
3. Can we go away with the limitations per position. What if I want my base defense to be nickel?

Apologize for the wait - I was out at dinner last night when I got the text, and completely forgot about it when we got home. 
1.09 - 49ers take Drew Brees, QB (Saints)
Will PM commish and next person.
EDIT: Can't go wrong with Brees. Younger than Brady, and just as accomplished of a passer. Debated another guy here who is younger and faster, but Brees should have another good 3-4 years of championship-worthy play in him.

Did the person that picks 9th pick yet??? Seems it went Cam at 8 Brees at 10. Did I miss something?
Several directions to go here. Calvin would have been an option here as we'll as one other from a positional scarcity standpoint. But you can't pick from here and not get a quality QB when there are still a few to choose from depending on your opinion.
That said I'm going with upside here as opposed to safety with the other I considered:
1.10 QB Colin Kaepernick
Has the arm and the legs that give me options constructing the offense moving forward. Shorter body of work but I will take the risk here.

I'm shocked that Drew Brees was available at 1.09 and taken after Flacco, Watt, and Newton. He's one of those quarterbacks that makes your team playoff bound even if your draft outside of the first round is only average compared to the rest of the teams. He just turned 34 so he still has a good 5 or so years left. Gandalas has to be thrilled.

His ability to run the RO is a huge asset but he has the arm strength to make any throw and good accuracy. He's still extremely young and has his best football still ahead of him. I like the pick.

Very hard for me to choose Flacco over him, but the age and size were the deciding factors. I disagree with the 5 good yrs comment. I'd say more like 2-3 at his current level.

I think quarterbacks like Brady and Brees will play longer than they would have had they been born 20 years earlier for a couple of reasons.

Exactly. I feel the same way. Rodgers and Brees don't need grade A talent around them on offense to be successful. If I started with a Flacco or a Newton for example I would feel like I would have to invest early on offense to put them in a position to succeed. With Rodgers, I feel like I could focus on defense early if the board dictated that and still have one of the best offenses in the league.Yes, I was VERY happy.
