Can we discuss pet peeves here? (17 Viewers)

Getting an email from somebody at work, and 2 minutes later they are at your door  "hey, I just emailed you.. (continue speaking saying exactly what they wrote in email)"

I want to slam the door immediately in their face.

Coworkers that slam their entire bodyweight into the door of a occupied and locked restroom. They could save themselves some embarrassment by just checking the door handle, but no... lets charge into the door - shoulder first!

people who make innocuous seeming comments that are dripping with condescension

for example:  "yeah, drink that water. i know you like water.. i bet it tastes good, huh"

totally bland but said with an underlying intent to insult or belittle. especially when followed with thinly veiled derisive laughter.

the person making the comment is being an ####### but many people don't notice.. which, i guess, is the point and it only seems to make the commenter feel more superior?  as in "i'm putting this person down in such a clever way that they don't even realize it... because i'm superior to them."

what they're commenting on isn't unusual, or even worthy of noting, yet somehow they feel the need to subtly express their inner anger about it.

%&%!$$!@$ is, probably not surprisingly, this guy. all day long.

Long lines at the drive through. It was at least 20 deep at Taco Bell today.

What's the point of spending 30 minutes waiting in that line versus about 5 inside? Is it that much effort to haul your fat ### out of your vehicle?

I think the problem is idiots that go through the drive through with very large orders. If you are ordering for more than the capacity of a car or have excessive instructions for how the food is prepared you should go inside. I was once behind a guy at the speaker that seemed to be ordering over $100 of stuff with very specific instructions. After 3 minutes of this doosh still ordering I pulled out of the line and went elsewhere.

I will follow on this; fast food that is slow.

Whats the point of a drive through and being called fast food if you cant serve people in a timely manner?  This seems to be typical in my area, where the fast food joints are so incredibly slow.  Maybe if they paid a reasonable wage they could be slightly more selective in their hiring and actually put out a decent product at a decent pace.   The only place that has consistently good service is Chick-fil-a.  Don't know how they do it, but they are always fast and always friendly.

The crappy service is forcing me to eat healthier and I don't like it.

They have the lord behind them.

friday morning, nearly had my front end taken off by a woman taking a corner with both hands and eyes fixed on her cellphone

must have been steering with her knees?

Behind a lady at Subway  :bag: , and she opens her phone and fumbles around and orders four more sandwiches from a list.  Then had to read from the list to get the right stuff on them... <_<

We hosted about 8 girls for my daughter's birthday a few weeks ago.  We wanted to get them a quick lunch and I hit subway.  Not many people in line when I got there.  1 or 2 people behind me... I let them know I had a larger order and let them go before me.   They were grateful, and the server (while slow) was less stressed with the bigger order.

I am all about efficiency when possible.

Hey dummy, you are a 50 year old man. I am not holding the door open so you can make your way all the way through it as you decide to zip up your jacket. I am holding it for you to reach your hand out and grab it. Next time i am letting go right as you look down.

Here's my fast food drive through pet peeve, drive throughs with two windows, but poorly spaced windows.  It seems they are alwasy just a few feet too close together.  There will be a car at the first window, one behind them, and then I pull up to the second window, but I'm about three feet from being able to interact with the person in the window.  So the whole process stalls until the first person gets their food and we can all move up.  Logically things would move quicker if I could be rung up without having to wait, but I'm sure it doesn't really help.  Just annoys me.

This.  With special orders or ordering for more than two people (unless prenumbered meals) just go inside.  Those dozen cars behind you will appreciate it and you’re more likely to get the correct order.  Everybody wins.

You hate your daughter that much?
she only gets to eat when we let her out of the closet

edit: in reality, i can't stand subway.  we have several delis nearby that are very good. between time, price, and quality i am not sure the girls would know or care.

Everyone except the person ordering who has to suffer the inconvenience of considering the people around them.

Another fast food pet peeve.

i used to get off work around 3am and my only option for a meal before bed is Jack in the Box which when I got bCk to my town would be at 4am. 3 nights in a row I would pull up and the guy would tell me they were rebooting the computer and couldn’t take an order for 20-30 minutes.

Evidently they always do this at 4 am at this particular one. Would it be too much trouble to just put up a sign to explain this before a dozen cars or so have to pull in and be told they can’t order?

The only other option at that hour was McDonalds so I just ate some M&Ms and Cheeto crumbs out of my couch cushions and went to bed.

Sounds like the guys working the late late shift just wanted a little time to chill before going home at the end of the day. Maybe pop the 12 pack one of them ran and got from the party store down the street a little earlier.

They win by getting the correct order.  I would think the odds are about 50% of that happening at the drive thru with multiple special orders.

while we're on fast food drive throughs... Do the cost of ketchup packets come directly out of the paycheck of the window worker?  I go through about once a week and buy lunch for a couple coworkers at various burger joints.  I get 3 combo meals, and as they hand me the drinks I always ask for ketchup.  I get 2 packets. Not for each meal, two packets total.  If I ask for a specific number, or ask for more after they give me the 2, you'd think by the looks I get that I just asked them to skin their own baby

I had a girl on a bike with full headphones casually cross the road right in front of me.  She didn’t look at me once.  I could have killed her.  I thought about wailing on the horn, but then I thought, what's the point?  Sad.

I love all these people. I don't want them inside slowing me down. I grab mine and am likely home before they get out of the drive-thru lane.

Had a woman on her phone cross against the light right in front of me on my bike commute this morning. I yelled JFC as I slid sideways to a rapid stop, barely avoiding her and almost wiping out. She didn't look up from her phone or acknowledge me at all.

I had a college-aged kid do this to me a couple of weeks ago, without the headphones. I saw him the whole way, approaching a stop sign on my right (I didn't have a stop, but was still going slowly from a previous stop). I was ready for him as I could see he didn't even look my way as he casually ran the stop sign and slowly made a left turn right in front of me.

I wailed on the horn. He looked at me with scared confusion and came to a stop near me like he was going to ask me what the problem was. I rolled down my window, and he said, "Sorry, I'm on a bike."

Huh?  No ####, Sherlock.  I just said, "Yeah, and you rode out right in front of me. If I had hit you, you'd be hurt and I'd be the one in trouble." I moved along, and I'm not sure he ever even understood what happened.

living near a college campus i encounter this nearly daily. kids don't even pause. they just walk in to the street from any point. 90% of them have either headphone on, faces in phones or both.

gonna hit one of them soon and have to live with it forever

Running her over would have gotten the message across

I send emails with attachments all the time, but I guess it's up to me to follow up and make sure they got the emails and attachments. because them sending 'email and attachment received' is serious rocket surgery stuff or might sprain their foreheads as they mash them against the keyboard doing whatever the hell it is they do.
I read this.

The traffic ones reminded me of one.....idiots who blast their music in their car.....never understood this....at some point it is just too loud, does music really sound better when it is blasting so loud you can barely stand it...is it like a “cool” thing...do people think chicks did it or something....anyway, couldn’t take it anymore one day and had a group of gang banger/thug types doig the whole blast the music thing...the kind where the bass actually vibrates my car....decided I had enough one day as a group was next to me....so while we were at the light side by side, their bass vibrating my car, I just laid on my horn the entire time.....just looked over at them as it obviously “bothered” them.....gave them the “whats up” head nod and just sat there blasting my horn.....made me feel better as I drove off....but probably lucky I didn’t get shot....

Did they get off your lawn after that?

People trying to make a left turn from a stop sign on to a heavy traffic street, when there is a stoplight one block over.

Drive with more awareness.

Also, blinker use. Just use them.

CFA obviously does a lot of things right, but the consistent volume (they're always equipped to handle busy times) and simplicity of their menu are huge factors, I'd think. Compare the CFA menu with pretty much every other fast food place, and CFA seems to have far fewer items, and they never seem to have new or special items like other places do.

They are just firing out a ####load of chicken sandwiches, fries, nuggets, and the occasional salad.  It's not unlike how McD's rose to dominance. Nothing gums up the works in getting orders out like too much random stuff on the menu.

I don't eat fast food much, but a couple of years ago, I had back to back orders where CFA screwed something up, which is quite shocking. I don't check the bag at CFA. Even whey'd messed up the previous order, still didn't check it. Still don't. Obviously, you need to at every other place.

While we're on FF pet peeves, yes, checking the order is a good idea, but there's a special place in hell for people that do it without pulling forward so that the car behind them can pull up. And of course, it's typically the idiots with the big orders that sit at the window and check it all. I think every decent person understands you pull forward, and if something's missing, you gotta go inside to deal with it.

I'm with ya.... till the end.

The point of a drive through is to not have to get out of your car. So I pull up 1 car length check my stuff, find a mistake now I have to get out walk back squeeze in between your car and the drive through window to say excuse me I didn't order the fish sandwich.  Then they're gonna tell me to pull away into a spot and they will come out...or if you check your stuff and a mistake was made now I have to go park my car...take my 2 kids out of the car. We all walk inside to a crowded restaurant where you have to flag a server's attention and then tell them the mistake? No thanks.

FTR I never check my order. My wife will always check it only if we ordered something for my daughter. She is the plain hamburger person who 20-40% of the time gets a burger with stuff on it where it has to be returned. She will quickly find the lone burger unwrap and drive away.

I kid you not.  I stop at McDonalds to get my kid a happy meal.  So this McDonalds is busy and doing the 2 windows.  Pay at the first window - pickup meal at second.

So I'm paying at the second window. Car at food window pulls away, I get my change and am just getting ready to pull forward when a car pulls in front of me to the food window to complain about their order.   I was    - wanted to punch that dude in his freaking head

If your wife is with you, why would you have to take your kids inside if they messed up your order?

This very issue is why I stopped going to the local Popeyes.  Love their fried chicken, but the inability to get enough dipping sauces from the window workers make it more of a pain than it is worth.  I would order a family meal of 12 pieces, and a kids order of chicken tenders.  I'd get to the window and ask for honey mustard (for the kid), blacked ranch, and buffalo and add "can I get a few of the ranch and buffalo." I have 12 pieces of chicken plus a kids meal mind you.  Always without a doubt they would come back with one of each.  The derision and pure hatred they would show in their face when you asked for more, and the complete lack of any speed they'd come back to the window with was rediculous.
