Teams have begun to stop our run game over the past two weeks.
Brissett has done well but he is limited so when the run game is stifled the game/offense falls on Brissett.
He performs well when the run game is working and the pressure is off but he's not a Pat Mahomes, Josh Allen, or Deshaun Watson who teams have to respect and game plan for a pass-heavy attack that sets up the run.

...Getting Deshaun Watson back at quarterback will help these situations where the offense leans heavily on throwing the ball,

People think it's a simple matter of play calling but it isn't.
Key injuries to Pocic and Conklin and Teller have caused havoc with the run game so running the ball isn't the answer.
Brissett has done great but when you have a journeyman QB it limits your offensive options.
Here's an interesting chart of every team's point differential by game minute.
The 'few' teams with top-tier QBs and the ones with poor QB play really stand out when you see the graph.

The injuries to the offensive line will still hurt our run game and even though I fully expect Watson to struggle and show signs of rust I'm eager to see what Stefanski can do with #4.

Something I hadn't considered concerning the missed FG attempts.
Seems Bojorquez, our holder has a history of kickers with missed FG attempts.
Former kicker Jay Feely has said that Bojorquez struggles as a holder.

No excuse for missing that FG yesterday and if it's on the holder than I blame his coach. No reason not to know that about your holder if he has that kind of history in the NFL.

Good win for the boys, I wrote them off because, well Browns but they played tough yesterday, hung around and won it despite themselves. I hope that was a sign of things to come and not just a lovely parting gift for Brissett.
 
Even 10-7 probably doesn't get us in the playoffs. We don't play any of the teams ahead of us that we can catch unless either Baltimore of Cincy slump bad, and we lost to most of the teams we would need a tie breaker against. It would be very tough.
9-8 is zero chance.
So, can we end the season with 7 wins in a row and miss the playoffs?? That would be a Browns thing to do.

Don't see it but it gives people something to talk about. I think this week is a win even if we just direct snap to Chudd the whole game. I can see at least two more losses on the schedule. The playoffs were a pipe dream, this is a six game pre-season for Watson to get comfortable in the offense and get his football legs back.

that would totally be a Browns thing to do.

just like winning that game yesterday after their season was for all purposes, over.

a win in literally any other game than yesterdays would have meant so much more, especially the AFC games.

Bengals can very easily lose 3 games with their schedule, but we probably need the Steelers to upset the Ravens to setup a viable week 18 scenario cause I don't see the Broncos nor Falcons winning in Baltimore. As you insinuated, wildcard's all but dead. Lost to the entire AFC East + Chargers. Schedule's there for the Jets and Pats to potentially finish 9-8, but Chargers are a tough sell and we need all 3 to fall short of 9 wins.

Doesn't matter as this team's too inconsistent to go on a 7 game run, but I am happy that we at least have something to grasp onto for hopefully at least the next 2 weeks.

What the hell. Here's the odds of the unfathomable.
According to Football Outsiders, who projects the Browns to now in seven games this season, the Browns still have a 2.7 percent chance of sneaking into the playoffs.

This number saw a .6 percent increase after their win against the Bucs. As they get set to take on the worst team in the NFL this week, and with their starting quarterback, the Browns have the opportunity to rattle off back-to-back wins for the first time all season and continue to improve their chances.

The Bengals remaining schedule is arguably the toughest in the league:
vs Chiefs 9-2
vs Browns 4-7
@ Bucs 5-6
@ Patriots 6-5
vs Bills 8-3
vs Ravens 7-4
 
Should be 5-6 you can't lose that Jets game you just can't. It be sucky to end the season 1 game out of the playoffs. Could happen.

The offense was ugly, but honestly I fully expected that. Watson looked very rusty, but that was also to be expected. His missed some throws he will clearly make when the rust and butterflies fade.
 
Both the Ravens and Bengals inexplicably winning pretty much kills our playoff chances.
They were on full life support, but just sayin.
10-7 likely wouldn't even get us in.

make players WANT to come here. that's all we need to be worrying about. let watson cooks so players are licking their chops to get to CLE

The single most important thing for the remainder of the season is for Watson to shake off the rust.
No players will be licking chops if Watson doesn't show significant improvement over yesterday's performance.
Nothing else matters because realistic playoff hopes left over a month ago.
We HAVE to see Watson operating at an NFL level. We didn't see that yesterday and it's highly unlikely we'll see that Sunday.
I think the team realizes that and that the Bengals blow us out of the water, ok. So long as we see improvement in Watson's play.
That is the most important thing for the rest of this season.

I think it's super close, if not ending w us winning.
but yes, week by week, watson has to shake all that rust off. yesterday was pretty much expected, despite my insanity. 2yrs without a snap, he basically doesnt remember how the game feels..

The path there is obviously not known, but despite yesterday 10-7 probably still gets in. Don't think we'll have to worry about that come mid afternoon Sunday though. Ingredients are all there for a savage beating. Bengals are peaking and after blowing them out two times in a row (once at their place) with Burrow never beating us I think we're going to see an especially spirited performance. Barring some excellent game planning and good fortune early putting us in a positive game script I don't know how we can win this game. If we do the door's wide open, but...

these are the games i am SO looking forward to next year. this wknd is likely too early.... but it'll come if not this time, the next

Everything we heard going into the Texan game was that he was hitting all of the throws in practice.
I don't think it was just rust but a combination of rust and nerves.
Bengals game on the road but many Browns fans attend in-state rivalry game every year.

Watched #BrownsCLEBrowns2022SeasonEmoji.png game again. Watson's mechanics were off kilter from first throw. We watch him every day in practice. Never seen him ground balls like that. There were understandable nerves, plenty of rust. He'll be facing hostile environment again this week.

Y'all talking about Watson and I get it but my worry going into this week is our defense. Luckily we played the Texans last week, arguably as bad as a 1-31 team ever but had it been anyone else, I think we would have easily been beat and beat bad.

I dont see it. Passing Cincy was going to be our shot had KC been able to beat them.
If we go 10-7 I give it maybe 20% chance at the playoffs.
Too many teams ahead of us who beat us.

So we're assuming Buffalo, KC, Tennessee, and Miami are in. That leaves 3 spots between 6 teams. In this hypothetical both Baltimore and Cincinnati would lose to us, so assume they're 8-5 with the Jets 7-5 and the Chargers + Pats 6-6. Here are their schedules:

CIN: v CLE (L), @ TB, @ NE, v BUF, v BAL - they'll be < 3 point favorites in each game except maybe the finale. Isn't difficult to see 2 losses in their last 4 and we'd have the tiebreaker.
BAL: @ PIT, @ CLE (L), v ATL, v PIT, @ CIN - they're a dog this week, probably in the finale, and won't be > one possession favorites v either ATL and PIT (if Lamar's back) - again, isn't difficult to see 2 additional losses in that lot and we'd have the tiebreaker.
NYJ: @ BUF, v DET, v JAX, @ SEA, @ MIA - only need 3 wins, but they may not be > 3-5 favorites in their 2 home games and even if they win both they need a tough road win too.
NE: @ AZ, @ LV, v CIN, v MIA, @ BUF - isn't difficult to find 2 losses as long as BUF has something to play for in the finale.
LAC: v MIA, v TEN, @ IND, v LAR, @ DEN - this one may be challenging, but their loss @ LV opened the door. I wouldn't bet on them winning 4 in a row so worst case this is still in doubt going into week 18 at least and this is the chargers we're talking about...2 consecutive losses would make things a whole lot easier though.

I don't know the %'s given all that, but it's a lot > 20%. They don't need to one-up all 5 - just 3 of them. Isn't gonna matter if (when) we lose this week, but the door's very much open if somehow someway we leave Cincy with a dub.
 
By 'essentially' being out of it by the time Watson came off suspension it erased calls to replace him with Brissett who had been playing well. If we had won a few more games, we'd have a big mess.
Most knew he'd struggle and let's face it; we are basically out of the playoff hunt.
The first Bengal game was at home, Nati's offensive line was struggling so Burrow wasn't as sharp, Myles shoulder wasn't as big off an issue as it is now, and Jamar was on IR. Oh, and we hadn't lost 3 starting linebackers at that point. The Bengals weren't running the ball well but now their entire offense is clicking so all they have to do is run the ball on us because we can't stop the run.
Last Sunday we played in an empty hostile stadium, this Sunday I expect a huge hostile turnout.
The only chance we have is if Watson makes a miraculous comeback.
Love to be wrong but I just don't see it happening.

100% agree with all of this.
 
Look at this.
A Browns fan who was at the game in Houston fell head-over-heels leaping three rows down to get the football that was tossed into stands by Browns LBer Tony Fields after he scored his pick-six.
When I saw this, I thought the guy was loco till I saw the number and name on the back of his jersey.
I thought, WOW what are the odds of someone having a #42 Tony Fields jersey at the game where he scores a TD?
Well, Tony knew the guy.

Agree with most of what you wrote, but I'm less sure about this. I get the Bengals in Dec 2022 are quite a bit different than any iteration prior, but that stadium is usually about 60/40 (maybe closer to 70/30) for this game.

Oh yeah...we may be favored in our final 5 games though. I think we're way too inconsistent and undisciplined to actually win each one, but it's sweet justification to grasp onto in order to watch this team for at least one more week. %'s actually increase to 33 with Dolphins, Bills, Steelers, and Cardinals wins. Sorry- tools like this bring out the nerd alert in me.

DC: predictable, uninspiring, and lacks situational awareness
Edge: Garrett speaks for himself, but we needed a healthy + effective Clowney (not since week 2) because the depth wasn't ready - Wright and Thomas may be ready for rotational role now
iDL: sucks out loud - Winfrey may be ready for rotational role now, but both Elliott and Togiai were whiffs
LB: with hindsight, needed a healthy Walker because Phillips ain't it - DT's a bigger problem moving forward
CB: can Newsome stick inside? If yes then this a develop cheap depth position group.
S: I'm open minded to Delpit being less of a problem with a new voice leading the group, but John Johnson is a disaster.

TlDr: due to years of mid round misses talent is a problem, but more than that this group needs leadership. Maybe Walker was part of that answer, but that isn't Ward nor Garrett's personality. Getting the right DC in there is priority #1, but all 3 rooms need a veteran voice for the youth to follow. Here's hoping Emerson, Wright, and Winfrey were the beginning of a correction because (cheap) draft hits are necessary for this iteration of the Browns to sustain.
