DI Jukebox Draft (66-15)- Listen up (2 Viewers)

9.22a - Deftones - Hexagram - 2003

9.22b - Radiohead - The National Anthem - 2000

Simply put, this Deftones song is class A material to me. It's insane, heavy, metal, nu metal, and beautiful. I love these guys. If this is the heights of nu metal, give it to me and then some. One of the greatest metal bands ever. Does Radiohead need an explanation? What the heck was that instrument? An onces mondelet? A theremin? Almost went Beatles and a song about correspondence in a muted way, but I'll pass.
Almost picked a Deftones song for 2000. Kind of wish I did.

Great Radiohead track as well. I love the ending that sounds like a brass band crashing into a wall or something.
Yeah, I was eyeing that album up too, but decided to give the non-metal people a break since Zilla is making the huge mix.

I am making a metal mix on my own using the one a year format, and if any others are interested I can post a link at the end.

I think I'm up. Sorry in meetings and in phone:

Hopefully not taken:

Rolling Stones - Heart of Stone pre 65

The Who - The Kids are Alright 65
quick check shows the Who song with a 66 release and the Stones with 65 so you're good. You can strike one year from 67-15.

I've got to get into the 90's and 2000's here eventually:

Keeping it upbeat, and keeping it black

9.a.: Mya - Fallen - 2003

Good song

9.b.: Janet Jackson - Escapade -1989

The best of her "upbeat" work, IMO
My ex-gf (who was white) looked like Mya. It was sweet.

Keep it upbeat!
Mya is smoking hot.

Janet was the first woman in my life when I started noticing women were hot. Everything about her around the release of the Janet. screamed sex. I loved her long time.
You:Janet::Me:Aaliyah

And Mya is still hot. Good taste here.

I just got home. About to do some HW with my son and Ill keep checking in. But my draft tracking is prob done for the day. Ill update the sheet when I can

I'd like to lend someone some quarters to make one jukebox selection. Could someone do me a solid and spend their 1975 or 1976 pick on:

Stay by Bowie from Station To Station. If you skip to 5.40 in this video you can see a live version of the song with basically the same band as the studio recording except Earl Slick has been replaced by Stacy Heydon (who goes absolutely haywire in the solo). Carlos Alomar struggling to hit the high notes in the backup vocals. Check out the moves - how much coke was Bowie on in that clip? Here's the semi-bootleg live Nassau recording (the sound quality is better than the rehearsal video).

I'm leaning toward one round per day starting on Wednesday. You can make your two picks at any time. Please try to include your pick number in your post.

We're still making good progress and have a ton of great chatter but the mechanics of managing the clock and skips are more trouble than they're worth IMO.

I think two picks a day are plenty for now since it's a journey not a race. Probably won't bump to three picks until after President's Day.

With all the skips and time-outs, it turns into this anyway and creates work for those trying to keep things in line (you, Acer and simey).

FWIW, One Night in Bangkok probably isn't in my top 3 songs off the Chess London Cast album. Not that it's bad, there's just some serious great Abba tunes never sung by Abba on there.

Im going to pick and run when I am up. My wife wasnt thrilled that I was laying around waiting to draft. I told her I would wash the dishes and do an oil change on her car. Can someone PM whoever is up after me as it looks like FIddles will TO

9.29 Chavez - Unreal is here 1996

9.29 Folk Implosion - Pole Position 1997
I never heard of Chavez. Were they a big thing 20 years ago? The video shows them with gold records and playing big halls.

I think the mid-90s are my biggest gap in this era. We were raising babies and not going to shows. At the time, I was only aware of the really popular stuff and bands we liked before children. I've tried to catch up since but that's different than living through it.

Yo Mama picks:

10.08 - Come As You Are, Nirvana (1991)

10.08 - Early, Run the Jewels (2014)

Easily my favorite rap/hip hop album of the last 5-10 years. I had a hard time picking a song from this album, but this is a great one and is safer for work / young FBGs.

"Liquor in the Front, Poker in the Rear"

Put a dime/quarter in the jukebox (depending on how old you are), sqeeze into our spacious 10ftx10ft dance floor, and get your groove on! Or just nod your head and cry into your beer - either way.

1967 - Brown Eyed Girl, Van Morrison

1969 - Space Oddity, David Bowie

2011 - Lonely Boy, The Black Keys

2014 - Early, Run the Jewels

2015 - WTF (Where They From), Missy Elliott ft. Pharrell Williams

10.09a Surfer Blood - Floating Vibes - 2010 - Astro Coast

10.09b El-P - Drones Over BKLYN - 2011 - Cancer 4 Cure

Quick write-up: Many other songs could go in either of these two years, but Drones Over Brooklyn hasn't left my You Tube in months and Surfer Blood is worthy, even if it bumps one of my other favorite bands out of the mix. I put a Consequence of Sound live version of El-P up online, just because it's dope to watch some sick rapper drinking coffee in the morning and blowing up the mic like he does. Plus, purple on both album covers!

eta* Sorry for the mess up. Never knew it was BKLYN instead of Brooklyn. If anything, this draft has taught me how little track names mean these days in the digital era.

I'll handle the formatting and links later, but here.

Round 9

The Wrens, Hopeless (2003)

M83, Midnight City (2011)

Not sure if there are any Wrens fans in this draft, much less ones willing to pick them, but Meadowlands is massive for me, and one of my favorite albums of all time, so here it is. Incredibly cathartic sing-along.

As for M83, I love a bunch of their songs since day one, and much like 2003, I had other choices lined up for 2011, but this seems like the best fit.

I'll make my round 10 picks soon enough.
