Simply put, this Deftones song is class A material to me. It's insane, heavy, metal, nu metal, and beautiful. I love these guys. If this is the heights of nu metal, give it to me and then some. One of the greatest metal bands ever. Does Radiohead need an explanation? What the heck was that instrument? An onces mondelet? A theremin? Almost went Beatles and a song about correspondence in a muted way, but I'll pass.

Almost picked a Deftones song for 2000. Kind of wish I did.

Great Radiohead track as well. I love the ending that sounds like a brass band crashing into a wall or something.

Yeah, I was eyeing that album up too, but decided to give the non-metal people a break since Zilla is making the huge mix.

I am making a metal mix on my own using the one a year format, and if any others are interested I can post a link at the end.

I'd like to lend someone some quarters to make one jukebox selection. Could someone do me a solid and spend their 1975 or 1976 pick on:

Stay by Bowie from Station To Station. If you skip to 5.40 in this video you can see a live version of the song with basically the same band as the studio recording except Earl Slick has been replaced by Stacy Heydon (who goes absolutely haywire in the solo). Carlos Alomar struggling to hit the high notes in the backup vocals. Check out the moves - how much coke was Bowie on in that clip? Here's the semi-bootleg live Nassau recording (the sound quality is better than the rehearsal video).

I'm leaning toward one round per day starting on Wednesday. You can make your two picks at any time. Please try to include your pick number in your post.

We're still making good progress and have a ton of great chatter but the mechanics of managing the clock and skips are more trouble than they're worth IMO.

I think two picks a day are plenty for now since it's a journey not a race. Probably won't bump to three picks until after President's Day.

I never heard of Chavez. Were they a big thing 20 years ago? The video shows them with gold records and playing big halls.

I think the mid-90s are my biggest gap in this era. We were raising babies and not going to shows. At the time, I was only aware of the really popular stuff and bands we liked before children. I've tried to catch up since but that's different than living through it.

Quick write-up: Many other songs could go in either of these two years, but Drones Over Brooklyn hasn't left my You Tube in months and Surfer Blood is worthy, even if it bumps one of my other favorite bands out of the mix. I put a Consequence of Sound live version of El-P up online, just because it's dope to watch some sick rapper drinking coffee in the morning and blowing up the mic like he does. Plus, purple on both album covers!

Not sure if there are any Wrens fans in this draft, much less ones willing to pick them, but Meadowlands is massive for me, and one of my favorite albums of all time, so here it is. Incredibly cathartic sing-along.

As for M83, I love a bunch of their songs since day one, and much like 2003, I had other choices lined up for 2011, but this seems like the best fit.

I'll make my round 10 picks soon enough.
