How long did it take your wife/gf to get pregnant? (1 Viewer)

I'm not asking whether my friend is dumb

About 2 weeks after the menstrual cycle, 24-36 hour period where the egg is running a sperm telethon.

Other subtle things you won't believe are true but typically the woman is irresistible during that day of the month.

Yeah, a friend of mine has a wife who had some barnicles in her uterus, or some such... prevented the fertilized egg from attaching itself to the uterus wall and, hence, no pregnancy. She had to go in for a scraping of some sort to get things cleaned out, then she was able to conceive. Second kid... they went the invetro route.
Wife and I just started trying (literally this week), so I'm curious to see the results of this poll.

Quick question though...is this a real thing? I mean, I know it's not barnicles like in the ocean, but is that the real term for it?

After your wife/gf got off birth control and you actively started "trying." A friend wants to know. He's heard conflicting stories and figures this would make for a big enough sample size.
Do you think your friend will celebrate the child's 1st birthday or any thereafter?

Wife got off the pill, got PG the first month, but miscarried pretty early. Her GYN told her it was best to wait a cycle after getting off the pill before trying. We waited one cycle after the miscarry and had my girl.

She went back on the pill, off the pill waited 1 cycle, did the things books tell you have a boy, and had a boy.

Snip Snip and done. :cigar:

This kind of creeped me out a little.

1st kid, took almost a year. But, honestly, we just stopped contraceptives but weren't exactly 'trying'. Finally, we just employed the 'scatter bomb' technique. 30 days, twice a day, and I got her. 2nd kid, I knocked her up in 1 try. Yep. 1 try. 3rd kid was actually unplanned and on the pill.

Explain "conflicting stories". Or is everybody supposed to get pregnant at the same rate?
I have people insisting it takes several months after female gets off birth control. That it's a guarantee. I believe they may be doing this to urge my friend to start trying sooner, like ASAP.

Other stories, which I surmise to be true, instead indicate it varies from immediately to over a year.
Not all birth control is the same, and not all women are the same. That said, removing a non-hormonal IUD doesn't have a delay like getting off the pill generally does. She could get pregnant almost immediately.

Coincidentally, my wife had her IUD removed two hours ago. :oldunsure:

So, Woz you can say I'm the "friend" if you want.

She contacted her doctor and that's what the doctor said too. I think sources providing us with alternate information had ulterior motives.

He's a pretty rational dude so he'll probably acknowledge it, but certainly won't expect others to get up in arms about it or attend some party where they want to stab themselves. His wife on the other hand...

They'll want to stab his wife?

Fwiw, if you're trying to get pregnant and have a hot tub... don't use the hot tub at all while you're trying. I found that one out the hard way with my ex-.

Woz> Don't do this. Seriously.

This = "this thread" or "procreate" or both?
This entire thread.

Woz, are you sure? I mean you guys are pretty young, right? What's the rush here?
Define "pretty young." I'm thirty and she is about to turn twenty-nine. Marriage is good, I'm making FBG bucks now, and I'd rather play golf, grill out, and go to bed early on the weekends than run a 12 hr. poker session followed by nightclubs and strange until 4 AM. I'm in no major rush but we'd like to have a couple of kids and probably want to do so before my wife hits her mid-thirties (for health reasons + not being old parents). Given that I'm the first point in my life where the idea of having a kid doesn't freak me out, seems like a good time to start (note: IUD won't be removed until January and current plan is to not "be pregnant" until next Spring).

immediately with both kids.

How do some of you guys know it was one shot the first time? Do you only have sex once and then wait for the results?
It just means that their wives or girlfriends got pregnant before even having one period/cycle after getting off birth control.

My wife and I were married for 5 years before we decided to try. I remember it like it was yesterday here some 15 years later. COPS was on the tv and I turned to her and said, "Do you want to have a baby?" She said, "Okay." 2 minutes of heaven later--our first daughter is on the way.

Flash forward 4 years. Oddly enough COPS is on TV again, I utter those same words again and boom, 2nd daughter is on the way.

I am now long since snipped, but every time we hear the COPS theme, we sort of look at each other and smile.

1st: it took about 2 weeks, baby was conceived after steelers victory over jets in 2010 to launch steelers to super bowl

2nd: it took about a month, around 2012 thanksgiving

You have to surmise this?

First child was adopted, ex wife had issues and couldn't get pregnant.

2nd child (just turned 2) was conceived on Christmas day after we split a fifth of vodka. Late pullout, she got the first rope and that did it.

You can work backwards to about the day or so that she must have gotten pregnant.

Wife and I, pre-marriage, came home craphoused after brunch one day. Decided to have one try without ejecting, figuring it probably wouldn't work. We've now got a three year old.
