I saw Bigfoot once. 1951, back in Sequoia National Park. Had a foot on him thirty-seven inches heel to toe.

not really. weatherboy: At 7pm, the National Hurricane Center re-named Hurricane Sandy Post-Tropical Cyclone Sandy. Meteorologically, this means its losing its tropical characteristics..but the impacts will be identical. They have the center at 39.1N 74.4W, about30 miles east-north-east of Cape May and about 20 miles south of Atlantic City. While most precipitation has moved on-shore, the NHC still has the center of circulation offshore and landfall has not yet officially occurred.Maximum sustained winds are a strong 85mph with gusts to 100mph. The storm is moving west north west at about 28mph.Impressive storm surges are ongoing; Kings Point NY reported 12.4' surge height; Battery Park NY reports 7.2'; Sandy Hook is reporting 7.5'. Total water levels will be even higher when high tide occurs this evening. Is the worst over now that Sandy is downgraded?
Somebody is playing with the switch.Power keeps going on and off
Is he in DC or Bristol?Scott Van Pelt @notthefakeSVPThings got real in a hurry. Power gone & trees collapsing like a house of cards all around my house. Terrifying.

LOL
I think the biggest thing will be the reversal of the wind direction along with the softening of the ground. It is prime for some trees to fall down. Lot of reports of downed wires, power losses, and blown transformers as things progress. As far as the rain goes, seems like a break now for south jersey/philly region. At least according to the radar maps. Not sure about the wind.

Wind is going to get worse as the eye approaches. Friends in southern NJ all starting to lose power with ridiculous winds happening, I assume we'll be getting that in the city soon enough. As far as the rain goes, seems like a break now for south jersey/philly region. Lost power at 5:30PM. Generator running for now.Only saving grace for now is little rain so not as concerned about flooding as I had from Irene.Gonna be a long night though checking on the house/sump pumps.Big issue tomorrow is whether roads are going to be passable to re-fill gas tanks. For those affected, stay safe!'Uruk-Hai said:Ok, who hasn't checked in lately? Yeah, the Bucks County scanner is lighting up (poor choice of words) with down wires.Wind is going to get worse as the eye approaches. Lights just flickered a couple times here in Midtown West.
Looking at a 5 story building on 8th Ave around 14th (Chelsea) that lost a wall. Pretty wild - lights on, couches, beds etc.
Yep. When the wind switches to the SW more trees will come down. Just hoping to make it another 12 hours then I think we'll be in the clear down here. Dropping the temp on the thermostat.I think the biggest thing will be the reversal of the wind direction along with the softening of the ground. It is prime for some trees to fall down. They were saying all day that the wind and the storm surge was going to be the real problem in the coastal areas and the moisture more of an issue in the high ground areas. Seems to me that so far anyway, this storm doesn't have the rain Irene did. But the wind is almost as bad now as it was at the height of Irene. It's only going to get worse.Lights flickering, it's only a matter of time now.Wind is going to get worse as the eye approaches. Last I heard was that Con Ed might be shutting down power to lower Manhattan (I was robo-called by Con Ed)... has that changed to definitely? Power still on here at Houston and Ave A. And it's been blowing really hard- I finally figured out that the wind sounds like a snow-plow scraping the street. It's over 12 feet now. Con Ed is preemptively shutting down power in parts of lower Manhattan.Battery storm surge plus tide level now at 10.7 feet. Subway is officially getting into danger. Wow.
HUGE gust as I'm writing this.THank god one of the end results of the fire in our building two years ago was all new windows.Looks shopped
I am beginning to appreciate what Noah had to deal with.My dog will not go to the bathroom indoors. Which is a good thing, but sometimes I wish she would so I could stop listen to her whining about wanting to go out and then darting right back in.The worst part so far for me has been trying to get my dog to take a dump in the rain. I dragged her out and she keeps darting back inside and then she sits in front of the door crying to go outside again.![]()
Cleaned up one accident already from my scared little rat.
For some reason, the loss of power in some place named Edison made me chuckle. My apologies..Lost power here in Edison, NJ. Saw sky lighting up as transformers were blowing. Figure most of central NJ getting slammed right now.
Did you miss the money shot?Just had a hardcore power out/on. Full reset. Don't like this...at all.
Same here, hasn't rained in almost 2 hours but the wind has been steady and picking up in intensity. Seeing blue flashes as well around here with lights flickering, we're getting the candles ready. They were saying all day that the wind and the storm surge was going to be the real problem in the coastal areas and the moisture more of an issue in the high ground areas. They just had a Con Ed spokesman on they're shutting down portions of the grid - around Bowling Green subway station, around Fulton Street Station, and along Avenue C where the water is fairly deep.We have flooding on West 42nd (foot or two deep) and supposedly it's 3 feet deep further down below the Garment District.Last I heard was that Con Ed might be shutting down power to lower Manhattan (I was robo-called by Con Ed)... has that changed to definitely? IIRC, the thing about Irene was that the entire area had gotten non-stop rain for the entire month previous to the ##### hitting, so everything was saturated creating all the flooding. From what I understand, because we haven't had that rain now, the flooding is from the storm surge more than the rain.and something something something 689mb.They were saying all day that the wind and the storm surge was going to be the real problem in the coastal areas and the moisture more of an issue in the high ground areas. GC?My village has about 6,300 homes. 5,750 are without power. The PD has had over 400 reports of downed trees. We are in the midle of Lon island about 10 minutes east of the queens border. Worse than I thought it would be.
