Just saw this a week or so ago, really liked it. I thought Brad Pitt absolutely nailed his part, gruesomely funny throughout.

Pitt's character with that heavy southern drawl just cracked me up throughout the movie. When he was discussing with the German spy what they would do now that the original German speaking crew was dead was one that comes to mind. She asked what dialect he spoke and said Italian.

Lt. Aldo Raine: Well I speak the most Italian, so I'll be your escort. Donowitz speaks the second most so he'll be your Italian cameraman. Omar speaks third most, so he'll be Donny's assistant.

Pfc. Omar Ulmer: But I don't speak Italian.

Lt. Aldo Raine: Like I said, third best. Just keep your ####in' mouth shut. In fact why don't you start practicing, right now

Then he starts speaking at the premiere and he sounds like he came out of the backwoods of Georgia and trys to read an Italian dictionary. I thought it was hilarious.

Some other notables that made me grin:

Yes. Another thing I wasn't too crazy about... lot of small, yellow subtitles.

OK good. Some of those older WWII movies have the Germans speak English which is a major NO-NO as far as I'm concerned.

Oh there was all kinds of stuff going on. German, English, French, Eyetalian.

Just saw it yesterday. I never read or listen to anything about movies I know I'll eventually get to, so I had no idea what to expect.

I downloaded it as a torrent and was watching on my computer. Turns out I downloaded a foreign version (greek, maybe?) The subtitles were all in a language I didn't recognize. I didn't realize my mistake and figured it was Quentin Tarantino showing us all how smart he is, forcing us to watch a movie where they speak mostly French and German and giving us non-English subtitles. So I watched the whole thing without understanding most of the dialogue or any of the subtitles.

Funny thing is I still really enjoyed it. The acting was so good though that I'm not sure I missed anything in the movie, except for Tarantino's regular clever-but-tedious dialogue.

Pitt was good, but the "Jew hunter" and the theatre owner were both phenomenal

I loved the movie, but i also didn't find Pitt's character to be funny. I'd probably rank him as the 2nd worst character behind the office guy. Most other performances i thought were very good.

Watched it this weekend. Liked the start, but it took a way different direction then I thought it would. In the end, waste of my time.

While I still agree that Tarantino can write dialogue as well as anybody, to me this just felt like Kill Bill set in WW2. We have the Quentin staples of witty dialogue, over the top violence that bordered on cheesy, 'chapters' for the different acts of the movies, etc. Don't know what I was expecting but this movie didn't do much for me (having Eli Roth in the movie didn't help the cause).

While I respect Tarantino for seemingly saying "#### you- I am going to do movies that I want to do and I think are fun", I just think his movies stopped being fresh and interesting a bit ago. Seems to me like other directors that don't get anywhere the hype he does have evolved as directors or have branched out to push themselves with different material. As much as I liked his first few movies, he's stopped being a "must-see" director for me.

First of all the title and the trailers were misleading. I guess I didn't pay attention enough because I thought the movie was about a crack squad of commandos killing Nazis...which it isn't.

From what I saw and what I read I expected this to be a good movie.

So, did you read about the movie or not? If you read anything you should have known that this wasn't really about killing Nazis.I thought the "bait and switch" some people are complaining about was pretty similar to Pulp Fiction. From the previews it looked like a movie about two hitmen. But in the actual movie you go long stretches without seeing either of them.

And this really isn't a WWII movie. It's a QT movie that just happens to be set in something he imagines what WWII was sort of like.

This is key. I think I understood this going in, which helped. Some people went in expecting a Brad Pitt movie or a WWII movie. It's a Tarantino movie set in WWII with Pitt as one of his actors. The "do they speak German?" guy above is not going to like this.

He plagiarized on his own ideas....you can't just remake Kill Bill with Nazis instead of Carradine. QT tries too hard for shock value. I imagine him sitting somewhere on a message board playing up to Swires and Truck, poorly.

Yeah, I understand the trailer part of it. Just the "from what I read" part that was confusing.All I knew going in was what I saw in the commercials and some quote from Tarantino about staying true to his characters as opposed to staying true to history, but I wasn't disappointed at all. Maybe just knowing that it was Tarantino was enough preparation.

i really liked it. a few moments seemed a little out of whack, but overall a big

Waltz was fantastic

i purposely didn't read this thread beforehand, and i'm glad. even though the trailer kind of misrepresents what the movie really is, i found the amount of violence just about right. sure a couple of ambush scenes with the basterds blowing the #### out of everyone would have been cool, but i don't think it would have added that much to the movie.

the tavern scene reminded me a lot of a similar scene in Where Eagles Dare

SHould be nominated for Movie of the Year. I think once again that some people just don't get what QT is trying to do. He makes movies and this was a movie. Of course Aldo Rain and the basterds did not really kill Hitler but look at what QT does in this film.

He makes you question your own morality. Did you at any point when the Nazi was going to get his brains bashed in, did you feel an ounce of compassion or want to turn your head for a brief moment so you didn't have ot watch it? They're Nazis, we should be celebrating them getting their tails kicked but at the same time you kinda get sickened just a tad.

Then the French actress is exposed as sort of walking the fence but in the end she gets whats coming to her. The show stopper or scene stealer is of course Christopher Walz who plays Col. Hans Lander and he will get nominated for best actor/supporting actor, doubt he wins but he deserves the nod.

The opening scene in the French dairy farmer's house, priceless dialogue back and forth, great scene. The movie is wildly entertaining and wife and I thoroughly loved this, definitely top5 for the 2009 year. I've seen a lot of films that are supposed to get nominated, IB is right up there at the top of the list.

Cinematography, Costume, Lighting, Script, Director, Actor/Supporting Actor...should easily get nominated for 5-7 Oscars. Loved it, and anyone that didn't like it, I understand where your POV is but I think true QT fans must have loved this and QT just keeps getting better at making movies.

I agree this is one of the better films this year.

I love that QT brings us something we haven't seen before, 90% of Hollywood is just regurgitating crap for the masses, QT is the exception to the rule.

This scene was about 3 times as long as it needed to be. I got it. QT beat it to death...as usual.
