I knew you were going to take them as your female blues pick. Wasn't sure which song though.
This post made me think we were making 3 picks on Saturday. Now that I've had coffee I realize...yeah.So when does the free weekend 3 picks clock start? I'm gonna need something to pass the time while at work tomorrow...
OK, so we have all day to make 3.04.Everybody can post a round 3 pick before midnight Saturday. I'm going to make it Pacific because I can.
Johnny, Joey, Dee Dee and D. Boon are rolling in their gravesI've got about 20 minutes of music and we're only 3 songs into this thing.....sorry Eephus....
I saw this video from Jeff Porcaro (drummer) a few years ago where he breaks down the drum beats in this song. This might seem relatively easy for experienced drummers, but coming from a non-musician, this looks/sounds pretty difficult to pull off.No time to prep for this draft (not that it would make a difference) so something vanilla...
1.21 -- 'Roseanna' by Toto, Title with only a person's name.
Gotta represent the 'nati.I knew you were going to take them as your female blues pick. Wasn't sure which song though.
Hi Brad
Thought we were doing songs that made the movie better, not movies that made the song better.Hi Brad
Is there an 80 minute time limit on these mixes?A ten minute track in the screaming category. I love this draft.
This was the song I was talking about when I took my 3-movementer! It was on my short list, since basically screaming is the chorus.. good pick.My first two picks were very mellow, so picking it up a notch in the "screaming" category.
3.09 Deep Purple - "Child In Time"
From songfacts.com:
Running 10 minutes and 15 seconds, this is a protest song to the United States' war in Vietnam. The lyrics were written by lead singer Ian Gillan.
This features a keyboard/guitar solo by Jon Lord and Ritchie Blackmore respectively.
This album was released by the Mark II version of the group which is Ian Gillan (vocals), Ritchie Blackmore (guitar), Roger Glover (Bass), Jon Lord (keyboard), and Ian Paice(drums). This song was played during the Deep Purple Mark II reunion tour "Come Hell or Highwater" in 1993. Ritchie Blackmore quit the tour after the European portion - he also ended the original Mark II by quitting because of Ian Gillan's "lack of work ethic." (thanks, Neil - Corner Brook, Canada, for all above)
Ian Gillan said in an interview in 2002: "There are two sides to that song - the musical side and the lyrical side. On the musical side, there used to be this song 'Bombay Calling' by a band called It's A Beautiful Day. It was fresh and original, when Jon was one day playing it on his keyboard. It sounded good, and we thought we'd play around with it, change it a bit and do something new keeping that as a base. But then, I had never heard the original 'Bombay Calling'. So we created this song using the Cold War as the theme, and wrote the lines 'Sweet child in time, you'll see the line.' That's how the lyrical side came in. Then, Jon had the keyboard parts ready and Ritchie had the guitar parts ready. The song basically reflected the mood of the moment, and that's why it became so popular." (courtesy: Deep Purple Appreciation Society)
Lars Ulrich of Metallica cites this as one of his favorite songs of all time. He says that when he was 9 years old, his father took him to a Deep Purple show, and it changed his life. "This is their most iconic moment," he toldRolling Stone regarding the song. "I've heard it 92,000 times, and it never sounds anything less than great."
That song makes that scene! Oh and the #######. The song and the #######. OK mostly the #######.Thought we were doing songs that made the movie better, not movies that made the song better.Hi Brad
Thanks for not doing that. Excellent choice. This category makes me happy because of the pleasant surprises.3AM Spiritual – Smith Westerns (Beatlesmania!)
Seems kind of Beatle-y right? To be honest, I probably am the guy who would normally just grab an Oasis tune. But I figure I’d try something I was less familiar with.

Nope. They can be as long or short as you please. Is there an 80 minute time limit on these mixes?A ten minute track in the screaming category. I love this draft.
I dig this.3.11 Ritual Union - Little Dragon (Scandinavian)
Ithis band. It helps to have great headphones or a subwoofer to really appreciate their stuff. Yukimi has a phenomenal voice, and I think their drummer is extremely creative.
Me too. Love this draft.I dig this.3.11 Ritual Union - Little Dragon (Scandinavian)

Does my modern blues chick have to sing a blues song or is it good enough that she's a blues woman?Nice!
I have, even had that very song lined up. Sniped. The way she says ritual... goosebumpy.Check out their other stuff. They go off the deep end sometimes but they have some really good tracks.Me too. Love this draft.I dig this.3.11 Ritual Union - Little Dragon (Scandinavian)

The song needs to have some blues in it. It doesn't have to be pure blues.Does my modern blues chick have to sing a blues song or is it good enough that she's a blues woman?Nice!
eta: Joanne... wow.
cant wait for the acoustic scream pickMy theme for this draft is pretty simple: I would like all my picks to be acoustic.
This may be a difficult challenge...

Hmm, love the category for the date requirement more than the gender thing, but it may end up a mulligan. Relatively current female led blues has been heavy in my rotation lately too.The song needs to have some blues in it. Yeah, I haven't quite figured that out yet. I will, though.KarmaPolice said:cant wait for the acoustic scream picktimschochet said:My theme for this draft is pretty simple: I would like all my picks to be acoustic.

The Frames were my favorite band of the oughts - saw them more than 20 times.I knew Glen Hansard would be part of my draft I just wasnt sure which song for which category. I finally decided acoustic, which I guess is kind of like shooting fish in a barrel. I couldnt decide what song, or which of the zillion youtube clips, but decided to go with the clip from the first time I heard Hansard and fell in awe with his raw emotions.
Saw them around '78 with BOC Nazareth. Fantastic show & this one brought down the house.ETA: middle age memory sucksEephus said:The Frames were my favorite band of the oughts - saw them more than 20 times.

It always gives me chills (not good ones) knowing that the guy who wrote and performed the incredible keyboard part at the end of this song is living today in an insane asylum in northern California after chopping off his mother's head. Rumor has it that late at night he sits down at the piano sometimes and plays this tune ever so softly...Person's Name

I couldn't let this go any longer. It is one of my favorites of all time. Music tastes are personal but people who don't think this song is great can blow me.
Didn't know that. Looked him up and saw that he was denied parole last year. Guy still is off the deep end.It always gives me chills (not good ones) knowing that the guy who wrote and performed the incredible keyboard part at the end of this song is living today in an insane asylum in northern California after chopping off his mother's head.
